This is one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever been to. It is also close to a charming downtown, and there are plenty of good hotels and BnB's. There are over 20k students, and the marching band is really worth hearing and seeing. The Forbes center has wonderful internationally relevant music and theater acts, and October is the best time to visit and see the Shenandoah Valley too.

Spend a couple of days on Campus due to a conference, everything looks nice and sleek and there is money there. The buildings are okay designed, the food court looks great, several hang out areas.
Fairly noisy due to interstate 81. Neverthless green and many walkways.
I just would not send my kid there due to the lacking student body diversity and rural exposure.

I graduated in 1969 when it was just Madison College under President G Tyler Miller--the old geezer! I hated to see my 4 years end. The school is totally outstanding. The campus is gorgeous and the current students are friendly to us seniors. We try to visit once a year. GO DUKES!!!

James Madison University is the heart and soul of Harrisonburg VA. Its campus is sprawling, neat, orderly and clean. Everything is well marked. It is considered an excellent institution of higher learning and well worth putting on any college tour of Virginia colleges and universities.

This campus is huge and "interesting," as it is on both sides of I-81. I'm not sure how students get around, except for walking large distances.

Stopped by campus while geocaching. Found and logged an impressive geocache in the Rose Library. Also stopped by the bookstore to pick up a t-shirt. Explored campus a bit more and thought it was really nice. I also saw a small, autonomous vehicle delivering food on campus! Cool place.

We first visited JMU in 1980 . . . when we were looking at colleges throughout Virginia.
Our second child is now a student at JMU - and is SO happy.

Campus is absolutely beautiful and so close to great restaurants and things to do in the Shenandoah Valley. Great higher educational institution offers many opportunities.

Excellent area with fun atmosphere, JMU is a diamond in the rough, bigger school than you think, 22,000 students. The sports programs here are amazing with national championships happening every year, football, lacrosse, volleyball, softball, soccer, and basketball have been thriving.

Founded in 1908, james Madison University has a fantastic location just south of downtown, now stretching from west of Main St (US 11) to east of I-81, after experiencing tremendous growth over the last 35 years. The rolling campus views and the historic Bluestone buildings give the school a classic feel. It is a great walking campus, and has a botanical preserve, as well as the 25,000 seat Bridgeforth Stadium. My oldest son was recruited for football here,and my youngest declined when Title 9 caused his sport to be dropped, but I still have fond memories of watching football at Bridgeforth Stadium as well as travelling thru Harrisonburg to my grandparents as a kid, when it was then known as Madison College.
