‪Wow. Where do I start? As a former young person who left 5 years ago, I decided to go with my niece and nephew and their mum yesterday to be greeted by a entrance fee what in the actual ?? We decided to go in anyway because surely the place couldn’t get worse from when I was in pru Bob and Ethel would be literally disgusted, can’t even use covid as an excuse because a five minute look on Google shows the amount the farm receives a year and over the previous years..which shows there is absolute no reason other than someone wanting more money for That is appalling.
Now onto the animals, or lack of really, to be honestly although there isn’t much of a range of animals still the same from 5 years ago you can tell the animal care workers do their best with what they can and they should be proud of themselves. The new ferret cage is amazing! Milly the pig looks so good now but lonely bless her
The place needs a complete and utter revamp, including whoevs is in charge, concentrating on all the animal areas and getting b animals instead of unnecessary shops which wasn’t even opened at the top of the car park and a welcome shelter.
The cafe hasn’t changed one bit, still the lovely atmosphere as always.
Won’t be visiting the farm again that’s for sure. Could be turned back into that lovely place that was the heart of Barry for those that needed it all those years ago, cost of living goes up and prices are added and expensive? The place isn’t even worth the entrance fee‬

Hello, Amelia Trust is a small charity, Care Farm and nature reserve, that receives no statutory funding. The money we receive from ticket sales goes back into helping us run the GROW programme for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, look after our animals, and keep our Care Farm open for our visitors to enjoy. Our entrance costs are as low as possible to help us continue our charitable work. We are glad you enjoyed seeing the ferrets and Milly. We have over 20 different species of animals on site, including donkeys, ponies, pigs, goats, alpacas, rhea, birds, reptiles, small animals and more. We hope you managed to enjoy exploring the woodland, seeing the animals, the outdoor park, and the seasonal trail.

‪Visited yesterday with My 3 children.
I was firstly surprised by the new entry fee, (arouns £17 for the 4 of us)
The lady on the front told me they had lots of new animals and things to do, and have the kids a treasure hunt style map to find different things in the woodland area.
Firstly, we saw more animals on the drive here. We saw a tortoise. Some goats which were in the middle of a field, a cat and some rabbits. Where are all the other animals??? Even the staff shrugged when I asked where all these 20+ species were hiding!!!
Secondly the treasure style hunt the kids were given to follow in the forest was useless. Was impossible to complete because lots of the things we were suppose to find were missing or damaged.
We had a picnic and a nice short walk through the woods...but these are all things I could have done for free elsewhere.
We won't be visiting again. We were warned it had gone very boring before we visited however I really didn't expect what I saw.

If you're looking for a real farm try Warren Mill or some of the small Cardiff ones. Or just park up somewhere along the a48 and picnic there because you'll find more wildlife and animals there!!!‬

‪This place is very disapointing. There are not many animals to see, no donkeys, the cafe very dated, the cups were stained and dirty, definately wouldn't recommend, it's a cheap day out for the family, the kids enjoyed the play area. Picture of the cups attached.‬

‪To be completely honest, this place was quite a disappointment. The animals look sad as they're enclosures are a tight squeeze, but that's for the animals that are ACTUALLY there, we walked around for an hour looking for the different animals and only physically saw about 1/3 of them. On a positive note, the gnome trail was beautiful and accessible for all ages and and it's wheelchair/pushchair friendly. The paths are full of activities, but the pond is overgrown and the bird hide is practically useless as the whole area is so untamed that any birds that ARE there wouldn't be seen anyway.‬

‪Overall farm was really good, however the experience was ruined by an aggressive server at the restaurant.

I observed a server called Isabella rudely confront a young breastfeeding mother. From what I saw it was completely unprovoked and resulted in he young woman being asked to leave.

Management should probably leave an adult in control next time. Probably won’t be coming back because of this.‬

‪Me, my sister and my nephew visited Amelia trust farm this afternoon, we stayed for a total of 30 mins as there were no animals to see apart from 3 sheep and a couple of rabbits despite advertising the farm as having many animals to see, such as tortoises, donkeys, goats, and ‘lots more’. I wish this would have been advertised as a place to go for a woodland walk rather than a farm full of animals, my nephew was left very upset.‬

Hi Ellie, we do have over 20 different species of animals onsite, including Zoom, our tortoise, our donkeys, ponies, alpacas, pigs, goats, degus, and ferrets! Our woodland walks are also lovely, with the Gnome and Fairy trail leading down to the pond. It has been very warm this week, so when you visited, our animals may have been in their houses in the shade to keep themselves cool. As a charity, the money we receive from entrance tickets goes back into helping us run the GROW programme for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, take care of our animals, and keep the Farm open for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for visiting and supporting us.

‪There was no one on the gate when we visited on Easter Sunday, despite buying tickets online so we could have just walked in.

We were extremely disappointed to find out that our 2 goats had died while in the care of the farm, and they failed to let us know when and why each goat died, despite them being in brilliant health on their arrival to the farm.

I was shocked to see that the other goats were in a pen with very little shelter, and one goat which was regularly attacking the smaller goats, while we were there. I was also concerned by the condition of the fur of two of the smaller goats, it was patchy and appeared in a poor condition, the goats faeces were also hanging all over the back of their legs which also indicates a lack of care for the animal.

Hopefully the review of my experience won’t be removed in an attempt to cover up the truth.‬

Hello, This is an edited response following our initial request for you to send us contact details so that we could speak to you directly. As we haven't received your details, we will post our response here: Twin goats, Ben and Jerry were donated to the Farm in November 2018 at the age of 5 years because their owners could no longer care for them. They lived like dogs in kennels, so were trained to walk on leads and enjoy being stroked except on the head or horns. They were severely overweight when they arrived at the Farm and we were advised to try and get their weight down to improve their health. When Jerry died in April 2019, our vet suspected it was something that a member of the public had fed him which was unsuitable in spite of signage at the Farm requesting that our animals are not fed by members of the public. When Ben’s twin died, Ben was tested to see if his twin’s death was something genetic however the results were negative. On 16 February 2021, the vet came to see Ben because we had concerns for his health. The vet administered two injections – vitamin B1 and pain relief and then staff administered further medication as directed by the vet. The vet then came to see Ben again the next day and said that Ben no longer had any quality of life despite the medication which had been given and that the kindest thing to do would be to put him to sleep. Snap developed an allergy to a lice treatment. We had the vet out to do skin scrapes and other tests to determine the cause of the hair loss. Although he looks odd, the vet has assured us that he's not irritated or sore and in no discomfort. The other goats had some hair loss too but not to the same extent. He is the smallest of the 3 brothers and has had ongoing issues with his health but he is not weak or lethargic and staff keep a close eye on him. Our goats get fed once a day when grazing needs to be supplemented such as during cold weather or when there isn't much grazing. They usually have grass nuts or hay when this is needed. Goats are browsers so they get their food from the grass and from enrichment branches. The water trough is cleaned regularly. The water reflects the colour of the bottom of the container in the same way ponds can look brown, green or blue depending on the weather. There is a pipe located in the paddock which is used to fill the trough but it does also naturally get filled by rain too. If you have any further concerns please contact us directly by emailing general@ameliatrust.org.uk.

‪I would rate this a 0 if I could.

Having given 2 goats, Ben and Jerry to the farm previously I thought I would visit with family on Easter Sunday.

We purchased 4 tickets at £5 each (no need though as no one on the door to even check them) in the hope of seeing one of our goats, Jerry.

Unfortunately, Ben passed away quickly after arriving at the farm despite being 100% healthy upon leaving us as we were told that for them to go to the farm we would have to pay for a vet to come out and check them over before hand. The farm didn’t call to let us know that he had passed away and sadly we had to find out on a visit to see them both. We were told that the reason for his death was due to a member of the public feeding him a peanut butter sandwich.

On our first visit to the farm we found both Ben and Jerry to be very dirty (covered in their own faeces and mud) and being kept in very cramped and run down conditions. Once we had discovered that Ben had passed away we were in two minds as to whether we should take Jerry back home but decided against this as we thought he would be lonely.

On my most recent visit I was saddened to find out that Jerry had also passed away and again we were not informed. We had to try and find a member of staff to ask where he was and yet again we were told that he had died after being fed something that he shouldn’t have eaten. This does make you think that maybe there should be more members of staff to police this?!

During my visit I was also disgusted to see the state of the other goats, in particular, Snap. He had barely any fur and was very skinny. His tail was just skin which looked very sore. He seemed very weak and lethargic and while we were there we witnessed another large goat, who was in the same pen as Snap, head butt him to the ground and continue to head butt him while he was laying on the floor crying and unable to get back up.

There was no food in the pen for the goats and just some dirty water which looked like it relied on the rain filling it up.

Something needs to be changed before any other poor animals have to suffer.‬
