Having short visits to all featured stops along coastal drive, this IMHO no.1
Steep, wooden staircase down to bay and beach. A breathtaking scene.
Natural wonder looks like a painting. Rock formations on coast (Eagle Nest to west),
beautiful small bay with quiet waters and rock pools to explore. Kids loved it.
Recommend spending a whole afternoon here.

We stopped here as part of our drive along the coast to Cape Patterson. It's a small secluded bay and would be ideal for small children.

Continuing along my drive on the Bunurong Coastal Drive... from Inverloch to Cape Paterson ... the third stop I encountered was Shack Bay. The carpark area has a reasonable amount of carparks... not as many as Eagle's Nest, nor are they as modern as Eagle's Nest. There is a lookout to the right as you face the beach . You will not see much from the carpark. The lookout doesn't really give you the best view either... it's halfway along that point that you can see more. This is a beautiful bay.
Shack Bay got its name from the miners shacks built there during their five month long strike in 1934. They were removed in 1977.
These days it's a stunning bay to visit ... it has quite a lot of stairs so you would need a reasonable level of fitness to access and enjoy this beach.

One of many beautiful spots along this stretch of road.
Steep stairs but good railings on either side.
Stop to take a picture from the bench or continue walking down to beach.
Features excellent rockpools

Wouldn't mind a nice picnic here. The stairs are steep but coming down it's like your own private beach. When the tide is out, it's a great place to look in rockpools and collect some pretty unique shells.

Super view from the advantage points. The coastline is nothing short of sensational. The beach is also a real picture and of course a surfers paradise. The area is beautifully landscaped and parking is ample . Highly recommend this off road stopover.

A fabulous coast line. Every stop along this part of the coast is well worth stopping for, even though it was extremely windy on the day we were there.

Visited on Sunday 25th February. What a hidden gem, something we didn't expect to see when we went for a drive along this coastal road. Pity we didn't have more time to go down the stairs onto the beach and check out the rock pools. Recommend you allow time to do this when you visit.

This place means so much to me. I always felt amazing here. My Grandfather would clear out a rock pool for me but leave a few cute little fishes for me. Taught me what a Blue Ring Octopus looked like. I have not been there for a long time but this place is special

Today wasn't just any day. 😃 It was picnic "date" day and Shack Bay just never disappoints. Despite the chilly but sunny day, it was still perfect. The beach is small relatively private, secluded and a little piece of heaven .... as always. As you head down the steps through the tea trees the view of the beach, rock cliffs and on the horizon Wilsons Promontory materialize with the magic of David Copperfield. At high tide the waves pounds the rocks spraying almost as high as the cliff walls that surround the beach. At low tide a plethora of rockpools and Paleozic rock formations appear, entertaining kids and adults alike. Explore right around the western headland and the wind blowing off the ocean reminds you exactly where you are ... in the path of a southerly directly off Bass Strait. Half the joy of this well hidden spot is the climatic extremes that shape it ..... winter or summer its a spot you can explore time and time again. My only words of advice are bring a BIG blanket, a portable sun shade and don't forget anything from your boot.
