Having been snow tubing 3 times before on different mountains, I had some expectations. My son and I happened to be booked on a day with very inclement weather. It was hailing and there hadn't been a lot of snow in general. Ice pelting you in the face is beyond their control, so that was unpleasant.. but okay. The problem arose when the speed of the tube was so fast that I hit the retention wall at an extremely high speed. I would say 25 or 30 MPH. I didn't seem to slow down at all. The distance was either too short and/or there was no hill to go up as you approached it. When I hit the wall, the snow tube bounced out from under me, I slid out of the tube, slammed into the wall on my back and then fell onto the ground below. It felt like a really hard blow to my body, even though I didn't seem to have any particular medical needs in the moment. I have since had some shooting pains in my back that I didn't have previously. It is possible that the freezing rain enhanced the tube speeds that day. In any event, Shawnee should make some changes to that hill and therefore I do not recommend the snow tubing.

I was told this is one of the good locations for skiing. My grand children are very fond of skiing and I accompanied them when they went there for skiing. The drive to the location was very nice and the amenities and the ease with which one could register and enjoy skiing especially for kids were quite satisfying. I could relax in the cafeteria and watch the kids skiing. Since the kids wanted to ski on two days we stayed in a nearby hotel overnight. Thre whole trip was enjoyable

Super friendly place. Very reasonable prices that won't break you when you take the whole family. A lot better than the bigger ski resorts, If you want just a quick day of skiing and not get extreme this is your place. We enjoyed it and would go again if we get back this way on another vacation.

If you are beginner and need lessons. This is not the right mountain! I have come to this mountain several times due to it close proximity and less crowd. So if you know how to ski then I guess it is fine. I had a two group lessons with my kid and the instructor was no good. The little chief slope where beginners learn often have snowboarder crowding the slope making it really difficult to navigate and people there are least concerned. I was having a refresher course and it was first time for my daughter. They simply followed a 3-4 points on how to stop , how to turn but if you ask what I am doing wrong they had no answer. To be fair one other member of my family had a different instructor and that person was great. So it is hit and miss and once you start the group lesson it won't be possible to change. Same is their case with private one one. You need to buy before hand and you get what is available. Even asking about someone friendly with kids gets a irritated response. You might see from other reviews ski instructors are a hit or miss. if you are lucky you will get good instructor I wouldn't wanna experience this after paying for a private $165 lesson especially for my kid. I see lot of comments here where management has replied I hope there is a change in this school.

Bad Experience, not enough snow to even cover hill. Took a big fall because it went from snow to grass and now my ankle is all messed up. Person working there was not helpful at all.

This place is absolutely incredible. We are Camelback season pass holders but are deeply concerned about the direction of their ski school. I have an Indy Pass so I decided I had nothing to lose and check out Shawnees ski school. For the same price as 1.5 hours at Camelback you get 3 hours at Shawnee and the level of teaching is far higher. This ski area is clearly dedicated to growing the sport of skiing and the local community. The terrain is generally very mild so it’s fantastic for getting your whole family into the sport.

I have been traveling for many years to go to Shawnee twice a year two months ago I went and it was closed on the Internet page it said open I missed the trip and I come from Puerto Rico now I returned on February 3 and it is not the same the rafts are very slow They put too many tires to hold the speed apart from the fact that you throw yourself almost halfway downhill, it really doesn't work, they should put some lanes for those who want to go fast and others with rubber or for those who want slower I won't come back it was $ lost now I'll look for it another park.

This is the best place ever to learn to ski in a friendly and relaxed environment. Both of my boys, Robbie aged 3 and Ittie aged 6 had a great time during the 5 days we skied between Christmas and New Year's. Shout out to Robbie's amazing private teacher Theresa, who made his experience so great and managed to even take him to the bunny hill during his last lesson. Ittie's mountain cruiser teachers Walter (who we later discovered also moonlights in a band - great music!), Bruno and Alexandra were also pretty awesome and got him to really enjoy his time on the big slopes. Billy was great for my lesson and taught me so much more that I got out of previous lessons at other places. Mike and Robin, who are some of the folks that run the ski school program were also amazing and really accommodating when Ittie needed to test out of his age group and join a more advanced program for older kids. Overall, we are so grateful for an amazing experience - great job everyone! We have already booked out tickets for President's day weekend and are looking forward to being back here.

We had a great time tubing with a 6 and 9 year old. The staff on the tubing hill were very safety conscious and very friendly. Never waited more than a couple of minutes for the run. Fun!

If you're a beginner or low intermediate skier/snowboarder this is a good mountain at which to learn and improve your skills. The trails are long enough for you to get in a rhythm while practicing your technique, yet short enough so you won't get exhausted doing so. And while there is a variety of trails to choose from, none of them are particularly difficult. We did some spring skiing on a weekday in mid-March, and while the snow conditions weren't great (not their fault, blame Mother Nature/Global Warming), prices were reasonable for the percentage of the mountain that was open. However, we cannot vouch for what prices are like earlier in the season and during holidays like Presidents' Weekend. Being so close to Philly and NYC means it also probably gets quite crowded then, as well as on weekends. So go on a weekday if you can.

We would recommend The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. It is only 2.5 miles away and they have great ski and stay packages available.

Hi, I am looking for a family-friendly, not too crowded ski area with decent snow and with slopes for beginners-intermediates. My kids are 13 and 15 and have skiied for years but only ski one day per year, so they're really not very experienced. They have both been injured skiing in the past, so I am trying to get over my fear and let them ski again - but I don't want a resort that's super-crowded, super icy, or leans toward the more challenging slopes. I don't ski, so would love a lodge that is comfy to hang out in while I wait for them to ski with my husband. We are considering Shawnee or Blue Mountain or Camelback. Shawnee is the closest, about 70 minutes drive. Does anyone have any thoughts about which of the three resorts is best for this situation?

Shawnee and Blue Mountain are both good places, Since I live close I haven't stayed locally, I do know there are places like Bear Creek that have packages that include skiing. There is a smaller tubing only place by the old Fernwood but that limits what there is to do.

Is it safe/allowed for toddlers to ride the tandem snow tubes with their parent? I have a 2.5 year old.

Thank you for your question. Any child under the age of 4 must ride in a tandem tube with an adult and should be able to get out of the tube by themselves. Keep in mind that snow tubing is a thrill ride and may not be suitable for small children. If you have additional questions, please contact us by phone for a quick response.
