‪Newport we’re having a history day of it’s town and the Minster did not disappoint. Very interesting history and volunteers on hand to help and tell you bits. Dogs very welcome and were allowed around all the church. The windows are stunning. Will visit again.‬

‪What a truly amazing venue and church.
We watched the Medina Community Choir, who were amazing, and a breath-taking performance on the night.
The church is going through lots of refurbishment but once completed should look fantastic.
Please do look up future events and concerts.
Especially take time to look up the Medina Community Choir , they sing at many churches and theatres on the Island , the are simply a dream to watch and listen to , young and old will enjoy .‬

‪Beautiful church. lots of information boards dotted around. Incredible history of some of the people buried there, to note, a pirate and a princess. Amazingly old chests that held the church documents from hundreds of years ago. The stuff of dreams for kids. There is a lovely cafe run there in the mornings, Monday to Friday from 10h00-12h30. Best coffee in Newport and a fraction of the price. Lovely cakes, some home made, some shop purchased, all delicious. You can select which coffee you want in your cafetière - the Italian was lovely. They had earl grey tea also. All were fair trade.‬

‪I went for a long walk and stumbled across this church. I went mid-afternoon on a weekday whilst on holiday. The doors were open and no one was inside.
It was lovely to explore the architecture and sculptures within the church. It is a beautiful spot for quiet contemplation and reflection- even if you aren't necessarily religious.‬

‪We went for the main Sunday service.

Everyone was so friendly and made us feel very welcome, both rector and congregation. The service was good with a high quality of music and preaching. It's of a very central tradition, with hymns and the organ being the source of sung worship. The sermon was about ten minutes' duration and was good.

We would be happy to return.‬

‪We visited the Minster Church of St Thomas in Newport whilst on an organised coach trip to the town. We had been given several hours to explore the town and visited the church as part of our self-guided tour. The church sits in its own square and is quite photogenic and on the day of our visit (Saturday in March), there was a community event happening here with children and adults singing.
The church is quite large inside with a central nave and two aisles separated by tall stone columns and the wooden pews have little doors on them presumably to stop the draughts when in use. There are a number of memorials in the church and perhaps chief among them is that to Princess Elizabeth, second daughter of King Charles 1, who died at Carisbrooke castle and was buried in the church.
Also of note is a scale model of the church constructed by one of its vicars who specifically surveyed and measured the building for this very purpose. A small donation of coins, allows the model to ring its bells and is quite pleasing. Over the altar area, is an impressive blue and gold painted wooden roof which gives the impression of looking up to the heavens. At the opposite end of the aisle is a fine pipe organ elevated over the west door.
There was plenty of visitor information available as you pass around the church including a history of the church itself and also a translation of the stained glass window over the altar. On the day of our visit, a volunteer gave us a short description of the church including the story behind the memorial to Princess Elizabeth and his passion for the building and its history shone through.
It is our custom when visiting religious houses to light a candle in exchange for a donation and this facility was available on the day of our visit.
In common with most churches we visit, there was a collection box for spare change, however they also had a machine where the visitor could make a ‘contactless’ donation to an amount of their choice and we thought this to be a much simpler solution than searching for small change. Alternatively as another fund raising idea, the church has set up a small café facility and guests are welcomed here and indeed on the day of our visit, several young families were using this area.
If you are in Newport as a visitor to the town then the church here is most certainly worth a visit.‬

‪Regular drinker of coffee here in the Minster, whittled coffee choice to two varieties, the Kenyan and Italian , but the other six aren’t bad either!
Friendly , relaxing spacious and safe. And good value too!‬

‪Whilst walking around Newport we came upon this church and also spotted their board stating they have a cafe so went in.

We were warmly welcomed and given a leaflet about the church and its interesting history. Closely connected to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert the church is worth visiting.

The cafe is in one corner and is run by volunteers. Prices are incredibly reasonable and they offer an amazing selection of coffee which is served in a proper cafetière. Home made cakes and biscuits also on offer and again reasonably priced.

We enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend and return.‬

What a lovely Church, & what a great way to get people in. Coffee on a Saturday Morning. There is a Working Scale Model of the Church, the Records Chest, Princess Elizabeth Memorial, some Beautiful Stained Glass Windows & other things to see. This Church is Really worth a Visit.‬
