‪If you’re not pressed for time and enjoy scenery, exiting the A55 Expressway at junction 22 [Old Colwyn] and heading toward the sea, then west along the promenade is a lovely scenic alternative route to Llandudno via Colwyn Bay, Rhos on Sea, Penrhyn Bay and Penrhynside onto the promenade at Llandudno.

There are lovely beaches with parking spaces, seating, cafes and restaurants along the way including Porth Eirias which houses Chef Bryn Williams’ restaurant and water sport hire facilities.

Shortly after Porth Eirias, is the recently erected replacement Colwyn Bay pier built on the same site as the old pier that fell into disrepair.

Definitely worth the detour.‬

‪Travelling from Old Colwyn to Llandudno is easy just stick to the coast road. Leave the A55 at junction 22 turn right towards the prom then left at the t junction when facing the sea. The road is a 30 mph and passes many many sea facing car parking spaces. Some areas have parking meters some not. There is a fabulous beach, a celebrity chef restaurant, water sports centre, pier project, new cafe all overlooking the sea all before you get to Rhos in Sea. Rhos on Sea has lots to offer, lovely shops, plenty of cafes a pub, crazy golf and a popular playground all nestled in a picturesque small harbour. Carry on to Penrhyn Bay - past a scecluded beach and a handy co op, takeaways and useful shops and head up the little Orm passing the Premier Inn to reveal stunning views of Llandudno pier and the Great Orme. As you descend into the town past the paddling pool, new life boat station and numerous bed and breakfast establishments, you only begin to see what Llandudno has to offer. Has to be Wales number one seaside destination and certainly one of its most beautiful.‬

‪Hubby and I are frequent visitors to Llandudno where we like to walk along the pier and the prom. Recently, we drove from there to neighbouring Rhos-on-Sea where we stopped to walk along the habour. From there, we drove to Colwyn Bay, parked up and walked along the bay and then around the town.‬

‪There's nothing better than sauntering along the seafront from Colwyn Bay to the Victorian characterful splendour of Llandudno either by car or on foot. It's all by the sea and so provides a pretty backdrop to any walks et al that you'd care to take.‬

‪We visited Colwyn Bay over the New Year. We often drive along the A55 and see the signs to Colwyn Bay, and the Morrisons store, and then we drive on and go to Llandudno, or beyond. But this time we stopped, and stayed there for 4 nights which gave us the opportunity to explore a little. From the main road you can't see any of the resort; only the sea is visible on the coast side. But once you come off the A55 you have access to this resort.
We took the opportunity to walk west towards Llandudno. This was mostly along the promenade, but we also went up the Little Orme. This all forms part of the Wales coastal path.
To the east on the promenade is a new(ish) watersports centre. It seems that this part of the promenade has been regenerated lately.‬

‪I like using this route quite regularly on my bike, nice and peaceful, views are good and not too much need to stop in the way of traffic lights etc. Enough of a little challenge (Little Orme), quite good and safe for burning a few calories on the bike. One of my favs to gauge my fitness levels etc is cycling from one pier (CB) to the other pier (Llandudno).‬

‪Colwyn Bay sits just two bays to the East of Llandudno. It’s much wider and longer than Llandudno Bay and quieter as there is not as much activity on the waterfront.
It has a famous old Pier which sadly is now badly deteriorated and I wonder whether it will be ever go back to its glory days.

If you’re driving through the area you can’t miss it as the North Wales Expressway runs right along the Bay, with the Promenade accessible by a single lane road that runs along right next the beach. Lots of parking.

Popular with people walking their dogs and it’s a great place to run or let the kids loose! A nice long bay for biking and jogging without much vehicular traffic.

The Western part of the bay closer to the harbour is more developed with a few cafes and pubs but the eastern part of the bay is largely undeveloped. The harbour is very pretty and picturesque when the tide is out with the little boats sitting upon the sand.

It would be nice if the Bay could be further developed as it’s a lovely place to visit and could be a wonderful seaside destination if it were a little more vibrant and with more amenities, entertainment and activities.‬

‪Colwyn Bay used to be the jewel of the North Wales coast, until amalgamation of counties just to create more seats in the government , hit C Bay very hard, now being under Conwy council Colwyn Bay was forced to lose its identity, and became the poor relation, everything became focused on Conwy and more so on Llandudno, so much so the Conwy council striped all the flower beds in Colwyn Bay to replant in Llandudno so it could win the wales in bloom award.

Colwyn is now on the way back with upgraded sea front, unlike Llandudno's pebble beach front with all the benches full of white heads, it has now become geriatric city.

Colwyn Bay is become the pride of North Wales again with the exception of the pier, councils can't get the funding for the revamp .

The Bay is central on the coast and within short drives to all the must see mountains, valleys, as well as being the most populated area for castles in the world, it will blow your mind finding all the nooks and crannies of this land of wonder.‬
