‪This woodland garden is very special - it is not part of the National Trust as is Antony House - it is a separate identity and it’s 60 acres include a fantastic collection of Camellias, Magnolias, Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Hydrangeas all looked after by the head gardener, Richard Squires. If you want to spend a tranquil few hours in one of the loveliest parts of south east Cornwall, then I cannot recommend a better place to visit. The walk around this little piece of paradise takes you through wild meadows, under giant oaks and plane trees, along gladed paths that are edged with wild garlic, bluebells, campion in spring until you finally come upon the River Lyhner, a haven for wild life. We saw oyster catchers, egrets sitting in overhanging in branches and a grey heron standing quietly on the edge of the mudflats, waiting to catch a passing fish.
If you want to walk your dog on a lead (not allowed in the Garden), across the road from the excellent tea room you can follow a path through a Woodland Walk all the way along the river. Heavenly.‬

‪Antony Woodland Garden has two excellent walks. One more formal with various camellia and azalea bushes (which are stunning in the Spring). The walk has modern sculptures one of a green man was almost missed so cleverly was it placed. The walk takes you to the shore of the river Lynher. The second walk is through natural woodland where a ruin of a dovecote can be seen which dates from Tudor times. The walks are circular and we finished by having tea and cakes at the tea room by the entrance to the gardens. On a hot day the shade of the trees was very welcome.‬

‪We had the worst experience of visiting this place. Our initial aim was to have a nice walk in the garden with the dog and child and having a lunch in the Tea Room on Saturday. We called at the tearoom and mentioned that we are the National Trust members and we drove all the way to visit them. First girl said that "it is absolutely fine" and we can go but then she shouted out for her colleague to double check, her colleague - second girl said that they are "not a part of the National trust anymore" but the "warden is not in today so you could come in". We come in to the park and walked 30 metres when we were summoned back by a man who is apparently head gardener. He was very rude and questioned us how we got in, did we pay and basically told us off for having a dog with us "as dogs are not allowed here". We were made to feel like we were trespassing while we were allowed in by the staff in the tea room.

The man mentioned that they have never been a part of the National trust (this was the third version about the place connection to the Trust) and we were escorted out if the gardens with dog and 4 year old.

It is extremely confusing to understand what is a part of National Trust and what is not and instead of being politely explained we were treated poorly. The customer service of this place is extremely low with absolutely unprofessional staff of the tea rooms. Please be aware that they only want payments by cash which is also inconvenient and weird, also not mentioned anywhere. The sign at the tea rooms said that they are dog friendly so it is confusing that the gardens are not dog friendly.

Turns out Antony House itself is a part of the National trust, however the Antony Woodland Garden and the Woodland Walks which are part of ANTONY estate are not included. No information is available to make this information clear to the customers.‬

We are very sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. Antony Woodland Gardens should only be a pleasure for all those that happen upon it. Unfortunately it seems that the Head Warden was away from his post at the exact moment you arrived. There is a small charge to make (£8 for yourself and 2 children under 16 are free). Dogs are not permitted in the garden, but are in the woodland walk (the other side of the main driveway). There are signs up to explain on the main noticeboard which also state that we are not part of the National Trust. I apologise if your attention was not drawn to these on arrival. You should have had the choice to pay by card or cash. All members of staff have been addressed about the issues and we have installed procedures to make sure this never happens again. Please could you send your email address to lucy@antonyestate.com so that I can follow the matter up privately?

‪We took our dog but could only do the woodland walk as dogs are not permitted anywhere else except the cafe at the end of walk.
When in the cafe I saw my dog was covered in creatures after the walk which I knew were ticks. We removed what we could at the time & over the next week removed another 8 as they became visable. Please be aware of this & check your dogs after.‬

‪Poor customer service and neglected garden. When we arrived, we had to pay at a kiosk manned by two teenagers lacking in basic customer service skills. They told us that payment was by cash only and proceeded to charge for my daughter, when in fact children under 16 are free. The garden is in a beautiful location and is very peaceful but is sadly neglected and the signage (what little there is) is in poor condition. We weren’t given any information or maps for the garden on entry. The garden closes at 5pm so I moved my car out of the car park at 4.45 to ensure that we weren’t locked in (it takes a few minutes to walk from the garden entrance to the car park). At 4.45 the car park was being manned by an overly vigilant warden who told me that the garden closed at 5pm (which I knew) and challenged why I was moving my car if I planned to leave at 5. I then had to explain how my elderly mother is a slow walker therefore it might take her several minutes to walk from the garden to the car park. The whole visit was thoroughly spoilt by the poor customer service and by the wardens’ evident desire to get visitors out on the dot of 5pm. We won’t go back. One of the other wardens did apologise for the poor customer service from the teenage girls, which was appreciated but it didn’t make up for the poor experience overall.‬

‪A lovely afternoon walk, with lovely views over the river and tamar bridges in the distance. You could spend a good 3 hours if you enjoy walking. Added bonus free to visit due to Covid, although a sign saying some is closed at the end of the month. Good place to visit for half term week. Cafe looks amazing although we didn't have time to visit today. Lots of places to picnic.‬

‪Stopped off for a walk after lunch at Wilcove Inn. Beautiful grounds running down to the river with excellent views of Antony House which is run by the National Trust. Well signed walks with seating to enjoy the peace and quiet. Had an interesting chat with a gentleman who was cutting back the ivy. Turns out he was Sir Richard Carew Pole the 13th Baronet....amazing!‬

‪Bit disappointed really as I feel the place has so much more to offer! The kitchen garden in particular should be open to the public‬

Dear Len. Thank you so much for your comments, however Antony Woodland Garden is a separate entity from the National Trust's Antony House to which your feedback relates. We do hope you will return to enjoy a walk in the Woodland Garden and perhaps tea and cake at Broomhill Cottage. :)
