visited here whilst on holiday in the area,we started from kidderminster which was alovely big station.Travelled to the end of the line at Bridgenorth then on the return journey alightrd at Highley to view the engine shed.Big collection of steam engines carriages and railway paraphernalia .We also had a snack in the cafe which had a outside balcony with views oif the track.Also at this station there was a meet of a local morris minor club with lots of cars on display.It was a lovely day out

Great railway - 5 stars (depending how much you like railways), great idea with the free return trip!
Unfortunately there’s a lot of rubbish on trains with no bins…. Toilets are DISGUSTING! Not just a day of excrement but years… clearly no bleach has been seen for many years as the water stains are abundantly evident - this is really really poor and frankly totally unacceptable.
Good range of food and drinks available across the railway. museum/visitors centre is great (and free) though cafe staff don’t know much and are fairly rude.

Visited the Spring Diesel Gala on the Friday and arrived early to ensure parking space. Very reasonable parking fee at £4 for the day. Had an enjoyable day exploring the railway and travelling on the trains. What a wonderful route the line takes and such well-preseved stations en route. Great museum too. Took the opportunity to have a carriage and diesel works tour which was excellent value and very informative and worthwhile. Will return from Cornwall another day for sure.

Having not been to the railway for many years, it was the free return ticket which tempted us to go which is an excellent idea. The visit was well worth the long trip apart from the catering, this was poor. We were on the first train out of Bridgnorth and were going to buy sandwiches etc to eat on the train however the choice was poor, plain ham, plain cheese, plain egg mayo and hardly any left even at that time.
We decided to wait until we reached Kidderminster but that was even worse even though we were on the first train to arrive. We managed to grab one sandwich and a bowl of chips and bought a jacket potato which was small and came with limp salad. The prices were quite expensive too. The only decent thing was the tea.
I know the railway is run by volunteers but they need to take a leaf out of the North Yorkshire moors railway whose catering is excellent. Next time we go to use our free return ticket we"ll take our own food.
We decided to wait until we reached Kidderminster but that was even worse even though we were on the first train to arrive. A truly wonderful experience. All the volunteers work so hard and look so authentic. We still have a free ticket so can enjoy it all over again. Fantastic offer, thank you.

I had the gift of a steam train Day out for a retirement present,today 11/5/2023 we weifrom Kidderminster to Bridgenorth after paying £4 to park the car all day we boarded the train at 10.15am it left on time we got to Bridgenorth on time rained most of the way but the sun came out.eslked into the town and stopped at The Shakespeare in. For a meal and a drink which was delicious.sfter a walk round the town we made our way back to the station to catch the 4.05pm train back to Kidderminster arrived at 5.25pm.a really super day on a lovely train manned by great staff who were very informative.tbsnk you all at The Severn Valley Steam Railway a day thoughrouly enjoyed.

We went here as a family group of 5, and parked at Kidderminster which was £4 for the day in the svr car park. The line has some lovely views and we even saw some rhino and zebras from the near by safari park. There are some great stops to get off and explore. My partner who is a steam train fan would have liked more steam trains running and less diesel but we all enjoyed the day and will try and return later in the year especially as we were given a free return voucher.

Well done - we all (3 generations) enjoyed the train ride and feeling like we'd gone back in time. Staff were helpful too.

I've visited the SVR a few times previously on day trips but this time decided to do the whole 3 days of the Spring Steam Gala.
Although the weather was a washout on the Friday, it certainly didn't dampen spirits and I had a fantastic time over the three days.
The timetable was very intensive and on Friday and Saturday nights ran late into the night which was a great experience. It also allowed for some great photo opportunities and have such an intensive timetable allowed for some flexibility.
I also 'made use' of the two fantastic pubs at Bridgnorth and Kidderminster who served some fantastic local ales and the cafe at the Engine House at Highley also served some tasty food, albeit on the expensive side (the pies and sausage rolls were top notch).
Overall, I had a fantastic time and the SVR is certainly one of my favourite heritage lines.
Just to add, upon reading a couple of other reviews, if parking (certainly at Bridgnorth) you have to validate your parking. you can't just pay and walk away.

Hi, there is at Bewdley, you'll need to drive up the incline towards the main car park and then double back so you park directly outside the Booking Office. I believe it's first come first served but it may be worth checking with the SVR.
I don't think Arley or Hampton Loade have facilities, but Highley may have by the engine shed.

How much is the 1940s experience? Planning in advance and the website isn’t taking booking yet and so doesn’t say the costs. There will be 3 adults. Thanks

I think Freedom of the Line tickets are about £25 for an adult, so that may help give an approximate idea. The Booking Office may have prices even if they're not taking bookings yet, the telephone number is 01562 757900. We've done it for a few years now and it is a really enjoyable event with a great atmosphere.
