Beware of potholes on the A896 especially at the western end of the glen. I managed to wreck a tyre there last week and it's a pretty remote place to get stuck and there's no phone signal.
Thanks a lot, @highlandcouncil and SNP. Too busy with nit picking about 20mph speed limits to be concerned with the state of the roads, no doubt.

This really is the best campsite with amazing views all around. Facilities are top notch and family run, you get a great welcome with lots of info about the local area. Cannot wait to go back.

Nice, bright day made the walk and scenery stand out.
Stopped at a small cafe and local artist located in Torridon.

Beautiful little village, a haven of peace and tranquillity at the time we visited, loved it. Stunning scenery, and just sitting on the loch shore was the ideal way to relax.

Everyone should experience driving through Torridon, Kinlochewe through to Shieldaig. It never fails to stun in whatever weather.

Glen Torridon has to be one of my favourite roads, period! The mountains are truly majestic in the literal sense, and it is hard not to appreciate the scenery.
The A698 section between Kinlochewe and Lochcarron shouldn't tmissed, although if you're in the area and have the time, it's well worth the trouble turning off at the Apecros road end and following the coast road via Klanakil round to Applecross, there are wonderful views of the Culin and Troternish Ridge right round to Harris on the Long Isle.
It would be rude not to complete your journey without a trip along the old driver's road Ballach na Ba (pass of the cattle) before rejoining the 698 again.
The journey is only slightly marred by the excessive presence of the ubiquitous "camper vans" which seem to dominate the NC500 these days.
Driving tip - if you have someone on your tail for a couple of miles, *please* do the honourable thing and pull over (or stop alongside) a passing place and flash your indicator Left, this let's anyone in a hurry that you're happy to let them past! (You don't need the passing ace to be on "your" side of the road!) If you get your timing right, you won't even have to stop!
The roads are popular with motorcyclists as well, a lot are happy to squeeze down the side of your car, but bear in mind a lot of the big BMWs are about the size of a cow, and weigh just as much, so this isn't always an option (I speak from experience, from both a rider and driver!) - please give them space, and offer them the same room you would a car!
No matter what the weather, this is always a truly spectacular run (OK, thick fog isn't great) but don't let the odd rain shower put you off, it only adds to the experience and adds to the atmosphere!
Precious few "visitor centres" occasional galleries with adjoining coffee shops, one or two " interpretation boards", but in reality, take a flask, go to the loo before you set out, or be prepared to go behind one of the occasional bushes en route.
Allow an average speed of around 35mph, you can drive faster but to do so would e tirely miss the point of ting this road!

Strade con un panorama davvero bellissimo, tra monti, ruscelli, laghetti ed una vegetazione selvaggia sferzata da vento e pioggia. E poi tanti animali !!!

...particularly the Lake Torridon end. A number of parking (as opposed to passing) places along the one track road and walks of all levels. Remember this is remote though so if necessary put some petrol in your tank in Kinlochewe as there is not another station for at least 30 miles

Truly awesome glen and lochs, mountains and fauna, wildlife and local people! Good place to visit is the National Trust info centre at the village of Torridon. Tiny place but stuffed full of amazing artefacts to interest adults and children plus two stunning films about the area. I bought a book on the geology of the area which proved invaluable for our whole Highlands tour. My wife is on a mobility scooter and there is a super trail past the deer centre, along the loch edge and back through the village (with an excellent cafe en route!). So everyone can enjoy Glen Torridon, not just keen climbers.
