‪This is a great piece of Castroville history. It's amazing to think that it was built in Alsace, dismantled and rebuilt here. It's a beautiful depiction of Alsatian architecture and engineering.‬

‪It's a must see if you're visiting Castroville. The building houses the Castroville Visitors Center. It would have been 5 stars if the woman at the welcome center was a bit more welcoming. ‬

‪This is one of the oldest houses in Texas. It was brought over from France and put together by Alsatian college students. It took them 4 years to complete. It is so lovely in person. Well worth the stop.‬

‪Back in the day, we enjoyed taking a drive over from San Antonio to Castroville to have lunch and get some fresh baked goods at Haby's Alsatian Bakery. It was a leisurely thing to do on a pretty spring or autumn Saturday. But in our decades' long absence from the area, Castroville got something new, which happens to be a 17th-Century house meticulously disassembled and brought there from Alsace, France. Filled with period furnishings and keepsakes, this tidy dwelling now holds the town's visitor center. So before (or after) you visit Haby's, drop by and check out the Steinbach Hus Park and Visitor's Center where the staff can also share some background about the culture brought to Castroville by its 19th-Century settlers. ONE NOTE: this is not necessarily the best place for young children as most of the artifacts in the house are easily within the reach of curious little ones' grasp; in fact, virtually each exhibit and object has its own do-not-touch sign, which even for an adult, was a little off-putting. That's the only reason I did not rank it a 5.‬

‪Had a great time visiting this Castroville information center. Everyone will love it because it's free. This house is a great place to visit and it shows the design of the culture that has come to live in Castroville. Will DEFINITELY visit again‬

‪Stop by and say, “Hi”. The staff is very friendly and there is a lot of good information about what to do in Castroville and the surrounding areas. Plus, the house and the belongings in it will give you a good idea about what home life was like when the town was settled. ‬

‪This is Castroville’s visitor center. We went on Thursday only to find out that it is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 10am-4pm so we were not able to see the inside with period furnishings etc. So literally we took a couple of pictures and that’s it. This house was a gift from the people of the Alsace region of France to the people of Castroville. It was built between 1618-1648. House was disassembled shipped to Castroville and reassembled in 1998. There is free parking available. ‬

‪Interesting building which was a reconstruction, brought from the Alsace region of France. This town was settled by Alsatian immigrants and has many historic homes which have preserved their heritage.‬

‪The lady who spent all the time were wanted explaining the history of Castroville just happened to be there because someone from France had called and asked if there would be anyone there to show them the awesome building. They are normally closed on Thursdays and Fridays. It's such a typical little Alsatian building, from France, and our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the history. ‬
