Love this place as there is so much to see and do, fabulous walks lots of history close to reservoir which had additional walks , fantastic panoramic views from the pike apparently on a clear day you can see as far as Blackpool tower,

Went upto the pike for the first time but regrettably weather was misty so no chance to see the views. Didn't realise how many steps you had to climb to reach the summit. Enjoyed the walk coming in from Bolton side of winter hill

Parked at the Pigeon Tower car park, walking up to the Pigeon Tower, then Rivington Pike Tower, then down to the bungalow remains, over the Lever 7 arch bridge then across to the Great Lawn & the Terrace Gardens. Then went back to the car & drove across to Rivington Reservoir car park, walking along the eastern edge of the reservoir to Liverpool Castle. Toilets are available at Great House & Rivington Reservoir car parks.
A decent free day out, but personally I wouldn’t bother with the Liverpool Castle folly. I expected a better view of the reservoir from there but there was too much tree cover. The remains of the bungalow & gardens are interesting & have you wondering what it would have been like during its pomp in Lever’s lifetime. The view from the top of the pike is good, especially on a clear day.

Large area of countryside with a long walk to the top of the hill, a number of car parks dotted around at varying distances from the top. Recently restored formal gardens, follies etc.

Fab walk from the car park to the top, can be very steep at times but worth the walk up! Lovely gardens along the way, my favourite being the Japanese Garden and the views from the top are stunning.

I love Rivington Pike - it is a great walk, and the views are simply spectacular. It can get busy, so pick your time to make the most of the stunning views. I went one evening (via Wilderswood), and it was pretty empty. Such a gorgeous place to sit down, reflect, and be thankful for the stunning world around us. On a clear night, you can see the peaks and the Irish Sea in one shot - incredible.

Good target destination for walkers and hikers, very steep climb, views across the valley below. Nice place to take a picnic.

Beautiful day and a lovely walk to the pike from the car park. A popular place for a walk, all year round, dogs are welcome. Usually (depending on weather) there's an ice cream van, when you get back to the car park, for some much needed refreshment.

We enjoyed a lovely morning, walking round the gardens and walking up to Rivington Pike. The gardens were really interesting and there are information boards in each section you go in to. As well as the gardens (Japanese gardens, Italian lake, lodges, pigeon tower) we also walked up to Rivington pike. The views from here are amazing. We spent 3 hours walking (a lot of steps and paths). Worth it, was great.

A lovely walk in the country. The Japanese Gardens area was beautiful and the view from the tower at the top of the hill was stunning.
We did a 10 mile walk around the area and will definitely be back soon :)

Hi Karen Do you mind me asking where exactly the summit is? We've got a trip planned there with family (who are travelling a long way) this weekend but am a little unclear of exact location/satnav etc. Also, we've got my elderly mum (84) who won't be able to walk that far so anywhere to park? #thanks v much. Are the footpath/routes clearly marked.

The footpaths are obvious but if you are expecting signposts or trail markers then no there aren't many at all. It doesn't really warrant it really though because the Pike is almost always visible and Winter Hill beyond it are easily visible so getting lost is almost impossible.

Is Rivington open again? 2 weeks ago the paths up from the top barn were still closed after the fires.

all paths are availlable but there are the remains of tape and so on but really the fire is out as the rain has ended the concerns of re firing and its all good to go. its a bit black and charred if you go far enough but there are signs of green regrowth fortunately.
worth a visit to watch the stages of renewal seeing which plants take advantage of the lack of competition.

Is there a path for wheelchair use
paulsheridan2018
Aberdeen, UK26 مساهمة
there is no definitive wheelchair access but greater access can be enjoyed if you drive to the upper car park on the road going over the moors due east from the barn which is quite high up with good views and plenty of space for any vehicles. from there its a surfaced track that runs up and around and through the park and its wooded areas. i think it leads around past the old toliets and then along to the south for access to properties but there is no way you can go off this much apart from a piece of the gardens and it may be possible and def worth a try if you are accompanied. there are gradients bit not unmanageable with help so def worth a try ditto for prams really.

Is there live stock on the walk. Want to do this walk with my dogs but being sheep dogs I can't let them off lead around sheep/cows. Thanks

yes through one key area there is usually livestock so leads are advisable don't hesitate though its only on short strech towards the beginning of the climb of the pike where it takes you to the upper gardens from the lower drives where the castle and such is
