My wife and myself are from NW Indiana when we visit we always go here!! Good stuff and the people that work there are fabulous we are here one a year st least and we always find something!! 😎

We noticed this place on the way to Fort Fremont, but waited to stop on our way out. It offers a lot of neat items, as well as a cafe. I wished I was hungry, but I wasn't. .

This establishment has come a long way since I first visited back in the 1990's. The new owners present an eclectic selection of local (!) products made in the Lowcountry from furniture to foodstuffs. We were greeted by an elderly Irish Setter and her master. I was pleased to find Clemson blue cheese and some unusual products. The peach salsa I bought got rave reviews at home and I bought a bag of peanuts fried in the shell as a stocking stuffer. Lest you think Clemson cheese is not local, Tiger fans consider the team "home town" no matter where they live.

Quaint little store on the side of 21 heading to Hunting Island State park. Lots of decor for sale. They also sell homemade preserves and honey.

... when you take the time to wander! We were visiting the area for my nephew's Marine Corp boot camp graduation, and decided to sneak away for an afternoon of exploring. We drove by this store once, and decided to turn around and check it out. The owners and their awesome welcoming committee-of-one, Blue, greeted us warmly and spent some time filling us in on the area. Among the treasures I found when we were talking were beautiful art pieces, unique crafts and jewelry and tempting local jarred goods. We purchased the Key Lime Vinaigrette, Hot Peach Sauce and a jar of gumbo. Thoroughly enjoyed the time spent, but was a bit disappointed that the café in the back was not open at the time. Hoping to come down to the area again, and will DEFINITELY make the time to stop by.

We saw previous reviews and decided to check it out. The couple running the store were welcoming and friendly. Their dog, Blue was present and very lovely. The store had some nice local artist wares. It was eclectic and may appeal to those looking for souvenirs from the area.
We did not eat at the Blue Dog Cafe, so I have nothing to say about the food. Sorry to sayThe Red Piano Too Gallery was much more impressive than the Lowcountry store. We are interested in Folk Art and the Red Door had an extensive selection.
But, in fairness they are probably appealing to different customers. So, both are worth a visit.
We did not eat at the Blue Dog Cafe, so I have nothing to say about the food. Sorry to sayThe Red Piano Too Gallery was much more impressive than the Lowcountry store. We are interested in Folk Art and the Red Door had an extensive selection.
But, in fairness they are probably appealing to different customers. So, both are worth a visit.

Cluttered and full of souvenir merchandise, this impromptu stop on our trip left a bit to be desired. The cafe in the rear of the store looked cute, though.

Stopped at the Lowcountry Store after reading about their gumbo, and we were not disappointed! Such an interesting store with local arts and crafts, canned goods, and a variety of unique items to the lowcountry. We each had the gumbo special which included a biscuit. As others have described, the owners use their own recipes and they clearly know how to cook! The gumbo was very hearty with fresh shrimp, andouille sausage, okra, and scrumptious tomatoes. We also had the tomato and apple pie, and both were very good...obviously homemade and extremely tasty. The owners and their dog are very pleasant people and have done a great job with their store and the Blue Dog Cafe, which is the name of the cafe in the back. Definitely give them a try for a local experience, and we will be back!
