An off season visit in early September. Stranraer is a pretty town with lots of interesting attractions in the area. There are several nice restaurants (Henry’s Bay, Papa Rab’s, Fig and Olive) but the two big chippies were barely average - fish ok, soggy chips. The harbour and waterfront were interesting, people were very friendly and helpful.
The big downside was the noise at night on the harbour front road. Kids speeding in fast noisy cars, loud music and drunk and loud adults playing the drums on a bottle bank at 2 in the morning - all whilst the police sat in their warm offices doing nothing. Shame.

Big free carpark next to Agnew Park. You can wonder around harbour freely and see lots of boats. Nice views

Harbour Lights is a small family run guest house with ample free parking and adjacent to the central park with a lake and a miniature railway. Five minutes walk to the shops. Everything is clean and comfortable and the breakfast is freshly cooked to order to avoid wastage. It is delicious. I have no hesitation in recommending Harbour Lights.

Staying locally on holiday so walked round it a few times. Very tranquil with nice views. Lots of small boats. No real facilities but free parking and close to town centre .

To say this was underwhelming is an understatement. We came here solely on what TripHobo said! Up coming harbour tourist town is not what this place is. We came on the height of summer and it has the feel of a deserted town. Public toilets locked up in the middle of the day! Cafes closed. A harbour!!! Well that too was deserted.
A complete waste of a 90 minute journey and a waste of fuel!

I understand that since all ferry movements from Scotland to Northern Ireland transferred to the purpose built ferry terminal at Cairnryan that Stranraer Harbour has been in a bit of a decline.
We were staying for a few nights at the Harbour Lights B & B immediately across the road from a portion of the harbour and it afforded somewhere to go to for a bit of a walk. Really not much happening but hopefully things will improve in the future.

We strolled around the harbour on the waterside path after eating in town. It's pleasant enough, watching the few boats that were in, but nothing spectacular. Some nice views across the Loch.

Very narrow pavements, Charity shops. Had a horrible smell to the place. Think it was coming from the shop bin. Traffic ridiculous, same cars going round and round the one way system. Drivers and occupants clearly don't have anything better to do.
One of our group is in a wheelchair chair. Absolutely nowhere to go to use a bathroom. Not restaurants or tescos. Had to ask couple of police officers who thankfully let is use the police Station.

I put average as it is average for a harbour, but as I generally like them I'd give it four stars rated against some other things. Make sense?!
You can sit and watch the activity around you, and watch the ferries that come in and out just across the water. Just a nice place to spend a bit of time being still and letting the world move around you!
