Lovely day out on the canal. It was very interesting to do the locks and everyone enjoyed the trip! Good learning experience for the kids!
Owner was helpful and friendly, and the steering was easier than it looked.

Had a wonderful 4 days on the canal with 'Western Star'. They were great help with us picking the boat up (first time overnight on one), made sure we were comfortable with it all, were really clear about water / heating / gas / etc and helped us through the first lock. They were also fab when we returned as we came back in the middle of very high winds and anyone who goes on canal boats knows how hard they are to steer in wind - especially reversing!
Friendly and down to earth, would definitely go again.

Booking was very simple online and the company then got in touch to finalise it all and make sure it was all right. Very nice and fun guy on the phone called Mark Pilgrim. He had the same excited energy as me booking the holiday which was really nice. Upon arrival we were given plenty of advice from Terry ( The main man) and he was happy to answer any questions we threw at him. He also drew us a map of the route we hoped to take and gave us all the places of interest for the family ( 3 kids from 9 to 17) to visit. So big thank you to Terry. Then it was the tour of the boat by Matt and all the health and safety aspects that go with being on a canal boat. So even if your a complete novice, your made to feel at ease. The boat itself ( Western star ) performed flawlessly thought our 5 days aboard and was easy to use. It is getting old now so don't expect the newest mod cons, but the price was so good it balances out your expectations. It was very clean for us and in all honesty I can't fault anything. Mrs Bouquet might find a fault but if your not that kind of person you would surely be happy. You can also leave 2 cars on site for the duration of the holiday at no extra cost which is very handy. As a family we all have said we would love to go back ASAP and try another route, knowing we're in safe hands.

Starline set us up on a brilliant trip for three friends taking their first steps in gliding along a canal. Dark Star was a great boat, well equipped and easy to operate. The booking was straightforward, and the check-in easy. The training given on the day on maintainence, steering and operating locks was very professional. Heading north from Stourport we had 3 nights on the wonderful Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal which blended small amounts of industrial heritage scenery with hours of easy cruising through beautiful countryside. We found a superb friendly community on the water, on the towpath and in the friendly and well positioned pubs and restaurants in the pleasant villages along the way. Yet another superb amenity in the north of Worcestershire, Severn Valley and Wyre Forrest area. I'm already planning for next year!

Very long-winded briefing in a very small hot office. Then another briefing on the boat which for most of it was the same as what we had in the office.
The boat it's self was very dirty, cobwebs and grime everywhere. Floor was disgusting and every cupboard had a terrible smell. Pots and pans needed a good wash don't think they had seen water for a long time! Curtains hanging off and just generally scruffy. We had to clean it before we unpacked.
I wouldn't book there again as I go on holiday for fun not to clean!

Not many narrowboat companies do hires in February. We found Starline online and booked one of their 4 berth boats for a 4 night stay for the 2 of us and our dog. We've been on lots of narrowboat holidays before and so have something to compare our experience to.
The staff are almost all really friendly and helpful (we had one phone conversation with a woman who seemed like she couldn't care less but this was definitely the exception).
Staff in the office were knowledgeable and helpful, and once we got on the boat there was lots of time to familiarise ourselves with how everything worked. Again the staff member who talked us through how to drive and maintain the boat whilst we were away was helpful and patient. He took us through the first lock and ensured we felt ready to go it alone before leaving us to it.
The boat itself was pretty typical for a traditional layout narrowboat, with a small double bed, bathroom with shower, small galley kitchen with full size cooker, lounge area with small TV, plus good central heating and outside seating to the front of the boat.
Everything worked as it should, the doors were tricky to close and I think maybe they had swelled in all the rain we have had recently and perhaps need a little attention, but they worked well enough for us. The staff had made it very clear before we left that if we had any problems whilst away we could phone them anytime but we didn't feel this was necessary.
We cruised from Stouport as far as Stourton (a tiny distant by road but if you've been on a narrowboat holiday you will know that time and distance means something completely different on the canal). There were lots of places to stop and lots of pubs to visit along the way. Kinver is lovely and we spent a day wandering around there.
After our trip Starline very quickly returned our full security deposit (minus the cost of the diesel we used).
All in all a great holiday and we would be very happy to book with Starline again.

Superb first experience of narrow boating on the staffordshire and Worcester canal.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Beautiful time of year to try.
Not really affected by the two storms encountered.
The narrow boat was very basic, but served our requirements. Only a couple of issues. Firstly one of the hinge pins on the rear doors fell out. (Easily rectified myself on board).
Doors at the back we're also swollen and hard to close. Causing strong draught at night in the sleeping area.
Pretty liveable, just annoying.
Overall a fantastic few days.
Very friendly and helpful staff.

Two of us hired Bright Star for 7 nights over the Christmas period. Despite sometimes torrential rain, most days saw me grinning like an idiot at the helm. We really enjoyed our holiday, especially since Bright Star was pretty much the only boat moving. The fact that I have a disability was no problem for the team at Starline, and they ensured we could have a safe, efficient and fun time on the cut. I had been worried about a set of locks immediately after leaving the berth at Starline HQ, but we were taken through them by Gary from Starline, and then given good advice for the rest of the trip.
Unfortunately the heating failed so we had a very cold night, and we had no mobile phone signal so we couldn't report it where we'd moored up. We couldn't move to a better place because it was too dark to navigate. The next morning we chugged to a place where there was a signal, and Gary came out within an hour and fixed it. Some people might at this stage give Starline a very poor rating, but they are very friendly and try their hardest to ensure you have a great time. Hiring over Christmas is always going to mean that there are a couple of days when the office is shut, but they responded very well to the heating failure.
Bright Star is a well-used boat, but in good condition and spotlessly clean. The bedding was very warm and comfortable, and everything we needed to survive for 7 nights in the middle of winter was on board. Just to make sure, we brought everything but the kitchen sink, but we didn't need most of it. Advice to other hirers: you don't need 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of waterproof trousers and 2 waterproof coats! Everything dried out overnight.

Terrible & unprofessional company, with no morals. Goes back on word, would not trust and would not buy or use this company. The customer service is nil, do not return phone calls or emails.

Wonderful holiday on a lovely narrow boat. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I'd definitely recommend them.

Up to 8 is £155
up to 12 is £170
There is also a £50 security deposit that is refunded as long as the boat is returned in the same condition as it went out and with a complete inventory.
Unfortunately we do not take bookings for day hire more than 5 days in advance during the summer season subject to availability

Hi can you advise best route as we are holidaying on one of your boats quite soon , we like nice scenery and country pubs don’t mind a few locks but not too many

We went down the River Severn to Worcester then joined the canal system and did the Droitwich Ring. An easy trip that took us 3 days. Lotsof god pubs on th route.
