During a week's birdwatching in the Highlands, it was a joy to sit back and be driver-guided by David for an afternoon's safari on the beautiful Glenlivet Estate. Highlight was watching and listening to the lapwing as they tumble and spin through the air during their nesting season on the braes.

David gave us a fantastic wildlife safari under the Ladder Hills at short notice (we booked about 4 hours before!) and in challenging conditions (1 foot of snow). A truly knowledgeable gentleman with a good sense of humour and genuine love for the area. We were enthused by the safari, part in 4 x 4, part snow adventure on foot! I won't embarrass myself with many pictures of mountain hares (they are quite fast) but will post some of the general scenery. Topped off with a well earned hot tea at the end too! Would heartily recommend to anyone! Bring good footwear and the best telephoto lens you can get your paws on! Also- this is excellent value for money. Thank you David!

Our tour with David was the perfect after Christmas outing. He took the 4 of us off road along rough tracks to The Scalan and onto the Ladder Hills. It was great walking across the mountain with David as a guide. He pointed out so many things we would never have spotted including the wonderfully white mountain hare. He was so informative and amusing. We saw red grouse, mountain hare, roe deer and buzzards. We were also told the history and the geography of the area. It was a great way of spending an afternoon in the late December sunshine. But make sure you wear your walking boots and wrap up warm. Thanks David.

We had a great tour through the Glenlivet Estate (which is partly in the Cairngorms national park) with our very knowledgeable and funny host. He learned us a lot about the history of the area, about plants growing there (including edible plants, like wild Scottish thyme) and about wildlife in the area. We have amongst others spotted red deer, roe deer, pheasants, brown hare, mountain hare and buzzards. The tour also provided us with some stunning views of the area, even being able to see mountains that were 100KM away. Also, the offroad driving parts were a lot of fun! Our tour was suitable for adults and for families with children from about 8-10 years old I would say, but tours differ a bit per time of the year, as each period brings its own specific points of interest. Definitely recommend the tour!

Wir übernachteten 3 Nächte im wundervollen "The Mill" - Easter Corrie. Wunderschönes Haus mit unbeschreiblich tollem Ausblick. Mit 5* Bewertung durch mich bewertet. Top Preis - Leistung. Alles da, was das Herz begehrt.
Im Rahmen dieses Aufenthaltes wurden wir auf die angebotene Wildlife Safari durch den Host David aufmerksam.
Da wir die Speyside wunderschön fanden und auch schon viel gewandert sind, entschieden wir uns als Gruppe von 5 Freunden, mit einem Einheimischen noch die Safari zu buchen.
David holte uns dann bei der Glenlivet Distillerie auf unseren Wunsch hin ab. Anschließend fuhr er mit uns 3,5 Stunden in Schrittgeschwindigkeit durch die Prärie und zeigte uns verschiedene Vögel, sowie weitere heimische Tiere.
Im Laufe der Tour gab es auch noch eine kleine Pause mit Tee / Kaffee und Shortbread.
Alles in allem eine ganz Interessante Tour, vor allem um das Land und seine Natur besser kennen zu lernen.
ABER: Bei einem Preis von 39 Pfund pro Person (David hat mit uns 5 letztendlich 195 Pfund verdient, dafür, dass er uns 3,5 Stunden mit seinem alten Landrover durch die Gegend gefahren hat) einfach viel zu teuer. Das ist ein Stundenlohn von Rund 56 Pfund.
Bei einem Gesamtpreis von 100 Pfund bzw in unserem Fall dann 20 Pfund pro Person wäre Preis - Leistung top gewesen.
Tipp für David : Nicht pro Person berechnen, sondern einen Gesamtpreis für die Fahrt. Weil die Kosten und der Zeitaufwand ist immer das Gleiche, egal, ob 1 oder 8 Personen mitfahren.

I was sorry to hear that you thought our tours were overpriced. As far as I am aware we run the most keenly priced, half day, off road tours for small groups in the north of Scotland.
As to £56 per hour. The reality is somewhere a little short of £10 per hour at the end of the season after the land rover, fuel, insurance, maintenance, estate fees and other costs are paid for. But being able to share our stunning landscapes and wildlife with visitors to this beautiful area really does make it all worthwhile.

David is very knowledgeable and a real fun guide. We took a jeep into the area and learned about our surroundings, the plants and animals. We each got binoculars and watched birds and deers and it was a real fun experience. The price is very reasonable and included warm refreshments and a story or two as well. Thank you David for a lovely afternoon.

What a great trip, off road in a long wheel base Land Rover on tracks, over high moorland and across the River Livet. David's knowledge of flora, fauna, the community, the area and its history made the four and a bit hours just fly by (great value). David's expertise allowed us to be in the right place at the right time to get to see some amazing natural views of the Red Deer, stonechat, brown hare amongst others.

Excellent trip up into the ladder hills. David was very informative and thankfully managed to spot the Hare well before we did! We also saw grouse and a variety of other birds. Bit of a trek up the hill but well worth it! If we're back in the area we'll definitely be booking onto one of the other trips.

This was without a doubt the best thing to do whilst visiting the highlands. David is super nice and knows everything about the flora and fauna of the Highlands. He is very good in transferring information about the wildlife. He also has eagle eyes because he spots something from a very large distance. We did not have binoculars with us but fortunately he had one for every guest. David is also an excellent landrover driver. Off road and through muddy and almost not there paths, he drove them with much experience and you never once felt scared. The kids said that this was even more nice than a rollercoaster riding through the muddy and bumpy road. It was so superb that I am considering to return in winter time just to see the white hares. David if you are reading this: it is so good that you decided to do what you really love: nature because the way you transfer your knowledge makes flora and fauna appealing for everybody.

We had already been out with David twice and once again this trip ticked all the boxes. I was unwell on the date planned so we re-arranged and found we were the only two booked that afternoon. Given that there were only two of us and it was pouring with rain we would have understood if he had cancelled. However, remembering we had been before and that we are keen photographers, he asked us what we would like to see and we spent the afternoon spotting our hit list.
We finished the day with a brown hare in the shade of a grassy knoll, totally unconcerned about us and ŵe reeled off many shots, and then as we turned on to the village green, one was feeding again, oblivious to our excitement. David!s knowledge of the flora and fauna, and thus time, astronomy, seems boundless as does his enthusiasm because you really have to love your job to drive a jeep for four hours in torrential rain, answer endless questions whilst spotting grouse, sandpipers and even a mountain hare scooting up the hill. Great job, David. See you next time.
