Site 34. Electric only. This site is level, shaded and very spacious. For those tent camping be advised that the pad is rough gravel. With that being said, a tarp under the tent took care of that. The playground is one spot down. If your looking for a quite spot, this is not it.
The bathrooms are close, clean and have a dishwashing station. The water pressure is amazing. However, the one thing I found funny is every time someone flushed the toilets the shower pressure would fluctuate. There are 2 private shower stalls, each with a bench and 3 pegs to hang things. Unfortunately, there is not a curtain to divide the changing area and shower, this allows water to soak the floor and bench.
During our stay we did not have issues with mesquites. Despite that plus, the ticks are out of control. We would find ticks everywhere. Just sitting around the fire, walking around the site became an all out tick check. Can’t be to upset with this, it is camping in nature.
The campground is near all the local attractions; waterfalls, restaurants, Laurel Caverns, Fallingwater house, and many other site seeing places. Have dinner early, because local restaurants do close at 7pm and most are closed on Wednesdays.
Overall, nice campground and area for a weeks stay.

Great place for a Scout group to stay. Our site max was 40 people. The grill was large and new. We received 6 parking passes for our site. Other cars went to the overflow lot. Water is available, but you will have to carry it up a hill or drive down to fill jugs. Plenty of hot water in the showers. Shower house/bathrooms were clean. Lots of trees for shade and plenty of wood to gather for fires. Site had 6 picnic tables.

This park is absolutely amazing. There are beautiful scenery at every turn. There are plenty of hiking trails. Be sure to grab a trail map, but all of the trails are very well marked. Every trail we took had amazing waterfalls at least once along the trail. Take time to walk the Great Allegany Passage and the little side trails that lead down to the river. It was all just breathtaking.

My husband and I passed through on a road trip and HAD to pull over when we saw this park. The falls were picturesque, even in the rather dead March weather. I would love to come back when the trees are in bloom, I'm sure it is especially beautiful in autumn. It was also a nice place to get out and stretch our legs to break up our trip. The park was clean and felt safe. I hope to come back again in the future to experience even more!

This is the perfect place to see some spectacular fall color! The trees were magnificent and they are very large in this park. I found a leaf falling that exceeded 11 inches in length near the stone lookout. A beautiful Norther Red Oak stood nearby. I also saw a very large snake that appeared to be a timber rattler sunning itself on a rock lit in sunlight, and thankfully a kind older photographer saw it move and warned me. As I looked I saw it head off and away. Deer were plentiful here and the traffic was very light on Thursday afternoon. The road isn't long for a drive through and there are so many well found trailheads and parking areas. The visitor's center is lovely and the staff are very helpful. We enjoyed seeing the falls and the plantings done nearby for pollinators. Despite the fall temps, our day was sunny and we enjoyed a picnic there.

Another gem to visit in the Laurel Highlands.. There's a large park to walk around and some overlooks. Plenty of benches to relax. Dogs are welcome.

Beautiful state park with a number of great views of the rapids. The large parking area gives you access to numerous photo opportunities of the rapids and falls in this attractive area. Don’t forget the small visitors center with clean bathrooms and information. The small town of Ohiopyle borders the state park with restaurants and a few shops.

Kentuck Campground was very disappointing to us. This is the 3rd time we've been to Ohiopyle in the last 7 years and the campground is in disrepair and needs some much needed attention:
-Check in - this is the only state park in PA that i'm aware of that will not let you in until 3 pm (check out time). Fully understandable if there is still someone on the site until that time, but there was no one on our site when we arrived at 1 pm and they still made us wait (after having traveled over 4 hours, food in our refrigerator melting away) - the campground host even vouched for us to the Ranger - also the Ranger we spoke with was rude. We've stayed at close to 20 other PA state parks and never had this happen - usually we aren't even checked in by the park office - they just put our tag on the site. It really felt like a power play at the office, we were told that this is an old policy that they refuse to change -
-Bathrooms are disgraceful - cleanliness and age of the restrooms are a major issue - dish cleaning sinks are inside the bathroom right next to the urinal. This is a health hazard. One loop had their bathrooms totally closed all week. They need to knock all the bathrooms down and start over. Most state parks we've been to had at least acceptable bathrooms. Just having stayed at Cowans Gap (beautiful), Rickets Glen (old but maintained), and Locust Lake (bad, but not this bad).
-RV sites are very close to each other, and look like they haven't been maintained, very little stone down on sites, trees overgrown, muddy uneven sites....
The town of Ohiopyle is beautiful, and a great place to raft, bike, eat, hike, walk around. If i was reviewing Ohiopyle the town, i'd give it 5 starts.
It's a shame Kentuck Campground isn't better (and it easily could be).
If you don't care about the bathrooms and are ok with old, unkempt sites, then these items will not bother you. But i think OSP can do better. Unfortunately, We will probably not return.....

First it rained so our site was all muddy because there was hardly any stone left on our site. Then they had all kinds of water issues. We specifically booked a site right across from the bathroom so we didn’t have to go far. We were there from Thursday night until Monday morning. At this park you get your water and do your dishes inside the bath house. The water was brown all weekend so you really couldn’t use it for drinking. The toilets and showers were also brown. Friday night we noticed the park rangers running around trying to fix something but we weren’t sure what. Our bath house was like grand central station with people who kept driving to it. We later found out that a water main broke and they had closed some of the other bath houses. My husband found clean water in only one bath house in the whole campground. Sunday we came back from biking the gap trail and I went to get a shower in our bath house and it was locked. We had to drive all the way to the top of the campground to one of the two bath houses that were still open but only one had clear water. So that meant every time we needed the bathroom or you had to do dishes you had to go all the way up there. We were told they just discovered more leaks in our bath house and that’s why they closed it. I think they knew the leaks were there earlier but they couldn’t possible close all those bathrooms on a full weekend. Each bath house has only three stalls and two showers so imagine having only two bath houses open for a full campground. Then to top it off the train goes through all night blowing it’s horn. We loved Ohiopyle but will not camp here again. One of the worst state park campgrounds we have stayed at.

What kind of tent camping is there in Ohiopyle? Are there any remote spots? Possible to camp near the river or swimmable water?? Thanks!

We camped in the state park camp ground and it was awful! The regular tent sites are right on top of each other. We got a "walk up" site that is a little more private. But you have to haul your stuff up a steep trail to your site. People were partying, cussing, and blaring music until 12:30 and no one stopped them. Worst camping trip we've ever done. Maybe if you go during the week it would be better and less crowded.

Are any of the hiking trails dog friendly? Any other areas in or around the park dog friendly?

The portion of ohiopyle state in and around the town of ohiopyle is dog friendly
Be advised it’s not uncommon to cross the paths of cats, pheasants and ducks.
The trail to cucumber falls is dog friendly.
Another option is to drive up the street to cucumber falls and avoid the extended trail to see cucumber falls directly.
At cucumber falls itself is very dog friendly
Provided the pooch likes steps

We will be staying at an airbnb at the park for a week in August. Is there anywhere in the area that we can rent a pontoon boat for a the day?

Try one of these marinas; they are just across the Route 40 bridge over Yough Lake. Yough Lake Marina @ 814-395-3423 or Lakeside Marina @ 877-211-8919. They are both about 25 minutes from Ohiopyle. Deep Creek Lake is a little further, it is a 55 minute drive from Ohiopyle. There are several marinas there that rent boats. Word of caution; both lakes get very busy on the weekends so a weekday rental will be far more relaxing. Also, book in advance at either.

My family and I are going there in a couple weeks to raft. Should we pack a lunch or are there places close by to eat? Someone mentioned in a review how there are cute shops in town. Also, why is the easiest way to get there from central PA? I know it's only an hour and a half away but not really sure where to go once we are in the general area.

I don't recall any antique stores in Ohiopyle. The visitors' center as well as the river outfitters carry items--T-shirts, jackets, etc.
