What an amazing place, watching the Red Kites circling in the sky and swooping down to feed was amazing. Well worth a visit.

Great welcome, easy to park, lots of seating, friendly people. Organised, on time with event, over 100 red kites visited the feeding station.

Our first visit to this place was over 10 years ago so decided to pay another visit. It has changed immensely and is now a comfortable, cosy place to watch a marvelous spectacle of approx 100 red kites swooping down to be fed. The lady in the visitor centre was polite, courteous and very knowledgeable. Can defintely recommend this place

No better way to spend 2-3hrs outside. A lovely short walk around the grounds. I’d recommend taking a picnic as there’s a fantastic spot to eat with a great view.
The lady on reception was lovely and very helpful about the local area. The lemon drizzle was good and a proper door wedge of a slice. Oh and the kites were an unbelievable spectacle, worth wrapping up warm and watching them for ages.

Really recommend visiting this place , seeing the Kites overhead and swooping down for food so close was just amazing, a few people left after 20 minutes as the kites were still circling and it was cold, we watched for 45 minutes and were rewarded with seeing them close up, so wrap up( you can watch from inside the cafe too) and be patient, lovely people running it and happy to answer all my questions too.

This was recommended to me and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. This place has so much potential and could be really good. On arrival went into what looked like an old fashioned community centre versus someone's living room. It costs £5 per adult to watch the kites being fed. Kids are free. However to charge £2 for a sachet of coffee was so disappointing. The staff were friendly but as per previous reviews a bit of commentary while birds getting fed would be great to learn something. It was great to watch but there was nothing else.

This is a cute little place where the family who run it are super friendly and informative. The selection of snacks is limited but the cake is good! Coffee and hot chocolate come from sachets but are standard.
There’s a large inside area which has lots of unique and vintage seating. There is also a little play area for children which my son described as amazing. There was a little play den tractor and toys to keep him occupied whilst we waited for the kites to feed.
There’s also a lovely scenic walk around the property. Worth a visit

We picked up a Galloway Red Kite Trail information leaflet from the site where we were staying and drove either side of Loch Ken and the River Dee on the A762 and A713. We saw several red kites including a couple who flew close to us but were there at the wrong time to see them fed at Bellymack Hill. We stopped for refreshments at the Catstrand Arts & Visitor Centre which the leaflet says has toilets - but it has a fabulous cafe too! We had decided to walk to the Bennan Viewpoint and Secret Cages to which the leaflet gives good, clear directions. Unfortunately the Secret Cages are ruins which can't have housed any Red Kites for years and the Bennan Viewpoint is overgrown, with an impeded view towards Loch Ken. The best view is a few yards before the Viewpoint now, and the information board looks tired and dirty. It looks like the decline of this area began well before the pandemic - hope it can be tidied up and restored in future. The leaflet ends by saying the Galloway Kite Trail Partnership cannot be held responsible for any changes in the quality or nature of facilities listed around the trail. Visitors - beware!

I have visited this Red Kite feeding station every other year since it opened but I make it part of a whole birding experience, so visit other RSPB reserves and view kites whilst walking around Loch Ken. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful and yes it has gone up in cost but as it would be hard to get this close to these magnificent birds. One point worth noting is the feeding time seems to be longer these days, some people left after 20 mins so weren't impressed but after a short wait they came on mass and as always worth the wait.

Haven’t been to the feeding station as the Kites are easily seen locally. But if you pay, you’ll see many dozens from their one viewpoint.
Drive or cycle from Ringford (off A75) to Laurieston and you’re pretty much guaranteed to see plenty of Red Kites. The fields had been recently ploughed & dozens of birds were feeding on the bare soil or wheeling overhead very close by. It’s a quiet road with places to stop, and signed the “Red Kite Trail”.
Or walk up the hill to the Red Kite view point by taking the path directly opposite the Loch Ken Caravan Park (public car park just off the A713). Better still, stay on the campsite and hear the birds right overhead as you sit outside.
Or go to Threave Castle near Castle Douglas at the right time of year (say, April to early August) to see Kites - but also Osprey.
