What a wonderful experience! My husband and I recently moved to Chandler, TX from Las Vegas. Chandler is a small town (about 3500 people), and we have been enjoying the genuine kindness and friendliness of the people. Today we visited the Chandler Museum and we were very pleasantly surprised. We have always enjoyed seeing how people lived in the past, and the Chandler Museum is absolutely the best depiction of life in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s that we have experienced. The museum director, Nancy, has created a gem that is on par with the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
We thoroughly enjoyed the old house and train depot with all of the original artifacts from the early history of Chandler. We now have a deeper and richer appreciation for Chandler, and feel more that we belong in this special town.
Nancy’s background as a librarian (she is the director of the Chandler Library also), her degrees in history and English, and her roots in Chandler (her family goes back to her great-grandfather in Chandler), make her perfectly qualified as the museum director; but it is her love of the town and it’s history that fuel her passion to display the truth of it’s interesting and rich history.
We recommend the Chandler Museum experience to everyone. There is something for all ages. If you find yourself anywhere near Chandler, it is worth the drive to visit the museum.

Wow - what a treat! We were passing through town and one of the locals recommended that we stop by the Chandler Museum. We drove to the edge of town and were welcomed by Ms. Nancy, who is in charge of the museum and is a great-niece of the founding Chandler family. Ms. Nancy knows everything about the history of the Chandlers and the key activities from the past 180 years of the town's history.
The museum is very well done, with separate rooms for military, education and toys. There is a little area inside for a small tea or other type of reception. There is a new train depot building on the property, moved a couple of years ago from the downtown area. This has also been refurbished to represent the train, fire department, and post office history of the town.
Ms. Nancy was a pleasure to meet and we felt like part of her family from the moment we opened the door. We can’t wait to come back for another visit!

What a treasure hidden in East Texas, the Chandler Museum & Visitor Center in Chandler, Texas. After ringing the bell , which consisted of pulling a piece of rope back and forth through a hole in the door frame from the front porch, we were welcomed into an actual home of the period that had been moved to the Chandler Museum Site in totality 4 years ago! The welcoming committee consisted of three of the most charming, personable, dedicated, conscientious, and well informed volunteers a Museum could ever ask for. The respect and pride they had for all of the treasured artifacts that is housed in this Special Museum was easily evident. The stories and history they shared from the past only enhanced the priceless experience of stepping back in time and seeing what was and how we have changed and how somethings never change. They have chosen to be guardians of the past while sharing it with the present in hopes of making a difference in the future. The art display of local artists that was highlighted in one of the rooms was the quality of a New York Art Gallery! The display of the two sisters picture and the original switch board and other samples of telephones over the years was a reminder of how far we have come in technology but not necessarily improvement of communications in general. Of special interest to me was the room that honored and displayed artifacts, pictures, clothing, and many other mementos, and history of all of our Services contributions to fighting the battles that have and still do rage for truth, freedom, unity, equality, justice and liberty. I will definitely make a point to go back again to visit this special place that makes you want to sit down, have a cup of tea and visit with the special volunteers in the beautiful dining room while embracing the sites, sounds, and essence of days gone by but not lost forever! The grounds and gazebo were beautiful and inviting for a stroll or sitting and smelling the flowers. Also, I greatly appreciated the attention to detail in providing a ramp entrance to the building so that those persons with a challenge can gain access to the building and not miss out on this amazing opportunity! Thank you, Patty and your fellow volunteers for sharing this treasure with us. Roberta, Martinsburg, WV. 8-2017

We spent a pleasant hour here seeing the Yarborough family home where three generations including Senator Ralph Yarborough lived. Our guides were welcoming and knowledgeable and very proud of Chandler's Museum and their hometown.

My MIL grew up near Chandler and her aunts ran the switchboard. We took her to visit, and she really enjoyed the blast from the past. The museum was well organized and the lady there very well-informed.
Really enjoyed our time there.

Excellently presented small museum. Well worth a visit. A lot hard work has gone into the displays and organization and it shows.

In a lovely, historical mansion on Highway 31 West coming into Chandler, you can find hours of interesting local lore, artifacts, articles, antiques & a few antique people who appear to have lived in these parts longer than most people have lived. And the people there love sharing stories of local folk. Feel free to ask... they go out of their way to to make you feel right at home f

On my way back to Tyler Tx from Athens Tx decided to stop at the beautiful Chandler Museum and visitors center. The landscape and building are so nice! I got a personal tour from the sweet docent Ms Fern. The displays and attached information were really helpful. Everything was so clean and organized. Each room has a different theme. Even a signed letter from Jackie Kennedy and one from Charles Lyndberg. Ms Fern was able to tell me history of the building and its inhabitants over the years. Even personal stories bout the town, local people and area. Really glad a made a quick decision to stop.

The history of this little town is hard to compete with in this area. We have had many people go on to do huge things in the world out of little old Chandler. The museum is wonderful. Doesn't take long to go through, so if you need to stretch your legs, it is a must. A very neat military service exhibit. Really, all of the exhibits are excellent. If you are looking to have a tea party, contact Nancy Bertoff with the city, and she can line you up.
