We were driving through Castroville & decided to stop & tour some of the local sights. So glad we stopped. Learned a lot about the settlement of Castroville, the inn & the cotton gin.

It felt like we were staying with family. Whisper and the gentleman who was working on the grounds made us feel welcome and patiently answered all our questions. Every room was spotless and the beds were amazingly comfortable. Chess boards were provided for entertainment and we enjoyed seeing the deer at twilight and watching the stars from the rocking chairs.

We thoroughly enjoyed taking a look at this historic inn and surrounding grounds. The keeper of the gift shop was super friendly and informative. She gave us brochures on the history of the inn and also directed us to points of interest in town. The small museum offers insights into the history of Castroville. The Medina River skirts the rear of the property and there is an old mill there as well. Very pretty site!

Our first time in Castroville and we are amazed at the unique architecture and age of the homes, for TX. The museum docent was friendly and informative. We enjoyed a walk outside along the river. Unfortunately no tours due to Covid, but a nice stop, especially if you are doing the historic tour through town.

The interpretive exhibits are well done and the site offers a great short walking trail along the Medina River and among the historic buildings. The docent on duty offered up great stories and background information on the history of Castroville and the role of the historic inn.

Castroville is an incredible Texas village. Just outside of San Antonio, it was founded in the 1800‘s by settlers from Alsace, France - and that Alsatian culture and language continue to be deeply ingrained within the village today. Even today there are a significant number of „old timers“ that are Americans that have grown up here but learned Alsacienne and Swiss German as their mother tongue. The Landmark Inn State Historic Site is the single best way for you to orient yourself here: it has a small museum that gives a wonderful overview of the history of this place. And the museum is staffed with amazing, wonderful people who are happy to not only explain the place to you, but to connect you with locals in the community for you to visit. If you are planning a trip to San Antonio, you must plan one to Castroville - and when you come here, the Landmark Inn should be your first stop!

Very peaceful and beautiful place to visit. Stopped on our way through town. Would like to go back when we have more time to walk through.

Went into the gift shop first, the staff was amazing! Walked around the property, and hung out a little by the dam. This is a must do!!!!

This is a historic site built in the 1840’s. Served as a commercial site and offered overnight lodging to the travelers. It is still used as a small B&B. The backyard offers beautiful views of the Medina River. Inside the main building is the lobby with a small shop and a museum explaining the history of the Inn with photos. We did not stay in the inn we just walked the grounds. There is free parking offered.
