‪A step back in time‬

‪Visited today with our two grandchildren ages 6 & 8. The lady on the desk was very friendly and helpful in explaining how to get the most from our visit. The children (and adults!) were fascinated by every room and loved getting 'hands on' with items. An amazing building hiding behind an unassuming frontage. Also spent some time in the adjoining Stockport Story museum which is a maze of of interesting artefacts. Both well worth seeing.‬

‪Amazing Stockport merchant's house‬

‪The house was really brilliant and we stayed much longer than expected. We took the audio tour and learnt about the history as we took in all the rooms set out according to various episodes in the life of the building. Being able to touch items made the experience more interesting. Though in the middle of town, we left the 21st century and jumped back a few hundred years!‬

‪A Hidden Gem‬

‪A most interesting place. Very friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable staff. Freedom to move around and enjoy the experience by ourselves without the sense of intruding which one sometimes gets in more formal settings. Very highly recommended‬

‪Lovely house and helpful staff‬

‪I went to Staircase House with my partner and our friend, who is a wheelchair user. The lady at the desk said that the house was accessible, but there would be occasions when my friend wouldn’t be able to follow the route, but could turn around and go through different doors to see everything. She was super helpful and patient with my friend’s wheelchair, moving slippery mats and showing us the best way to go so that she would be able to see everything. She even said that if my friend was unable to see the house properly, or get into the rooms with her wheelchair, she would refund the ticket price. My friend was able to see everything and enjoy the whole experience.

I enjoyed looking around the house and seeing all of the old rooms and history attached to the house. Would definitely recommend.‬

‪Surprising gem!‬

‪This was a fantastic find! Totally unexpected gem in the middle of town. From the road you cannot tell quite how interesting this building is.
The 17th Century rooms have been furnished appropriately, including some amazing 'new' furniture in authentic style. Other rooms are dressed to show more modern eras and are just as interesting.
The ladies on the desk could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Many thanks.‬

‪Historic day trip‬

‪Having lived in Stockport all my life, felt it was time now retired to visited this historic house and was more than delighted with whole experience from the cellars up several floors with room setting from different eras makes for surprising scenes. There’s also a second tour of Stockport history with 1950s room setting and all about Strawberry recording studio and the groups who started there such as 10CC.‬

‪Amazing day out!‬

‪We had been looking forward to visiting Staircase House for a while, and my goodness it exceeded expectations a lot! Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, couldn’t thank them enough! The house is fantastic and interactive. Beautifully restored brick work, artefacts and each room is so well displayed and put together. Lots of information and very educational too. I won’t give too much away as it is a must see!‬
