‪Beautiful trails/house not worth it.‬
زوجان • أكتوبر 2021
‪The space is incredible. I rate the grounds a 5 out of 5. There are beautiful walking lanes that are a trip through the woods that are very well kept and marked. I highly suggest the trails, and they are kid friendly. The homestead was not worth it. The tour was good, but there is not a lot to see. The house was actually a duplex that was converted back to look like his house in the 1700s. The grounds on the homestead part were not up-kept well. There was plastic and trash on the ground. The tour is $12 a person.‬

‪Be sure to take the guided tour‬
أكتوبر 2021
‪This is a nice historical site. Be sure to take a tour with a guide - that's the only way to make it really interesting - the stories the guides tell are great. Just looking at the buildings and exhibits is not enough. You may need to reserve a spot online for a tour. Ethan Allen was quite the character.‬

‪Touring Ethan Allen Homestead‬
يوليو 2021
‪Average trip. We arrived at approximately 12:45 pm and went inside the small museum to buy our tickets. There were a couple informational plaques detailing the life of Ethan Allan as well as some memorabilia. The museum was very tiny. We made reservations ahead of time to do a guided tour of the house, which was included in the cost of admission. The tour guide gave us a brief overview of Ethan Allan and then proceeded to show us a short movie about his life. We than walked to his home, where we toured both his garden and individual rooms inside of the home. We were than free to walk on one of the trails down to the river.

Tip: I recommend spending 2 hours here if you truly want to see everything.‬

‪Winter Animal Tracking and Tree Identification‬
فبراير 2020
‪About 22 of us collected to attend an informal winters walk focusing on trees and animal tracks. The site was and is always extraordinary in any time of the year, in any weather condition- It's a beautiful natural space and historic site. So much wildlife activity! ‬

‪This is for Vermont History Buffs‬
أكتوبر 2019
‪On a recent trip to Quebec we dropped into Burlington for the day. We decided to stop by the Ethan Allen house to add to our enjoyment of a beautiful fall day. The small museum is open to the public, but for the tour of the homestead the cost is $10 a piece.

We were welcomed and brought to the house by the director where we received a rather informative talk about the house and the life of Ethan Allen and his family. A great take for Vermont history buffs and as my family came from the area, I enjoyed it.

You can do the tour and the museum in a little over an hour, but leave some time to walk the grounds and paths. A great place to spend a couple of hours on a nice day.‬

‪A Work in Progress‬

‪My husband is a history buff so this place was right up his alley. The tour guide was very informative and interesting. The Homestead is updating planting local crops, incorporating Native American traditions, and demonstrations. Nice place to visit.‬

‪Ethan Allen Homestead a page in history books comes to life‬
العائلة • سبتمبر 2019
‪My wife and I visited on a rainy day not sure what to expect. The guide was so informative and definitely brought some interesting history to light regarding Vermont and the green mountain boys. The guide and staff all wanted to make sure we got a good visit. There is a huge vegetable garden volunteers work and many trails to walk and bike.‬

‪Most of the house is not Ethan Allen house. it has been owned by many other families and has been remodeled many times. it was a 10 minute tour that took an hour. The film at the start was OK, and probably was the best part of the tour.‬

Thank You for taking the time to review our site, and provide us with feedback. The house is small, as was common for many home built in the 18th Century, and much of our knowledge of it comes from documents from the time period. The House was initially built for the Allen family, but Ethan suffered a stroke after living there for two years, his heirs lived in the home off and on over the next 25 years, and sold the home in 1814. Archaeological records and evidence from the original frame and foundation, indicate that several renovations were done over the years, a major renovation done in 1830, and another done in the 20th Century. At one point there were several barns that burned in 1899 (you can still see the scorch marks in on the beams on the second floor. In the mid-1980s, a major restoration project began to restore the appearance of the house in the 1780s, their team used evidence left on the surviving frame, sheathing, and roof planks to determine the original layout, and also drew from other contemporary designs to replicate it's 18th Century look. We use the House and the property to give insights into the life of the people who lived on the Intervale throughout history, we examine the lives of the Abenakis who lived and still do live in the area, the early French and Anglo Settlers, and the people who lived in this remarkable area afterwards. The Allen house allows our volunteers to explain the lives of the 18th Century residents through an examination of their daily lives. Our Volunteers are always excited to share their knowledge. We hope you took the time to view some of our other offerings such as our new Abenaki exhibit, our Green Mountain Boys exhibit or our trails. Constructive feedback about our site and how we can improve our offerings is always appreciated. Please feel free to contact us at info@ethanallenhomestead.org to offer more thoughts about how we can improve or if you are interested in seeing some of the documentation I mentioned! Thank You!

‪Stop if you're in the area‬
يوليو 2019
‪Our visit to the Ethan Allen homestead was worth it. Hidden away, but easy to find if you are in the Burlington area. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny, sharing much about the history of this area of Vermont as well as Ethan Allen himself. A quick visit is all you need. ‬

‪The guide was good and the exhibits were helpful. This place was full of information about a world I thought I knew. Added lots of texture to that knowledge. Loved the lessons on how to make linen and shoes.‬
