‪Muy bueno‬
زوجان • مايو 2021

‪Note to 38DDD’s- Probably not for you. I wouldn’t do it again. I was squeezed to the point of panic.‬

‪Very cool slot canyon hike‬
نوفمبر 2020
‪If doing this in conjunction with the peek-a-boo canyon, I recommend doing that one first and hike the route clockwise. The route has a well maintained cairn rockpile system to help you navigate from the parking lot to the slot entrance. There is one boulder choke obstacle in the Spooky slot and no rope to assist when I went (Nov 2020). Not a major obstacle. I strongly recommend not wearing a backpack, the Spooky slot gets VERY narrow in places - at some points chest and back are touching the walls simultaneously. Long 25 mile dirt road along the Hole in the Rock road to the parkin glot - a passenger car can make it easily if the route is dry.‬

‪Great Hike‬
الأصدقاء • أكتوبر 2020
‪This hike requires about a hike on the canyon rim and then goes down the shear rock - thanks goodness for the cairns or otherwise it is not obvious where the trail goes. Then once you get down to the bottom of the canyon you need to walk a bit before the 15 foot crawl into Peekaboo. You can’t really do Spooky without starting at Peekaboo. The walk between the two is not very obvious, but just look for the cairns. You cannot do this hike is you have a wide girth or are not agile. Also, best to not have a backpack because Spooky is very tight.‬

‪Actually scary at points‬
أكتوبر 2020
‪This was claustrophobic and the hardest of the three, but you can't change your mind once committed. Tall drops, very tight turns, sharp rock nodules that rasp your skin if not very careful. Like yoga in a rock. Still amazing!! A climbing rope was left at the hardest area- dropping down under a massive rockfall to come out below. Use care, wear the right shoes, bring water and seriously, you can't be hefty and get through. I held my small pack in front and walked sideways at the narrow part and I'm only 135. lbs.‬

‪Cool hike‬
مارس 2020
‪Very cool hike! Some sections of the canyon were quite dark and spooky. I would recommend against bringing large backpacks, since the canyon can get pretty narrow in some spots. You probably don't want to bring hiking posts either, since they won't be much help. We hiked this trail and the trail at Peekaboo Gulch since they are close to each other.‬

‪Close to nature‬

‪Spooky gulch definitely lives up to it's name! Sections are challenging and dark, requiring the ability to maneuver tight quarters. Not for those with fears of small spaces. 10/10 would recommend.‬

‪Scary experience‬
يوليو 2020
‪I wanted to write a warning about my experience hiking on July 4th. I'm a 5'3" 59 year-year-old female in fair shape weighing almost 200 lb. We parked in the parking lot and started on the hike through sand and sandstone about 9:20 am. It's a mile to get down to where the slot canyons start. We spent a few minutes checking out Dry Fork Narrows before ascending Peekaboo. I was with a group of in-shape relatives and had to be assisted up into Peekaboo with a rope and being pushed from behind. I'm a 5'3" 59 year-year-old female in fair shape weighing almost 200 lb. I never would have made it on my own because my legs aren't long enough nor do I have enough upper arm strength. This slot canyon was challenging and offered good photo ops but I was out of breath in parts. Things got progressively worse once we started into Spooky. I'd read differing reviews about it narrowing down to 10-12" in parts (my width at its widest was 14 3/4 and I didn't know which one was correct) but then other people said in reviews that I'd read and at the BLM when I called that they knew of overweight people that had done it so I was optimistic I could somehow get through. After the initial difficult descent, again with the use of a rope and help from other people, we got to a point where I couldn't fit through. Two of my nephews got on their hands and knees and let me walk over them (it was a bit wider higher up) until I could get to a place that wasn't so narrow. I thought that was the narrowest part of Spooky but when some of our group went ahead they came back with the news that it got even narrower and that I shouldn't even attempt it. The girls were told to hike back to our vehicles and the men and I retraced our steps and it was much more difficult going up Spooky. Luckily there weren't too many people coming down that we had to wait for. Once we got back on the desert (mid-'90s at this point?) and began our trek towards Peekaboo, I began to feel the effects of heat exhaustion which became progressively worse. It was decided that we wouldn't head back down the slot canyon but kept walking cross country until we came down to the area near the base of Peekaboo. We then began the tortuous (in my mind) hike back up to the parking lot through lots of sand. I wanted to stop frequently to rest, was extremely thirsty, dizzy and nauseated, and had run out of water (I only had 2 1/2 liters). Luckily I was assisted up the hill and given more water. I had some trail mix with me but eating just a little bit made me even more thirsty. We finally made it back to the parking lot at 3:30. Later on as we were driving back to Sandy I started to get extremely painful charley horses from lack of sodium, etc. If you attempt this hike make sure you have at least 4 liters of water and salty snacks that you eat on the way, don't attempt it during the summer unless it's early in the morning and don't even think of going through Spooky unless you're under 11" wide from front to back.‬

‪Lived up to its name!‬
يونيو 2020
‪The Spooky Gulch was a gorgeous hike, though slightly more difficult than expected! The Peek-a-boo and Spooky Gulch trails are meant to be done in a loop, so my first mistake was starting it backwards! Definitely follow the directions and complete both slot canyons through the loop :) it will be much easier! Be warned that some spots get very tight, so it might not be ideal for people that are claustrophobic! But overall, beautiful and spooky :) ‬

‪Not what I expected! Extremely fun and adventurous. Everyone there was polite and took turns through the slots. The 26 mile drive there is bumpy and rocky.‬
