A really lovely spot for a picnic. Several routes to go up. Gets a little steep in places but nothing that would worry most people. It’s a short climb but well worth it for the views. Stunning. Walked back across the top of the hills which was lovely too looking down on Glam Clova. Only thing I would have liked is an info board with some pictures of the inside of the monument as you can’t get in to have a look. However the views were stunning.

Lovely walk, mostly uphill but not too steep. Plenty of parts to explore around the monument but the walk from the car park to the monument is only around 30mins. The car park isn’t very big so would advise visiting in the morning when it is quieter. Lovely views from the top of the monument and the surrounding area.

The walk we did today was tiring as we walked up to the Airlie Monument and then past it in a circular route. The views from the monument were superb and the scenery along the walk was diverse but very photogenic.

The walk to the monument was manageable for all ages. Our group ranged from 3 years old to 65.
The 360degree view from the top was tremendous with far-reaching views to the coast and across the mountains.
We all enjoyed the afternoon

This is a fairly leisurely short walk, with a few steeper gradients here and there but it's worth the trip for the views from the top by the monument, looking across Glen Clova, Glen Prosen and south towards Kirriemuir and Forfar.
We went up from Dykehead and the initial forestry paths and tracks aren't particularly great at the moment as they have been felling and there's also a few trees that have blown over blocking paths. We returned down on the Glen Prosen side of the forest and this was really lovely, very peaceful.
It's worth also extending your walk to take in the South River Esk walk that includes a glorious riverside walk through mature trees and beautiful rhododendrons near Cortachy.

Not too strenuous a walk takes you up to a marvellous viewpoint overlooking Glen Prosen and Glen Clova, and the nearby town of Kirriemuir.

There seems to be two walks to this. There is a longer circular one or the one we took from the Scott-Wilson monument. Some parts of the path are a bit steep but also plenty of level bits to catch your breath. Mainly through the trees the path it is easy to follow. The monument itself is quite impressive but is not open to the public. Took us about 20 minutes to climb to the top from the small carpark. Also a lovely run through the countryside to get there.

The monument is a gothic sandstone tower to a soldier of the Afghan and Boer wars. It is in disrepair and you cannot climb or enter it. The tower has some regimental markings on the walls and a plaque to this Army Officer.
There is a carpark almost opposite the memorial to Scott and Wilson the polar explorers. The climb of about 800 feet - to a summit of 1200 - leads through the pine forest - it is rough under foot and steep in places. A pleasant way to spend an hour.

Whilst having a mini tour around Angus last Saturday (4th August 2018), we decided to pay a visit to Airlie Monument.
Intending first time visitors scrolling through the attractions listed in Kirriemuir might benefit from knowing that Airlie Monument is actually a 15 minute, 7 mile drive from the centre of Kirriemuir. Airlie Monument is in the lower reaches of Glen Clova and Glen Prosen, sited on Tulloch Hill between the two.
The monument is a memorial to the ninth Earl of Airlie who died in the Boer war.
Once you arrive, there is a car park just a few yards in from the main road. We would recommend driving up and down to the car park with extreme caution as there is a good risk of grounding your vehicle otherwise.
A fairly wide, winding, zig-zagging path, which is a steady climb, but does ease off at times, takes you up to Airlie Monument. We estimated the walk to be around a mile each way, so allow adequate time.
There is no access to the monument, which was in a state of disrepair during our visit. However, it was nice to see it close up. Visibility was fairly good during our visit which made for some very scenic views.
All in all, an enjoyable experience.

Wow! Does the castle have an open day? Or is it possible to sign out a key? I would love to get a view from the top of the tower.
