This beach is beautiful. It's a vast expanse of white sand leading to clear, turquoise waters. It looks like it should be in the Caribbean. Beyond the beach, you can explore the sand dunes and other smaller bays.

Really nice beach, parking right beside it. Nice for a peaceful walk and not too busy! 100% recommend and would definitely go back!

We were very fortunate to visit on such a beautiful day. The beach is incredible with spectacular views over the turquoise waters. You can easily mistake it for the Mediterranean! Worth the visit to Durness alone.

Stunning beach,a short walk (or quick drive, parking available) from Balnakeil Craft Village. A must visit while in / around Durness.

We've visited Durness a few years ago. But didn't really have time to look around. This time we brought a bit more time with.
Parked our car at the very pretty remains of the Balnakeil Church and then headed to the beach.
It was a windy, grey and rainy day. Sometimes the sun broke through though. Made a very nice, magical and eerie atmosphere. Despite the weather there were some visitors. A good number of the with dogs. So our Bulldog had fun meeting furry friends on this dog-friendly beach.
It is a beautiful beach. By the colour you feel like transported right into the caribbean. It's just a wee bit colder here.
A wide, very clean and fine sand beach. Backed by lovely dunes. Great for a walk. Nice to let your dog run free.
We followed the long beach to the northern end and planned on walking to the Faraid Head. There's a nice trail heading there. A pretty easy walk. But we only managed halfway.
The wind was incredibly strong that day. The sand blew in our faces and in our dogs. It was quite painful and didn't make sense to keep going that day. So we decided to head back... the rain did hit us a few minutes later back on the beach.
Nonetheless a wonderful place to visit. And maybe next time we'll get to the Faraid Head.

We enjoyed walking along the beach and admiring its beauty. The sand was white and the swell was not too great. We could see dark clouds in the distance and with rain threatening, we decided to cut our visit short. An unexpected find.

I didn't realise you could walk to Balnakeil Beach from Durness, but you can, and it's quite easy going. You can stop off at the craft village (and Cocoa Mountain) on the way. It takes about 30 minutes in total. When you arrive, it is well worth. Stunning, white, sandy beach, and relatively quiet. I wish I had more time to walk the full length of the beach, and explore a little more

We visited Balnakeil beach after visiting nearby Smoo Cave. We managed to park in our campervan. It was lovely and calming. We found some Chert which my son loved as we’d just learnt about this rock at the Smoo Cave tour. If you strike it against another Chert it sparks and has a strong smell. Fascinating and Balnakeil beach is one of the few places in Scotland to find it. The little church was interesting to read about and walk around. A very picturesque spot.

My favourite beach in durness this is. The sands were golden and the sea was turquoise. Just like the carribean.

Some of the reviews mention sewage and pollution , how much of a problem is this, has the NC500 created problems, we went to the hebrides s couple years ago and they were great, I always imagined the North coast would be similarly stunning, it would be a shame if over tourism would affect this area as it has done in Cornwall in England, there are loads of great reviews , are they the ones to pay attention to

We found no traces of sewage and pollution on our travels. We camped at sites that were immaculate and all beaches we saw were beautiful and as others have said before me there were sheep and cattle on or by some beaches.

Hi. Are dogs allowed on the beaches in July?

Dogs are allowed but to get to the northern part of the beach which is worth doing the path cuts across grazing land and there was a lot of cattle so dog would need to be on short lead. If you go at low tide you may be able to walk round the headland without needing to cut inland. It's a fantastic beach as are all the beaches along this stretch of coast and our dog was on most of them with no problems.

Should be in Tounge; about 15 miles away, there are B&B's in Durness and there are also caravans; I dont have any details though; I would do a search though; its a truly beautiful part of the country
