‪A really lovely beach, four different car parks.
Knoll beach has toilets and restaurant.
There is a heather walk which would look absolutely gorgeous when in flower‬

‪Perked at Middle Beach to walk for views of Harry Rocks along to South Beach, taking in Fort Henry.
Back to Middle Beach, we drove to Knoll Beach, the main hive of activity to explore along the beach in both directions, but also there are boded areas here to explore.
NT shop and general facilities here too.
Beautiful area, grand views and that fresh sea air.‬

‪Beautiful unspoilt beach. We took the chain ferry from Sandbanks and walked the length of the beach and onwards to Old Harry Rocks. There are toilets and a nice café at Knoll Beach, run by the NT, but no other facilities. The beach itself is very clean and the sea water also looks clean. Although I only put my feet in, it seemed quite warm!‬

‪Many years ago my parents used to take me to Studland beach where we made many happy memories. I have returned over the years with my own children and now, approaching our sixties, we come with our 2 dogs.

The sand at the back of the beach is so soft it’s like sinking your feet into velvet and
the grass of the dunes presents a beautiful backdrop.

The sea is very shallow and dotted with paddle-boarders as it can be so calm. There is a band of seaweed on entering the sea but you soon get through this to the wonderful clear waters.

The sands can become very busy but everyone seems to cohabit well and in all the years that I have visited I have never witnessed any anti-social behaviour.

The National Trust facilities just off the beach are very well kept and it’s hard to leave the beach without getting a rhubarb and custard ice cream; delicious!

My advice would be to get here early and walk up the beach away from the facilities where it is much quieter.

Thank you to The National Trust for keeping this area as beautiful as it was 50 years ago xxx‬

‪First time visit to the National Trust Knoll Beach at Studland. With schools back we thought it might be quiet but it’s clearly a beach enjoyed by all ages. Plenty of car parking but can imagine it fills up early on a hot summers day. £10 for the car for all day seemed reasonable. Lovely sandy beach backed by sand dunes and a nature reserve. Cafe, shop, sup & kayak hire on site plus toilet facilities. We had a great day.‬

‪Studland has to be my absolute favourite beach to visit. Free parking for national trust members, not completely commercialised, sandy, shallow sea for a while out and a great place to enjoy water sports (of your own, or to hire).

The beach has a cafe that is continuing a reduced menu (no fish and chips now is a slight surprise!), but meals are nice. The queue for ice cream is as per general national trust standards, urm, er, slow, but the ice creams are nice and so long as it is sunny, it isn't too much bother.

Due to its location, Studland is the perfect place for water sports (SUPs, kayaks, banana boats - the like) as it is quite a sheltered beach and has plenty of space. There are also swim zones for those swimmers who want to ensue that they don't resurface under someone's boat.
On fair weather days, it is possible to use the sheltered areas near enough the cliff to paddleboard or kayak out to Old Harry's Rocks, which I have enjoyed many a time. In addition, banana boat hire was fun for all, and after a slight gasp at the price, was enjoyed by everyone - although be warned, you will be chucked off at least once!

This has to be my favourite beach, and I will always keep coming back here regularly should nothing change too much!‬

Thank you for your review; it certainly is a special beach! Unfortunately, like most hospitality places at present, we're working with a smaller team so have a slightly reduced menu. Hopefully you still found a treat in the cafe, even if it wasn't fish and chips. Hope to see you again soon.

‪The Naturist area is approached along the general beach area from the National Trust car park area. There are signs along the beach to designate when you are entering the Naturist area. Here, it is not as busy and there is plenty of room to sunbathe. There are a mixture of families, couples and singles enjoying the experience. The sand dunes behind are also designated for naturists. The area at the far end of the beach is considered to be more for gays, but this didn't appear to pose any problems for people in that area. The atmosphere everywhere is friendly and relaxed. Great place to go swimming or walk along the water's edge or through the dunes. Although there are no facilities for food or toilets, one of the highlights was the arrival of a boat selling ice-creams along the beach.
The area is also patrolled by National Trust Wardens and they will respond to any reports of unsuitable behaviour.
Overall, this is a great place to catch the sun in a safe naturist environment - Enjoy.
It is really nice and peaceful in the early evening when the sun is starting to set.‬

‪Visited here with young children during August school holidays. It was the first properly sunny day in over a week so expected it to be busy

We parked in Knoll Beach car park which is close to the amenities. Toilets (which can double as changing) and a small cafe selling ice creams/drinks etc

Got there early (0930 hrs) and had no trouble getting a space. The parking is cash only which is a joke given its 10 pounds for the day- doesn't take notes either so be warned

Having parked up we cut through the accessible parking area and walked about 100 metres to the left to set up our space at the back of the beach. Within an hour it had got substantially busier and come 1100 hrs it was heaving. That said at no point did it feel cramped. Yes it was busy, but there was still plenty of space.

The sand is amazing. You could be abroad. Sea was clean albeit freezing! Lots of watersports on offer from the central hub. They can be purchased using card so no need for cash.

Daughter wanted to go on the banana boats but they have a height restriction of 1.4 metres so couldn't. Would have been £10 a ride. They also offer kayaks, paddleboards, pedalos etc. Queues throughout the day for ice cream were ridiculous- im talking 45 minutes+, so best off taking your own grub.

Going back to how busy it was, naturally it was more cramped close to the main toilet section. However a 5 minute walk away towards the north of the beach and it was like a different place. Plenty more space and a much much quieter

There is a nudist/naturist section further up the beach towards shell bay. It's a good 10 minute walk from the main amenities block, if not more. Whilst it's very peaceful and spacious, you are limited with using any facilities shouod you need to

The naturist section is clearly signed. It felt fairly empty compared to the main beach. It's probably a half mile stretch. Most people were set up in tents/windbreakers at the rear of the beach, so if you walk along the water you'll know there are naked people sunbathing, but most are a good 50 feet away if not more

There were of course some walking along the shore and good for them, as it was a perfect day for it. 95% of nudists were aged 50+. There were some families in the section, but they were only using it as it was far more spacious and weren't actually partaking. It is very family friendly- our daughter was fine and felt comfortable walking through

The only odd thing I found was in the grassed dunes area at the back. Random single blokes just circling around. Didn't make any sense as there were literally hundreds of feet or beautiful beach to use. Either way, didn't bother us as they are a good 60 feet+ away

Could have stayed but had to leave about 1700 hrs, and this is where the biggest tip comes in. If you have kids, prepare for hell on earth! Getting from the beach to the main road with the junction with Corfe Castle took absolutely ages. The traffic was horrendous. No exaggeration it took 45 minutes to travel 0.9 miles it was that gridlocked

That said, I can't moan as we were part of the traffic! Just make sure you build this delay into any onward journey

Overall, an incredible day out. Lovely beach, lovely sea, plenty of room if you are able to walk away from the main section. Just wish they offered parking by card‬

‪Absolutely gorgeous beach, clean and the water is beautiful. Parked at Knoll beach (as they seem to have now got rid of all the free parking down the road with signs that your car will be towed away) which does cost a bit, National Trust at their best of course. We walk along away from all of the children and noise, and you soon find much clearer water (theres a lot of seaweed by Knoll beach), cleaner sand and less children. Stunning. If you use the parking app, be warned, you cant top up whilst on the beach, theres no signal. So you might have to walk all the way back and even then, struggle with signal to use it.‬

Hi Jo, Thank your for your review. The Temporary Traffic Management Order along Ferry Road was introduced for the 2021 summer by Dorset Council following road obstructions in previous years. The area immediately outside the entrance to Knoll Beach, marked with signs, does not permit parking on the verge from 15 March-30 September between 10am-7pm. From 22 May - 1 November, the TTMO along Ferry Road between the ferry terminal to approximately 50m north of the entrance to Knoll Beach permits parking on the verges provided that the vehicle is not obstructing an access gate and that no part of the vehicle is parked on or over the yellow line, and therefore obstructing the road. These areas are also signed. This information is correct as of August 2021. Please always check the official signage for the most up to date information on restrictions. Unfortunately mobile phone signal can be weak at Studland. Our Welcome Team are also on hand at the Knoll Beach Office and can help if you have any problems when trying to pay for parking. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your visit.
