This is an area of astounding beauty. We spent there two weks exploring it on our motor boats. We also have kayaks with us. There is so much to do there. There are abandoned First Nations villages, there are First Nations current villages, you can kayak with whales, there are tonnes of dolphins. And there is also hiking.

One of the most beautiful places that I’ve kayaked in. Highly recommended you make a trip here to see the whales and the bald eagles 🦅

We stayed at a floating lodge - Farewell Harbour - and saw bears on land and many whales and dolphins while at sea. We can't wait to go back.

Incredible location for kayaking/camping, nit too far from Telegraph Cove. Inexperienced kayakers should hire guides. Beautiful paddling with whale, sea lion and dolphin sightings. It can be old so dress warm . No facilities so you must bring everything with you.

I just returned last night from my latest kayaking adventure in the Broughtons. I have travelled to this area since 1994 and I never get tired of the beauty and the wildlife. It is a long way to travel to get there but it is worth it when you see your first whale, orca or bear up close. The camping spots for kayakers are well spaced around the Marine Park. Be sure to plan your route carefully because of the dangerous winds and currents that can be very challenging especially for inexperienced paddlers. If you are unsure of your abilities contact one of the local tour companies and use them. Safety is the number one priority. You don't want to screw up without knowing how to save yourself. The water is deadly cold! I really enjoy the serenity of paddling the hundreds of islands and taking in all the wildlife that abounds in the archipelago.

This was my fourth trip to the Broughton Archipelago and I would go back again soon if it were possible.
The wild beauty and stunning landscape are among the world's most spectacular places and it offers and opportunity to see marine mammals such as orcas, humpback whales and dolphins. If you go, practice "Leave No Trace" and help protect it.

Although not secluded like other locations for camping in the Broughton Archipelego, this is a good location when dropped or to be picked up by the water taxi. We camped here our last night of 8, then paddled to Paddler's Inn the next morning for transportation by the resort owner (Bruce) back to Telegraph Cove. It was a plan that worked very well and Bruce is an outstanding host. (Another option is to stay at Paddler's Inn, but he was fully booked when I called.)
If you manage to camp here over a Saturday evening, I recommend joining in the once-a-week pig roast at Pierre's Echo Bay Marina during the summer months. It's a pot luck, so you are expected to bring a side dish. If you plan ahead, this is doable from a kayak.
Another great experience is paddling to the next bay and visiting Bill Proctor's museum. The artifacts are good but the most interesting part is Bill himself. Plan to spend 2 hours if you want to learn from Bill. It was a highlight during our week of paddling.

Cruisers love the Broughtons. There are 30 or 40 islands large enough to have an anchorage, and two hundred or more coves and bays on the mainland. 300 or more anchorages, so even if there are 300 boats in the area at one time, you’ll always have a good anchorage. Lots of things to see, places to go ashore and explore including Interesting Indian villages. BUT a lot of the channels are pretty narrow, and sailing would be dicey or impossible. And you have to get through some tricky channels and rapids to get there and out again. We have about $10,000 worth of electronics on the boat, so figuring out the timing wasn’t too bad, but without that it would be tough – there’s no rhyme or reason to what happens when, and you have to use information from other tide and current stations and add and subtract allowances.
I can also understand why people don’t go any further than Desolation Sound. The warmest water north of Santa Barbara can be found there, and great sailing – some nice open pieces of water, where there are good winds. It’s two days closer than the Broughtons (one day going, one coming back), and if your time is at all limited it would be a tough decision. And if you were in the Broughtons and wanted to get back on a certain day, and the wind was honking, and the tides were bad, you might have to lay over for a day on two, which might make life difficult.
BUT Desolation has far fewer anchorages, and you’re likely to find lots of boats in any given bay or cove, so if you get in after, say, 6 PM you might not find a place to anchor, although you can almost always find a place to stern tie, in which case you don’t need much room.

Wonderful, amazing, most marine wildlife we have seen in North America. A lot less people then other parts of marine BC which made us Beverly happy-- very remote location with rapidly changing weather--
