Visited the furnace and it's lovely waterfall. Beautiful. Also did the circular walk starting at Artists Valley, which is also beautiful. Stunning views of the Dyfi estuary at its highest point. Definitely worth it.

It would be easy to drive by and think that is interesting but I encourage all to stop. There is a car park down the lane across the road, so a short walk back.
This site is self guided, free and open 24/7.
The complete water wheel and good ,but minimal, signs gave a complete description of how a charcoal iron smelting furnace worked. A great stop before visiting Ironbridge Gorge and the Coaldalebrook Museum.

The falls were beautiful and well worth a stop to admire. I even ventured into the river to get a nice shot of the falls.
Car park was excellent and just a short walk from the Furnace and falls.
Interesting place to examine as well.

Great waterfall and interesting place to visit when passing. Parking across busy road but plenty of spaces and places for picnics etc

It’s not a massive place and it can be done in such a short amount of time but it was pretty amazing.
It’s perfect for a little stop to stretch your legs.

We drove past this a couple of times until i noticed the car park down a track. The water wheel caught by eye first and then the waterfall. the Car park is free and its around 50m walk back to the main road where you cross the road to get to the furnace. unfortunately, the interactive components were not working, and it seemed a little forgotten about, but this could be due to visiting in October. this place has so much potential!
its still worth a stop off and read of the info boards for information on the operations of the furnace. the waterfall is a hidden Jem and was amazing when we went as it had been raining for the past few days! would recommend if looking for a leg stretch or quick stop off when passing.

In a scenic spot, a few miles south of Machynlleth is the Dyfi Furnace. Its one of the best preserved buildings of its kind in the country. In the 1750s wood was turned into charcoal and then water power used to make Iron. We think of industrial Wales being confined to the north and south of the country - but there was a lot going on in Mid Wales then too. Its located on the river Einion, with a waterfall that us usually pretty but can look impressive after heavy rains. It only takes half an hour to look around. There are informative boards that explain how the site worked. And look out for birds - including dippers and grey wagtails in the river.

What a wonderful find!
Well worth a stop. Very interesting piece of Welsh history. To think the ore was carried by boat and river from Cumbria to be smelted in a furnace in Wales. It takes about half an hour to see the whole place. Considering it was built over 260 years ago, it's in remarkable condition, The waterfall is beautiful. It's now occupied by a species of protected Welsh bats.

We stopped here to look round as we were staying nearby, it's beautiful and well worth the stop. It had rained heavily the night before and the waterfall was spectacular, Great photo opportunities.
