This museum is about the funeral industry.
I haven't seen a museum like this or dedicated to educating the public about the funeral industry anywhere in the world.
There is a free parking lot right outside the museum.
Budgeted for an hour but ended up spending three hours. It covers a wide range of topics from Presidential Funeral, Popal Funeral, cremation history and process, different funeral customs from other countries, and with the newly added permanent exhibit on Shroud of Turin.
There is an admission fee. Better to go to the restroom before entry because once you enter, there is no restroom inside until you are out. No food or drinks allowed inside.
The museum environment isn't scary or creepy.
The displays and exhibits are educational and informative. For example, they have several booklets on coffin price used by coffin salespeople in the past. There are students came here as part of field trips.
If you are in Houston and is looking for a unique place to visit for half a day, this can be a good option. It's on north side of Houston, not too far from George Bush International Airport ("IAH"), about 20 minutes' drive.

Fun thing to do while in Houston. Definitely sounds a bit odd and weird, but it was actually anything but. Very historic, charming and well operated museum that was not creepy but actually engaging. I wouldn’t recommend children coming here, but I can see more mature teenagers and adults having a great time here. Make sure to check out the presidential section, it was very interesting

I was pleasantly surprised by this museum. I learned a lot. There were many exhibits to view. They had history of embalming, cremation, historic cars that were used as hearses and how they functioned. The other exhibits involved funeral details and memorial cards for things such as presidential funerals, famous people, popes, etc.
We were there for about an hour and a half and just barely finished, so two hours is probably a good amount of time. Really great informative place.

This museum is awesome! They have so many artifacts and hearses. I was looking for something abnormal/spooky to do in Houston and this is it! Very affordable, too! And they have a parking lot! Easy access to get here!

This museum is much more than meets the eye! We spent an hour and a half at the Funeral Museum and enjoyed every minute. We learned a lot and especially enjoyed the presidential funeral exhibit, the Pope funeral exhibit, and seeing all of the historic hearses. It’s not too morbid or gimmicky, it truly is a well done museum.

This is by far one of the most unique and interesting museums I've ever visited. The tour is $10, and offers a look at the business of death in all aspects of life: regular citizens, celebrities, the Papacy, various countries around the world, and the presidency. There is a large collection of caskets, hearsts, and death carriages from the 1800s. In addition, visitors learn about everything from mummification to crematation. It is informative and oddly fascinating.

Interesting collection of funerary items and exhibits honoring the lives of people that have impacted US society.
Emphasis given to the evolution of some practices related with preserving and disposing people after death.

How long on average does it take to do the museum?

It's definitely bigger than we anticipated. I'd plan for 2 or more hours depending on how interested you are in the subject.

So you know, it's not a big building nor does it "stand out" (unless you were looking for it, you might not notice it). It's tucked away in a residential neighborhood, but a few blocks from the main drag. It's best described as a "mom and pop" type of museum--no frills place. That being said, it's certainly an interesting museum, just don't expect it to be more than a 1-2 hour visit.

Hi! I believe it's $10 for adults...I'm a senior and I think I paid $9.00. And yes, they do accept credit cards! As far as food, I didn't see a café or anything onsite, but a number of restaurants are nearby. It's Houston after all!
