While in Shenandoah shopping at Kowalonek's we spotted the Miner's Memorial. Impressive monument to the miners from the area. Worth a stop.

A moving memorial dedicated to the many that lost their lives mining coal. Many of these immigrants came to the U.S. seeking a better way of life. With little education and means they worked in many positions which often had them gambling with their lives. One of the displays at the memorial is a six ton piece of Anthracite. I had pictures to attach, but TA is not offering me a button to attach them.
