‪Absolutely fantastic and something we have wanted to do for a long time. The ferryman was just great on the short crossing over. It was a lovely calm day and 9 of us in total did the morning trip. Stuart our minibus driver was exceptional from his great commentary and humour keeping us well entertained and informed on the journey there and back. An hour each way, with his excellent driving skills navigating the narrow and bumpy roads with tight bridge crossings.
Such big thanks to Stuart and the ferryman for such a great day.‬

‪Stuart ( Minibus ) and Malcolm ( Ferryman ) combined to make a really memorable trip . Bit windy and a bit of rain , but this is the North west of Scotland . Wonderful Scenery and lots of Great Banter in the Minibus .‬

‪We caught a small ferry (first come first served basis) at 12:15 then got on a minibus with great commentary all the way to the lighthouse. The journey lasted about an hour. When we got to the lighthouse the views were spectacular. We went in the cafe and the lady who served us was lovely she offered my 4 year old son a kitkat and a postcard as a souvenir. The coffee served was really decent too (hubby had a beer). This trip was well worth the money £10 per adult for the boat and £15 for the minibus trip)‬

‪It starts in Keoldale. The small boat makes only 2 Trips (weather permitting), one at about 9:15 and the other at 12:15. Only large groups can book (I don't know the minimum number), via a phone number. If not go there and hope to be able to pass🤣. So whoever comes first stays. The boat type wants £10 return only cash, while the minibus costs £15 and can be paid by card. It all takes 3 hours, 1 hour to go by bus, 1 hour to the lighthouse, and 1 to return. The boat trip takes 5 minutes. Once you cross the Kyle of Durness by boat, the journey (of hope) starts with the van (a bit dated) in the wilderness via a dirt path, there are just a couple of cottages belonging to the army. There are amazing views along the way! Once you get to the lighthouse the view is breathtaking! There is a bar run by a girl who lives there all year round (I don’t know how 😂). The bus driver speaks throughout the journey, explaining and telling several things. Unfortunately if you do not have the ear used to their accent it is not easy at all to understand what it says. But it's really worth it!‬

‪I have been visiting Cape Wrath for nearly 40 years now. On my first trip I met a young chap from Fife called Colin who at the time was looking to start a guiding business. On the day we walked from the lighthouse to Kearvaig and cought the bus back from the top of the track. Over the intervening years I have returned from time to time the and the magic of the remote landscape remains as fresh as ever.‬

‪This area of Scotland is so unspoilt and although it takes a little effort to get to the top, the rewards are incredible. Starting with a short boat hop across the water in a boat that holds maybe 8 at the most, the minibus awaits along with Stuart, the driver, the entertainer and knowledgeable guide who makes the hour on the bumpy roads to the lighthouse and back seem like a lot shorter due to his information and general friendliness. We learnt so much about all aspects of this vast area, from the extent of its use by the MOD to the wildlife and plant life and much more. We spent nearly an hour at the top by the lighthouse and enjoyed a hot drink and a bar of chocolate in the Ozone cafe. Lots of sheep running around too. The views were stunning and is well worth it. A fantastic morning!!‬

‪Great walk in from SandWood bay. Ozone cafe made us very welcome as arrived very wet. They provided meals (large portions!) beer and a warm bunkhouse all at very reasonable prices. The fresh water comes from Durness and £3 for a cafeteria of decent coffee is very good value. Given the transport issues I hope the Ozone cafe goes from strength to strength as the owners gradually improve the place working on on solar projects and bunkhouse bathroom projects at present.‬

‪Visited 19Sep2021.
Interesting trip and surprisingly good coffee at the lighthouse. You have to get a wee boat over the Kyle of Durness and then you have 3 options a decrepit old mini bus, walking or cycling to get to the light house 11 miles away. It is probably too far to walk and the whole place is a firing range! The road is pretty broken up so your bike would need to be at least a gravel bike.
The light house is interesting enough and there were light refreshments when I visited e.g. tea/coffee and cake or biscuits. The coffee was pretty good. When I visited there was a lot of helicopter action to resupply the place which was quite exciting.
The bus driver was a real hoot with lots of stories but who knows he may have moved on by now?
I enjoyed it but not to the extent that I would go again but it is definitely a sort of tick in the box thing to do before you die.
I also learnt the meaning of Cape Wrath but I'll not spoil it for you......‬

‪Scotland, known for its rugged landscapes and breathtaking vistas, offers hikers an experience like no other. Among the numerous trails weaving through its scenic terrain, the Cape Wrath Trail stands out as a challenging yet immensely rewarding adventure for those seeking raw, unspoiled wilderness.

Stretching approximately 230 miles from Fort William to the remote Cape Wrath, this trail traverses some of Scotland’s most untamed and diverse landscapes. The journey isn’t for the faint-hearted; it demands a high level of physical fitness, navigation skills, and a deep appreciation for the raw beauty of the outdoors.

What makes the Cape Wrath Trail truly unique is its untouched nature. Unlike more popular trails, it’s not heavily marked or maintained, adding an element of uncertainty and adventure. Hikers can expect to encounter a wide range of terrains, from vast moors to towering mountains, river crossings, and boggy sections that require careful navigation and sturdy footwear.

The trail isn’t just about the physical challenge; it’s a spiritual journey through Scotland’s soul-stirring landscapes. Imagine waking up to misty valleys, traversing through ancient forests, and witnessing the sun setting over remote lochs. Each step is an opportunity to connect with nature in its purest form.‬
