If you are a fan of chamber music - old or new, there is no better venue than the Yellow Barn. With the staff of the finest instrumental teachers in the world performing the superb programs from Bach to Beethoven to Brahms to Bartok and beyond, each evening of music is a wonderful experience. With the intimate setting with just a couple hundred chairs you feel like they are doing this just for you in your livingroom. If you are in New England in June, July and early August, the Yellow Barn is a must.

Finest young people doing classical music. Must enjoy forward looking music. Not for everyone. Nothing routine about the people , the setting, or the music. Very Vermont.

This is the third visit to attend a performance by the very talented musicians attending the summer learning session at the Yellow Barn. The venue is small but intimate, there is not a bad seat in the house. The path from the parking lot to the main entrance is gravel but lit with pretty lights giving the arrival a festive atmosphere. The season is over fairly soon but go on line in June of next year and you will be treated to excellent music.

If you like chamber music, Yellow Barn concerts are not to be missed. Young, very talented musicians come together with teachers to study and perform. The performances are in an intimate, comfortable setting. My husband and I love the concerts mainly because the music offerings are lively and varied, the playing is fresh. If you want stodgy you won't find it here. You will hear some old favorites, beautifully played, and then maybe get a taste of a newly composed piece. The last few concerts we have been to made for exhilarating, satisfying outings.

High brow to the max. If you are effete, elderly, from out of state, don't get dirty, and wouldn't touch a cow or a pig, this is the place for you. You won't need hearing protection!

Wow, this is a great find. This is a functioning summer music school for talented young, professional caliber musicians and a faculty drawn from the nation's top conservatories. They play in teacher-student combinations with programs that showcase chamber music from across five centuries. The music mix is thoughtful and ear-opening. Visiting composers, often quite famous, present their work as well, and there are all sorts of discussions and master classes going on.
The barn itself has amenities that all too rare in this neck of the woods, I.e. great acoustics, very comfortable "furniture-style" chairs, air conditioning (!), carpeting and obstacle- free sight - lines. It is the perfect size for small ensemble music.

Chamber music in the US doesn't get any better than Yellow Barn. For the audience, It starts with world-class performances by aspiring young professionals playing side by side with top notch mentors in a comfortable, intimate hall that is ideal for chamber music. For the performers, it's an opportunity to rehearse in depth in a tranquil rural setting with seasoned performers, in an atmosphere that encourages experimentation and dedication to the music. The repertoire is an exciting mix of chamber music classics (Beethoven, Schumann, Ravel) and new or neglected music, including works by well-chosen composers-in-residence each season. The programs are long and demanding for the audience, but there's ice cream and blueberries at intermission to refresh your attention.
