plenty of wildlife in away from crows areas. The path from Exeter can be busy as it runs alongside the river but offers places to eat along the route. Ideal for cycling

Read a few reviews on here about the guy on the ferry being grumpy,
well i can honestly say he was far from that yesterday, nice ,friendly, even had a bit of banter.

This was our first time in Exmouth and we were pleasantly surprised. What a scenic and wonderful place it is. There are river cruises and walks along the river and wonderful villages with small shops to browse local good in. Great place to spend a day, or more.

Beautiful view from Exmouth across the estuary with a very sandy beach.
The river Exe is as the area suggests the dominant feature- and in Exmouth as well as a beautiful town square the promenade, beach and river traffic provide that extra dimension.
With regards to the Exmouth sea from the notices say clearly that all dogs should be on a lead- no calendar exemption - but this was generally ignored.

Mark the owner Starcross Ferry's......shocking attitude. Needs to reevaluate the way he speaks to his customers. Paid the guy, got bikes on board. Husband didn't see the sign regarding masks, explained asthmatic. Mark said 'so what, no mask you ain't getting on my boat' carried on being rude and bullying, other staff member decided to join in also. So told him to get out bike's off and had money back. Ruined planned day. Totally aware of covid but had no issues sitting on train with no mask the day before. Man in payment kiosk who refunded the money said he speaks like that to his own staff....enough said.

The ferry is very awkward to access with bikes as there is no ramp, so they need to be lifted up and down the stairs of the rail bridge. There was no indication of any alternative route, so I imagine it would be very hard with prams or wheelchairs too.
The man on the boat was very rude insisting we had to take the pannier bags off the bikes. He did not offer any assistance with carrying the bikes on the jetty steps either
I would not recommend using the ferry as the ferry man was so unpleasant.

The Exe estuary must be one of the most beautiful estuaries in the world. Poets and artists have been inspired by it, as have novelists and painters. Walk down to the goat walk in Topsham to get inspiring views out to sea. Or taken the Round Robin boat trip to Exmouth to catch sight of avocets and green-blue translucent waters. Lympstone is a little gem and worth a wander around its maze of streets.

Took a cruise on river Exe with Stuart line cruises
Paid an extra £3.50 for cream tea. This was excellent, and well worth it a very large scone cut in half with lots of cream and jam and a coffee
Cruise was lovely and crew very informative.
Would definitely do it again

There is a good walk starting from the town square, cut through a nice little park to the river. You can then walk for a good way until you come to the end of the promenade .there are plenty of benches where you can sit and enjoy the view with places to have a drink or an ice cream. For the energetic it is a good days walk along the coast path to Budleigh Salterton which is excellent, there is then an hourly bus service back to Exmouth

The walk along the banks of the River Exe can begin at Exmouth beside the railway line and take you via Lympstone and Topsham and Countesswear and end up at the lovely Exeter Quay, from where you can then climb up to Exeter City Centre with its beautiful cathedral and historical tunnels. A truly beautiful city!
