‪Visited here for the first time just to walk around the grounds. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that you can walk round the inside of the house completely free of any admission charges which is quite rare these days. Definitely recommend as a good place to visit.‬

‪We had grandchildren staying so thought the lambing weekend would be a lovely experience for them. It was £6 adult £4 child over 3 so it cost £20 for really I don’t know what!! Yes there were animals. Some cows with calves. A couple of ponies and sheep with lambs. All very cute but no option to bottle feed or even touch them. Nothing you can’t see in fields. The highlight was visiting birds of prey. Lovely to see but not worth £20. I wouldn’t recommend this event‬

‪Very much enjoyed our wintery day out at Forty Hall. The house was tastefully decorated for Christmas. It is popular so best to pre-book to avoid waiting for a slot. Once you are in, it is not at all busy and very pleasant experience. It takes about an hour to look around the house. There is a very modest charge - £2 per person.
There is a small gift shop with mainly local produce - especially liked the cards which showed the estate in snow. The house is well maintained with clear and engaging interpretation from Lottery investment. There is also a farm shop which sells food produced on the estate. Very affordable vegetables, and nice fresh herbs. And some vegetables bought in from southern England.

There are many options to explore the grounds - a walled garden and pleasure gardens around the house. Here are many fine and unusual trees, which in winter have interesting bark, as well as some winter flowers and berries. The lake in front of the house has a good range of waterbirds including shovler, tufted ducks and Egyptian geese. The parkland beyond slopes down to Turkey Brook. This is about a mile and a half route, it can be extended a bit by taking the nature trail - turn immediately left into the woodland when you enter the parkland near the farm entrance. You pass through quieter trails in hornbeam and oak woodland. The paths around the house are surfaced and well maintained, but in some parts of the woodland it is a little muddy after wet weather - walking shoes are useful here.

In winter Forty Hall can make a full day out... or it could be combined with the adjacent Whitewebbs park, or Myddleton House, Capel Manor or Cedars Park

The only disappointment is the cafe. I really wanted to like the cafe and support local businesses, but this is a big but..... We arrived at 12.40 to find they had already run out of soup. They could only offer toasted sandwiches - ham, cheese, cheese or cheese. We were also not very happy about the owners two large dogs just inside the cafe. Forty hall is very popular and should be able to support a cafe.

‪A farm estate, more worth visiting for the woodland / field walks than actual tended gardens (there are no farm animals to see). Woodland walk is very pleasant, with brooks weaving in and out of the canopy (had heard they reintroduced beavers here recently, though saw no sign of them on our trip!)

There's also a small gift shop, and access to see some rooms of the house and its history. Apparently also a farmer's market there on one or two days of the week (check). Very poor cafe - avoid. Bring your own food and drink if you're doing a day trip.

Good to visit combined with Myddelton House gardens very close by. Probably not worth a day trip for just one. Both venues have free entry and are walkable from Turkey Street overground station.‬

‪We were a coach party of around 50 ladies and were all looking forward to a nice lunch. Oh dear how disappointed we were! There were 2 young girls doing everything in the cafe. Taking orders making the drinks and sandwiches. There were only sandwiches or toasted sandwiches anyway and some sad looking cakes. It must have taken them an hour and a half to serve us all. They were very harassed and told us they were not expecting a coach party even though our organiser had pre arranged it. There were not enough tables or even chairs for us and we had to stand up,,when we asked for extra chairs we were told there weren’t anymore! Customer service was non existent and we felt very unwelcome. The toilets were appalling! Disgusting! The house itself was empty dreary and dirty. The whole place was very tired. The grounds were lovely the only good thing about the place. ‬

‪The grounds are beautiful as always! I used to come here a lot as a child and I have fond memories of the place. I came back for a visit today with a friend and our babies. We had a lovely walk around however certain facilities are really not to a very good standard. Baby change is locked so there was nowhere to change our babies, which I thought was awful as is meant to be a family friendly place. Second of all was the cafe, it was a really hot day and around 11:30 in the morning, we wanted to order an iced latte to be told they had run out of ice! Really? I then ordered a fruit ‘smoothie’ this was not a smoothie, it was frozen berries put in a blender until it was fruit water with a few frozen berries still at the bottom of the cup, and I had the pleasure of paying £4.50 for it! Totally disgusting. Will definitely NOT be returning to the cafe, may visit the grounds another time of the baby change is available for use.‬

‪This is a gem of open space with a lovely small country house tucked away from Enfield town .
Offers a reasonable sized car park ( free)
Well tended gardens , a small ornamental lake and a vast area of woodland to walk and explore .
The country house entry is again free
There are public toilets on site and a small cafe set to the side of the country house in a enclosed courtyard area offering tea and coffee and soft drinks .
Having stopped on a couple of occasions for a drink with family I would summarise as follows
The ladies at the hatch are very friendly and helpful but under a lot of pressure ( I witnessed on my last visit the server dealing with a Q of customers for drinks , trying to accept a food delivery and deal with two orders for food
I’ve not been inside the cafe , having always sat outside , but it looks ok and is dog friendly .
Much more could be made of the outside seating
It’s sparse and very basic , tea was drinkable , coffee less so .
Drinking water is provided for dogs
I witnessed two people tucking into baked potatoes with a tuna topping - looked a good size portion
Hot drinks are £4.50 a cup so not cheap
It currently does what it says on the tin ( provides a drink , a place to sit and toilet facilities if required .
Huge potential in my opinion to expand and offer
a better experience , as such beautiful surroundings . I believed it is owned and managed by the local council so maybe profit is not their focus .
It still remains a beautiful unspoilt setting for people to enjoy at no cost‬

‪We went today for the lambing “event”. It was so expensive and almost nothing different to the free (!) farmers market they usually have. You could of course see lambs, but there were no guides explaining anything or bottle feeding which we expected given we paid for this especially & have had. Other places. To make it worse they had 2 small rides for young kids but they were £2.50 per kid per ride 😱 I would have been fine with all of this but it cost us £15 + £4 for overflow parking and we lasted about 13 mins, once our kids saw the animals they wanted to leave cos it was busy & nothing they hadn’t done before.

It’s left such a bad taste in our mouths, we won’t do another special event and would encourage others to avoid these paid-for events and wait for the farmers market which is just as good and free.‬
