My tour guide was Elle Kenney. She was very insightful and pleasant about the museum. Ryan Cameron came along her , he was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the museum as well . Despite the rain I enjoyed the tour and learned quite a few facts about the Overholt snd Frick families.

Wonderful quick history visit. Decided to go on a Father's Day outing and chose West Overton Village and Museum. The entire family had a great time. The village and museum were reasonably priced. Interesting history of the Overholt/Frick family in the area including birthplace of Henry Clay Frick. Kids enjoyed using the morse code tapper in the museum. Very nice display of WWII information.
Then took the tour with Ryan. Ryan was very friendly and well informed. The tour of the house and grounds took about 45 minutes, which was perfect. Always good to learn and explore local historic sites and the West Overton did not disappoint.

We literally just left a friends wedding that was held at West Overton. Yes the place is cute...and that's about all. The wedding was to be held outside in the garden, but it was raining. Took a good 40 minutes to reset up chairs in the basement of another building (if rain is in the forecast for the day, wouldnt you maybe already have the backup area set so everything can move smoothly along?). Anyways...ceremony over, move to the big barn...H-O-T. No fans. No air flow. But thats ok-because if your a bit warm just hope it rains because you'll get wet while you're inside the barn too. Yep, the roof needs tarred so until thats done take an umbrella for inside use too.
The Food- Catered by Carsons, which we usually like when we go to their restaurant, was simply god awful. I mean, bland as bland can be. Lemonade was basically water, the coffee was burnt tasting and ants were all over. Left as soon as it was socially acceptable.

While traveling in the area we had a bit of time to fill. I had been to this museum as a child many years ago.This was the birth place of Henry J. Frick.
We learned of how his family got there and how well they did in life. The house is open for tours and the museum is just hanging new exhibits.

Grand daughter looking for a place to get married, we checked this place out, not knowing a wedding could be held there, toured the place, and booked the wedding, nice old buildings, gift shop, out buildings, barn for reception, place is fixed up nice, staff was very helpful, etc etc

An old farmhouse; a huge barn, beehive coke ovens, ice house etc delightful historic event displays like the whiskey rebellion in late 18th c. Very helpful volunteers and staff lots of parking, pamphe's available

We were married May 7, 2016 at this location by Tim Carson outdoors in the garden. We were nervous about the rain, but it did hold out for us. Our guests did walk 100 yards from the outdoor cocktail hour and wadding to the reception. Lucky for us the grass wasn't muddy as was noted in a previous review. With the outdoor wedding we made sure our guests new that it was a little less formal and I wore wedges rather than heels to avoid sinking into the ground walking down the aisle. The venue gave us recommendations for DJs, transportation and cake. It is very much a DIY venue. They provided a delicious BBQ buffet, servers and bartenders. We provided the booze. We chose to rent a beer trailer to hold 4 kinds of beer and 1 hard cider. We then provided wine and hard liquor. The venue provided non-alcoholic drinks and mixers. We went with the recommended baker for our cake. She made 2 kinds one was chocolate with peanut butter frosting and raspberry filling, the other Almond cake with buttercream frosting and raspberry filling. We also used their recommended transport for our guests to and from the nearby hotel (Quest Transit). We used a DJ that our friends had used at their weddings in Morgantown. He was a little disappointed that there wasn't wifi for him to be able to broadcast a feed on his event page. He still have full access to music and we placed him in the middle of the room near the dance floor to keep people entertained.
The venue allowed for a very relaxed reception. People danced and mingled inside the big barn, they gathered in groups outside the barn with easy access to the beer trailer, they also laughed playing a multitude of outdoor games we setup for their enjoyment.
The staff was all super helpful and friendly. They took the time to learn guests names and talk with guests. I thought it was a wonderful approach the bartender pouring beer approached one of our friends and told her kindly that he didn't think he could refill her husbands drink he he wanted more beer (as he was a bit inebriated). I thought this was a very classy and responsible approach. We served alcohol for a total of 9 hours that day starting 1 hour before the wedding. There were bound to be some people that needed to be told to take a break from drinking and we were impressed that the bartenders were looking out for our guests in this way.
This venue was absolutely beautiful! We can't say enough about how great the staff and the venue were!

We attended a wedding reception there for friends from Rochester, NY. The reception was in a barn, which was very nicely decorated, but after parking, we were told we had to walk down a gravel road to the museum for cocktails. It was a good hundred yards down the muddy gravel road, and the women in heels, weren't very happy! The museum was very small for the crowd, Stand up tables only with no seating area, with a limited bar of 2 choices of beer, a couple of wines and a weird assortment of liquors. Not much for mixed drinks. There was one station for appetizers with only 5 choices of finger foods. They ran out of napkins, so with finger foods, there was no way to clean your hands. The forks and plates were more for a picnic than a wedding! It was not a good experience for the cocktail hour. Then we had to walk back up the muddy gravel road to the barn for the reception. Nicely decorated and roomy, but then cam the dinners! Major disappointment for a sit down dinner. The portion of beef was very small with a small teasing portion of a gravy. Roasted potatoes and half done carrots were served with it. The other choice was chicken which was very dry and no seasoning that could be tasted. They might be better off serving buffets. There was a DJ playing canned music that was so loud you could hear in conversations. Overall .... it wasn't all that great of an experience!

Lived within 35 miles of West Overton Village and finally made t a destination, So glad I did.
Very nicely restored village with real people guides who are willing and able to answer questions in addition to presenting the required dialogue, This really makes the tour worthwhile and personable. Plan on about 3 hours max for the tour and to wander around. Good for children or if you are having a bit of trouble getting about (except for the mansion (ask to enter thru the front door......level with the yard. Back entrance has lottsa steps). Reasonable pricing.....tip the tour guide if you're really pleased....we were. Oh....if you need a venue for a private party or wedding/reception, ask about the Barn. A wedding reception was being set up during the day of our tour, and I wish we could have crashed it.....absolutely beautiful interior, configured for the express purpose. Very impressive.

I have been wanting to visit here for a while and finally got the chance over Labor Day weekend. The museum is very well done with information about the area as well as the family that settled there. We happened to be there just as a wedding was getting
underway and our guide altered the tour of the out buildings so we could still see everything without disturbing the wedding.
The people working there are very proud of West Overton and it shows in their helpfulness and knowledge. Highly recommended!
