‪This beautiful railway station dates from 1885 or so and is in what became known as the 'Casterton style.'

It is fenced off on one side although one could walk along the platform with a bit of effort.

The last train was on 4 February 1977 - sad. A small section of track has been retained at the down end together with a baulk. One semaphore signal - a home - has also been kept.

The historical society occupy the station. One can call for a caretaker to show you around but I did not. They only want a gold coin (A$1 or A$2) donation.

The station building has been recently reroofed as has the goods shed, so I don't understand why the two previous reviewers claimed that the buildings need 'TLC.'

The adjacent proposed Kelpie Centre is under construction and may be open by June 2017.

The railways used to haul livestock and other agricultural products out and bring beer and groceries in at no doubt cheaper rates than today's road hauliers charge, even when adjusted for inflation.‬

‪Wandering here shows you how important the Railway was commercially. The buildings need a lot of TLC and vision - it will come.‬

‪We walked from our accommodation in the hope of visiting this station which houses the museum, but it is by appointment only. Everywhere around looked neglected & we were sorry that the old buildings appeared to be unloved with the exception of Bill's Shed.‬

‪The station and sheds and even white railway crossing gate are in excellent condition for their age, despite that the tracks have been pulled up for decades and It hasn't been used as a station for along time. It is a pity that the station landing itself, is fenced off as although the fence has protected people from falling off the old siding for OHS reasons and perhaps from people misusing the old building, it would makes wonderful site for a movie set or for wedding photos, and could be capitalised on more due to its picturesque location close to highway.‬

‪I'm a little biased bcos I grew up in this part of Victoria, but I think it's one of the prettiest places I've seen (western district). Casterton itself has many great old buildings. It's also famous as the birthplace of the Kelpie. It's worth heading here in June for the Kelpie Muster. Another highlight is about 30 mins away at the Bailey's rock campground. Another little visited site where you can climb over huge green moss covered boulders‬
