‪...by the large photographic mural of the Holocaust survivors in this beautiful memorial. Usually pictures of Holocaust survivors are ghastly testaments to the horror of this repulsive and horrendous event. They always seem to caste the Jewish people as defeated and even inhuman, scarred victims destined for even an worse tragedy. And by the way if you’re a Jew, you know that’s something always on the horizon. Images of Holocaust survivors are equated to those of cancer survivors. This picture: the emaciated, emancipated men barely dressed in tattered threads are defiant and powerful. It’s like they’re ready to continue life as if the Holocaust was just a blink. By the way, I’m not even sure that they’re even Jews in this picture. Many other people like Poles, Roma, gays, were killed in the extermination camps - don’t let anyone tell you anywhere near the amount like that of the Jews though. There’s lots of other images as well as narratives on the panels set between the steel spires that rise up from the ground. Many many different aspects of the war are covered to include Pittsburgh’s industrial role in manufacturing for the Allied victory. I also kind of stared for a while at the picture of the giant atomic mushroom cloud over Japan. I think they even got some kind of Feng Shui thing going on with the memorial being in line with the fountain at Point State Park. I think it’s significant too that it’s located across the street from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. There’s lots of visual and written content here for one to ponder over and identify with. I guess you can tell what impacted me the most. ‬

‪I stopped by this Memorial as I was passing by after checking out the Mr. Rogers sculpture nearby and I'm glad I did. It's a great blend of the big history of the war tied in with the strong role Pittsburgh played in the effort along with personal stories of locals who fought in various aspects of the war, including the significant role women and black soldiers played. Well worth 5-10 minutes of your time to be reminded of the hard road Our ancestors paved to get here.‬

‪The WW2 memorial is a nice tribute to those who fought to save our freedoms that many now take for granted these days. You can visit it along the North Shore trail and park‬

‪This WW2 monument situated on the Heinz Field side of the city is a really great tribute to the fallen, easy to find and spend a minute or two reflecting.‬

‪Happened on this memorial while walking along the riverfront. This is a site worth visiting, as it discusses aspects of a World War II, and causes you to stop and reflect while overlooking the river and skyline of Pittsburgh. Just a little further is Mr. Rogers memorial.‬

‪This is a small memorial with plenty of information. Because of its location, it is worth a stop if you're walking by. Take a minute to read some of the information and respect the people and sacrifices the memorial represents.‬

‪I had the honor of visiting the WWII Memorial on Pittsburgh's North Shore on June 20, 2018. I was overwhelmed with so many different emotions...pride, sadness, wonder, thankfulness, love and faith. Reading the stories etched into the memorial and sitting within the walls of courage left me wanting to learn more about these brave men and women that so gallantly served our nation. I was humbled by their bravery and love of our country. Please take time to read, sit and reflect while there. A huge thank you to all who were instrumental in making this memorial a reality.‬

‪This is likely not a destination memorial but anyone walking N Shore between Heinz and PNC should take a moment and walk through. You can spend 5 minutes, you can spend 30, all depending on your mood for reflection. Sitting right off the river, you have that as a backdrop as you walk in from the street side. It's hard to imagine summarizing WW2 in 8-10 panels but they did a nice job along with some tie in to Pittsburgh's contribution to the war effort. I really recommend taking a moment if you're in the area.‬

‪This monument highlights the role of the city of Pittsburgh to WWII. It also touches upon the plight of the Jews and the contribution of women to WWII. It is close to the Mr. Rogers, Fallen Policemen and Immaculate Reception memorials. Expect to spend 15-20 minutes.‬
