The aquarium is closed at the moment and due for a rebuild but professor plankton was still on site in the Harbour Building offering a truly educational experience.
He showed us microscopic plankton under a microscope and my mind was blown..I immediately ordered books online to read more. I am just fascinated in this part of our world I knew little about.
Thank you for taking the time to educate us Professor Plankton. It made my day

This is a small local aquarium so do not expect a Sea Life Centre. The displays are fish found locally. They are returned to the sea 4 weeks after being on display. There is a variety to see and probably most enjoyed by children and provides an educational experience. Mostly it consists of crab lobster starfish and sea urchin it's best to take your time and read the information provided. It's not huge but you could spend an hour or so there or breeze through in ten minutes and think it was expensive. I am glad we went.

Europes first catch and release aquarium, it has local marine life. Crabs, starfish, clams, eels, lobsters, small fish, even an octopus when we went. Very knowledgeable and informative staff. Well worth a visit.

What an amazing little place. They collect sea creatures from around Tobermory, that fishermen find in their nets, exhibit them (and feed them) for 4 weeks and then release them back into the sea. The staff are knowledgeable and take great care of the critters. Only a small place but well worth a visit. Loved it!

For a teeny little aquarium, this place has a great selection of local species to look at. The staff are super knowledgable and were patiently answering my son’s endless questions!! The touch pool (with creatures kept for a humanely short time as residents) is a huge hit, and despite us having visited the aquarium on previous visits as well, my son is desperate for another trip! The octopus was a particular favourite but the lobsters and langoustine also very intriguing. Absolutely worth a visit, especially if you have small kids (but even if you dont)!

Yes, it is small! Aside from the touch pool and “Professor Plankton” and his Petri dish of seawater, there are only say half a dozen other tanks and some info boards. But what they do have is great! It’s a fantastic way to learn about the local sea creatures. The touch pool session was really good, and I spent ages learning about the tiny creatures in the plankton. The price of £6.50 for adults is perfectly reasonable given the size. The bigger aquariums have a lot more to see and do but they cost a fortune to visit.

A little gem of a place focusing on local marine life, with dozens of species represented. The flatfish, rock pool fish, the Sea Hair and the Butterfish were particularly fascinating, as were the Langoustines, possibly the first time I've seen these fascinating creatures alive and not prepared as food. The lady who led the talks was brilliant. It's not huge, but for six quid you can't go wrong, and it inspired me to go Snorkeling in Mull, and see some of the creatures in the wild. Lovely stuff. Warmly recommended.

Fascinating, and they do some excellent conservation work. The staff are knowledgeable. It really helps to understand the locality.

I read the reviews prior to visit but had unexpected spare time so with quite low expectations decided to visit. & yes if you walk in pay, rush round the snall aquarium I would agree with others that this is not value for money, however if you take time to read the information, speak to Professor Plankton & join in you will be very impressed as to what this little gem has to offer. Professor Plankton thank you for taking the time to educate us, truly educational

This tiny aquarium is really lovely. All the specimens are caught locally, kept in well maintained tanks for a few weeks, then released back into the wild. They have lots of local marine wildlife like crabs, langoustines, lobsters, scallops, mussels, urchins… A fascinating place and well worth the visit. It was really good to see such a wonderful display of local sea life. And a great idea for a rainy day in Mull.
