All the guns are removed however is easy to imagine how it looked many years ago. Description of the sites shows how quickly all the new equipment was becoming obsolete. Nice place for picnic.

This is an easy stop to spot as you exit the ferry on the island east of Galveston. You will also see the Lighthouse and some very good over views of the marshes. There are wildlife observation decks on the north side of the park.
The remains of the forts are from the Civil War and the 2 World Wars. What remains is a very small portion of the original structures and earthworks. The park is big and there is are parking. No admission charges.

This is a very, very nice park. Great walking paths around the historic ruins of the fort. Lots of places to picnic and bird watch. The bathrooms are disgusting, people are pigs.

We have been to many Forts similar to this where you have access to the gun mounts, the barracks etc. Everything here is locked up. It was still a nice peaceful walk around the grounds, and there were some informational plaques to learn about the history of the Fort.

I visited this place with family and dog. We all loved it. A lot of space to walk and climb over hills. There is no equipment or weapons stored in fort's storages. They looked really abandoned. Only couple of signs over there telling the history of 122 years old construction. But in overall we enjoyed our staying there.

I have been to Galveston for decades and never stopped at Fort Davis. This time was a charm. Lots of great space for walking and learning a couple centuries of history at Fort Travis.

Okay, most of the buildings have been destroyed or are in such horrible conditions that you can't on them/through them. If you fish you might enjoy it. it is an okay area to walk for strictly a walk. STAY OUT OF THE RESTROOMS. They are simply HORRIBLE. I truly felt like I walked into a scene from Criminal Minds. Forgive this place is not A_Wine_O approved. To get me to go back you would have to provide at least a magnum of Silver Oak and Bollinger.

We spent probably an hour total here. There is so much green space, which our kids loved. The structures are pretty run down in places (don't think they've been restored at all). Sadly we saw quite a bit of trash that had been thrown inside them (especially where things were closed off with grates). The grounds were being mowed while we were there and it seems they are taken care of pretty well overall. There was a large dead opossum on site when we were there by the main entrance to the fort! Thought that was a little odd, as it was just laying in front of the door. There is a fun little playground on site as well, which was enjoyed by all.

Somehow we have overlooked Fort Travis Seashore Park for years!! So glad our eyes were finally opened to it! Of course the history captured our hearts but the location on Bolivar Peninsula, the expansive grassy areas, the brick street lining the seawall, the ocean breeze, the birds, watching the ships & the ferries go by and having that beautiful Bolivar lighthouse watching over your every move, what's not to love about this place! And did I mention there is no charge? Wow! It's a place I will never tire of visiting!

This has been the location of forts since the days of The Republic of Texas. What remains are the concrete batteries and building foundations that were last used in WWII. Most are surrounded by chain link fences, but you can see them pretty well. There are restrooms and a playground for kids. The buildings are fairly spread out, but there are roads leading very close to most and it's not a bad still to park and just walk to all of them. You can probably see everything in an hour or less. If you are taking the ferry over from Galveston Island, the wait times vary considerably. Coming over I only waited about 15 minutes, but going back the wait was over an hour.

I read this from the dogfriendly . com website:
Dogs are allowed in the park for day use and camping for no additional fee; they must be kept leashed and cleaned up after at all times. Dogs are allowed on the beach. The camping and tent areas also allow dogs. There is a dog walk area at the campground.
