Had 90 minutes in Stromness in a day tour of the Orkneys. Found this place just walking down the street. Excellent selection of African items at reasonable prices.

The best selection of authentic African clothing anywhere, ethically produced and sourced. Artisan cloth beautiful enough to just walk in and admire as one would a museum.

visited Stromness with friends as part of an Orkney tour we were doing. We did not have long to spend in this town and would like to go back, Found a lovely bookshop, a nice gift shop, a very helpful opticians, and a great shop called a Touch of Africa. Run by a nice man, I found the perfect fabric I needed for a project. I couldn't have imagined it better! Very pleased! All the proceeds from the shop go to Africa, help the people who make the products on sale. Good quality pieces, including clothes and jewellery and fabrics and other bits and pieces.

We were walking along the main street of Stromness (That changes its name every few yards......) and saw this store that looked tempting, so in we went.
A Touch of Africa is run by a charming lady who travels to Africa (Primarily Gambia) every so often to purchase and bring back her merchandise.
The store is very colorful and offers beautiful materials, clothes, artwork and original jewellery.
Everything is full of colour and the naive touch that is typical in many African countries and cultures.
We came away with some beautiful stuff for ourselves and as gifts.
Definitely worth a visit.
