This is a special little spot in Knoxville. If you've had a wonderful dinner downtown and you're looking to have a cocktail and an intimate chat, or just spend some time with friends in a cozy room, this is the spot. Be aware, this is a speakeasy. This cocktail room is located through a door behind the Oliver Hotel marked by the red light (you won't miss it). Retrieve their entry code for the day through their social page and dress decently and head on over. The cocktail menu is pretty decent and the drinks were definitely good especially for Knoxville, but the atmosphere is the main reason for stopping in. The service here is good too. In my experience, those that don't enjoy places like this tend to not appreciate the spirits they've ordered or the workmanship that goes on behind the bar to craft such complex drinks. If you don't appreciate a quality cocktail, probably stay away from spots where they're 15 dollars and up. If you do on the other hand enjoy the finer things and want an intimate extension to your night, stop into the library. Peter will be glad you did.

My mom and I stopped here for drinks mid-week before dinner on a visit to Knoxville. We loved the whole “secret” vibe - fyi, you do need a password from social media to get in. The drinks were great and the decor was neat. Staff was polite and efficient.

Slightly on the cozy / smaller side - but the intimacy and sophistication of the decor makes it worth it.

First of all , we were so excited about the experience that was supposed to be given to us. When we arrived no one to greet us or open door! And YES the red light was on. We had to figure out how to open door ourselves after knocking for well over ten minutes. Then finally after getting in and waiting at hostess stand for another five minutes, we finally were greeted by a very rude gentleman. He looked us up and down and told us for future reference we would not be allowed in due to open toed shoes. I’m a fifty year old woman and my sister fifty-three. We were dressed in nice tops and sandals. He told us we could sit where we wanted. Then we sat down and waitress was nice. Then looking at a couple at the bar to my shock she had open toe shoes. We then were told they no longer serve anymore food. We ordered very over priced drinks at 20 dollars a drink. One drink was all ice and flowers in very small glass. My drink was the worst drink I have ever had. It is awful and guess what a man with flip flops and plain white t shirt and his wife dressed the same were let in and treated very kindly. We managed to force that awful drink down worst thing ever. And quickly paid and went somewhere else had great drinks fun and everyone was treated there with kindness respect and dignity, Showing no discrimination as we had here, AVOID this place! Way to many other places here that will be a wonderful experience not this type of environment. Avoid at all cost,

Rude Doorperson, perhaps not sufficiently trained. Exhibited unexpectedly unwelcoming and unnecessarily aggressive attitude to myself and accompanying other adult male, each in 60s, when we asked natural questions of first-time visitors seeking entry. Announced out-of-context that she is a lesbian, and denied our entry. That she may be a lesbian is fine with us, but it seemed that she denied our entry given her petsonsl gender bias and/or age discrimination. She is in the hospitality industry representing the hotel and restaurant ownership and denied one of its owner's current guests/patrons to one of its advertised public amenities. This establishment is a place of public accommodation and not a private club. Discrimination as practiced by the Doorperson/hotel/restaurant is illegal and should not be tolerated by the ownership or potential guests.

We had drinks last night. Our bartender was incredible. He had a tattoo ring finger. He told us his name and I forgot to write it down. He guided my husband through whisky selection and gave history on all of them. He also made me a drink for a picky drinker that I am. It was amazing!

We had a recommendation to try this speakeasy. What a gem we found! Dark wood bookshelves, leather booth seating, a fireplace and some of the most authentic cocktails to be had. I had one of the best Old Fashions ever. This will easily become our favorite weekend haunt.

Our Daughter and Son-in-law didn't tell us where we were going, but surprised us and took us to the Peter Kern Library. I was a little skeptical when we went down an alley and knocked on a door, but what a surprise, We had some of their signature cocktails and appetizers, absolutely incredible. They told us that you had to check on their FaceBook or Instagram page to get the password to get in, (our daughter had already done that). The staff were great. It is a little pricey but what fun. and was definitely worth it.

Absolutely complete prohibition bar with password entry, no windows and a great list of prohibition drinks. The mushroom toast was fantastic as well. They are limited on space here and to find the password, go to their facebook page and it is listed.

We wanted to go somewhere off the beaten path and the Library was the perfect spot. The entrance is a secret and you need the password to get in which just ups the fun factor. Inside you feel like you've entered a time capsule - comfy booths, fireplace, and talented mixologist. The spirits selection has a nice selection of whiskys, whiskeys, bourbon, and gin. However, the cocktails are the shining star. They are inventive , tasty, and presented with style.

Yes there is a dress code. It is clearly stated in their menu. As I recall, no tee shirts, no shirts without collars, no ball caps, no “inappropriate attire”. Given that this is Knoxville, however, I sincerely doubt they would turn away anyone with a credit card.
