L'endroit idéal pour flâner, prendre un verre ou se restaurer. Cette ville reste un peu hors du temps et c'est toujours un plaisir d'y retourner.

Op een mooie zonnig dag is het hier een chaos. Rondjes en rondjes rijden voor een betaalde parkeerplek van 7,-. Veel (school)groepen. Lekker even een wandeling doen door het stadje en dan mooi rustig in een volgend plaatsje gaan lunchen.

Toffe kleine stad aan de Ourthe.

Magnifique ville, chaleureuse que ce soit au printemps ou en hiver. Coup de cœur assuré, en couplé ou en famille ou amis. Se balader y est un vrai plaisir.

La vieille ville à indéniablement un charme certain. Par contre, elle était d'une tristesse sans pareil quand nous l'avons visitée début février. La très grosse majorité des établissements étaient fermés et les badauds étaient plutôt rares.
Par contre, les parkings publics, quasiment vides, étaient toujours payants !

In de wintermaanden waren er niet veel horeca zaken open. Het gaf een beetje een desolaat gevoel. Misschien door de overstromingen van juni 2021.

The village of Durbuy is small but very authentic and 100% charm. It is literarily like stepping out of a time machine that took you a few hundred years back. Except there is nice restaurants and some cute shops.
Crowded even on a cold day in January but well wort a few hours of your time. Take the time to eat at one of the plenty of restaurants available. If you take the little train (or walk I guess) up the hill you get a superb birds eye view of the village.

It took almsot three hours to get here. Through the pouring rain. Along winding roads. And three hours back.
But it was definitely worth the drive. This medieval village here in this beautiful valley has it all. A compact town center, a great location by the river. Good food. And of course a castle: the chateau de Durbuy.
There is plenty of parking. A big space just across the river and a bigger lot (with shuttle service) a bit outside. But during Covid-19 it wasn't a problem to find a spot.
The small town center is easy to walk, maybe a bit slippery if it's rainy. Lots of historic buildings, wonderful architecture. The chateau isn't that huge, but looks amazing, sitting there right by the river.
Besides the nice streets and lanes it's also worth to walk along the river.
There are lots of shops. Souvenirs, arts & crafts. But nothing that amazed us. But the food on the other hand was pretty amazing. The best food during our stay in Belgium we've had here in Durbuy. At the "Le fou du Roy", just in the town center.
Even though a bit rainy, we enjoyed the village very much. A fantastic daytrip. And even maybe because of the rain and light fog it looked even more magical.
Really a highlight on that years Road Trip. Loved it.

De kerstmarkt is schandalig duur. 3 Euro per persoon voor een minikerstmarktje. Helemaal van de pot gerukt werd het toen we de volgende dag (met ons inkombandje) OPNIEUW 3 euro moesten betalen want de bandjes worden elke dag veranderd. SCHANDALIG! Ze schieten in hun eigen voet want zo geen braadworst gegeten, niets gedronken.
