The most amazing 20 acres of garden and woodland. Stunning Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Acers. Wonderfully laid out with grass paths between flower beds and wild areas with amazing little follies built every where. A truly inspirational garden and will look forward to visiting again and again in all the different seasons of the year.

We stayed in Bluebells chalet for three nights and loved every minute. Beautiful location in the midst of the fabulous 20 acres of gardens and woodland and it was wonderful to be able to wander through the woods on our own in the morning and evening. The chalet is charming,and well equipped and Fiona and her team could not have been more helpful. Above all, it's such a calm, relaxing place to stay and so quiet. Very relaxing and we left feeling uplifted and reinvigorated. The gardens are stunning!
and well worth a trip on their own even if you don't stay in one of their properties. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back

A peaceful and welcoming oasis of 20 acres of beautiful scented gardens with a heart warming story of regeneration. Expertly planned yet with a relaxed feeling there is something to interest and delight you round every bend as you wander through both the more formal garden and the woodland area. You will find plenty to see whatever time of year you visit. On a sunny May day we sampled excellent food and drink on the cafe terrace looking out into the garden and surrounded by lovely shrubs and flowers. Looking forward to visiting at other times of year especially February to see the fascinating hamamelis in flower.

What an inspiring loved garden, Fiona the owner provided a wonderful informative interesting tour as went with a group. You must go and I’m not a gardener! We will come again in the Autumn to see all the colours.

If you're looking for a Garden of Eden experience, Green Island Gardens is the place to go. Whatever the time of year you visit, you'll find something delightful to scintillate your senses.
The layout of the gardens is planned with imagination and expert knowledge, providing an enchanting array of sights and smells.
The gardens and woods are currently filled with the aroma of bluebells, enhanced by splashes of vibrant blooms of azaleas and rhododendrons that are dotted around.
I was so impressed the first time I visited Green Island Gardens that I now regularly buy an annual pass for two so that I can frequently visit with a friend.
My advice is if you are visiting the area, the Gardens are not to be missed. Don't forget to allow a couple of hours to wander around, and sample the delicious food and drink on the cafe terraces, it's heavenly.

May is a particularly beautiful time of year to visit with the bluebells and azaleas at heir peak but you will find plenty more whatever time you choose to visit. A beautiful area filled with plants,shrubs ,flowers and trees.Everything is coming into bloom so a good time to visit.The rhododendrons,acres, bluebells and buttercups were magnificent and ablaze with colour.There is a lovely tea room serving home made sandwiches and delicious cakes as well as a nursery selling plants.Lovely wooded areas too and a children's playground.A perfect place for all ages.

Wow what a lovely way to spend an afternoon! Such a beautiful and tranquil garden with an array of colours, some amazing azaleas, rhododendrons, camelias and camassias together with my favourite tree - the Judas. And to couple that a wonderful craft fair with many interesting stalls this weekend. Well worth a visit!

First time visiting the gardens but we’d heard great things from friends who had visited previously. And we weren’t disappointed! The gardens are amazing and were full of amazing colours with a huge variety of trees and plants. They also had homemade cakes!

Visited for the first time today for the Bluebell Bazaar craft fair. The gardens are absolutely beautiful, especially the woodland garden and the pond area, lots of inspiration for my own garden! There were some really nice stalls to look at and the staff were super friendly. I thought it might be really busy in the gardens as we had to park in the overflow car park, but they are so spacious it felt like we were the only ones there at times.
I bought some beautiful (very reasonably priced) plants from the nursery and will definitely be returning 😊

What an amazing place! I visited Green Island Gardens on a whim, I live in Ardleigh but had never been. Intending just to have a quick look round the garden, I genuinely thought I would be half and hour at the most... 2 hours later I was still there!
Totally overwhelmed by the tranquillity of the surroundings, I found myself wandering around attractive, well structured and maintained gardens, each with its own character and particular beauty. I meandered through woodland, meadows, formal gardens, seaside dry areas and alongside streams and ponds, every turn seemed to be another stunning vista. I could have been anywhere not just a couple of miles from Colchester City centre.
Green Island is a place not just for garden/plant lovers but for anyone wanting to bring some peace and joy into their lives. Plus there is a tea room and wildlife centre that, on this visit, I was too pushed for time to enjoy.
Fiona, the owner, was very welcoming and knowledgeable - I will be back very soon, once I can devote a morning and/or afternoon, to thoroughly appreciate all the gardens and plants that I am sure I missed.

Is the garden wheelchair friendly?

Yes we are very wheelchair friendly. The grounds are all flat, and the grass paths are dry and firm. There are paths through all the woodland as well, and we have lots of wheelchair, mobility scooters and visitors using mobility scooters. We have ramps at the entrance and tearoom . The only tricky areas are the gravelled nursery and seaside garden, the rest is easy pushing!

Hi Your gardens look fantastic and my wife is just mad about gardening and we will be in the area on Thursday of this week as I need to visit a company close by and my wife would like to visit your gardens, but would she be able to bring our very well behaved dog?
