Stayed at Merchants House for a long weekend to celebrate a family members birthday. The two floors where we stayed above the museum, were spacious and had everything you could need for an enjoyable stay. The house is very quirky and boasts great views over the harbour. Unfortunately the museum was closed during our stay, so can’t comment on this. As the weather was good we were able to get out for long walks,fish and chips and ice-cream. A lovely characterful house and would definitely recommend it if your looking for something different.

Amazing weekend. Everything we needed was at hand. 4 adults and 6 children under 5. Thank you again for the best weekend. We will be back.

It is an imposing and interesting house but we were disappointed by the fact that although it extends over several floors only the lower floors were open. There are also several exhibits which are difficult to see either because the lighting is poor or bulbs are out. We did mention this to the attendant as we were leaving.

What a super place to learn about smuggling in the area. Worth crossing wee red bridge for. My sister and I both over 55 years old enjoyed completing the children's activities. Breaking codes, finding rats and searching for the secret places smuggled goods were stored was great.
Well worth a visit.

I can highly recommend Gunsgreen House, the staff were lovely... really friendly and helpful. The museum was a lot of fun and we learned so much while there, it's also stunningly beautiful. If you find yourself in Eyemouth do yourself a favour and check it out, you won't regret it!

Spontaneous went in having strolled around Eyemouth and weather sadly was a little overcast. As a mature couple with no children pleasantly enjoyed learning about the smuggling along the coast back in the day. Was an enjoyable 90mins

Interesting info on smuggling in the um. Interactive for younger kids. Worth a visit but it won’t take any more than 40mins to an hour unless you read every word and press every button!

We booked a private tour of the Museum and were very glad we had done as the weather was atrocious! My five year old son loved the interactive activities and we all found out some interesting facts about Eyemouth and the smugglers! The staff were very friendly and helpful, too.

So we’ve had a lovely stay in Guns Green yet again for the 6th time as we started coming here since 2010 and it’s always lovely. Mega shame about the bridge however over all good, however we wanted to stay over an hour to watch the rugby on the day we had to leave, we had to be out at 10 which we didn’t think would be much of a problem, the cleaners came in at 10 and they said it’s not a problem and they started cleaning upstairs. At 11 a man came storming in banging his feet screaming at us telling us we can never return, to be honest it was so childish how he acted and just weird, we tried to contact him twice in the week to ask but as previous years we were never rushed out like that. I can’t believe how the man acted but apparently he retires in three weeks so let’s hope a nicer person takes over.
He even turned the electric off to get us out after screaming at us, great approach but it’ll be nice once he’s left, Big up to the Previous manger of the house Derick!!

Many thanks for your review and we appreciate that you have been coming to Gunsgreen House for a long number of years. The Manager, for the past 7 years, was called in by the Housekeeping team as the guest said they had an agreement with the Manager for a late check out to watch the Rugby on TV, which the Housekeepers were unaware of. As the house had to be ready for 4:00pm this placed considerable strain on the Housekeeping Team. Although all guests have office and out of hours contact details, no request for a late check out was received. When the Manger arrived at the house his request for the guests to leave was ignored and they continued watching the Rugby. To give the Housekeepers access to the house procedures were followed to turn off the TV allowing the Housekeepers to proceed with the preparation of the house. Gunsgreen House is a Grade A listed Georgian Mansion of significant historic interests ideal for groups of friends and families. The majority of our guests respect the house and its furnishings and are welcomed back.

Stunning building with a fascinating history. My 12 year old loved it and it was well worth a visit on a rainy day. It was a shame the top floor was closed to visitors, but that didn't detract from hearing about the story of the smugglers and the history of the area which is all very well presented. Great kids activity pack and secret hidey holes to find. Only downside was no coffee shop - but we found a fantastic ice-cream parlour across the road!
