We went today for the lambing “event”. It was so expensive and almost nothing different to the free (!) farmers market they usually have. You could of course see lambs, but there were no guides explaining anything or bottle feeding which we expected given we paid for this especially & have had. Other places. To make it worse they had 2 small rides for young kids but they were £2.50 per kid per ride 😱 I would have been fine with all of this but it cost us £15 + £4 for overflow parking and we lasted about 13 mins, once our kids saw the animals they wanted to leave cos it was busy & nothing they hadn’t done before.
It’s left such a bad taste in our mouths, we won’t do another special event and would encourage others to avoid these paid-for events and wait for the farmers market which is just as good and free.

Beautiful grounds and venue, but let down by poor customer service and management. The whole event was looked after by 3 18-year-olds who had no idea what was going on. Nothing ran smoothly. What made it worse was emailing management to inform them of how we felt and no reply!! Would never hold an event here again.

Forty Hall is a large public park in Enfield. Adjacent to the house are a lake, walled garden and pleasure grounds. These are set in parkland with a stream, avenues of trees, ponds and a series of further lakes.
In February there is plenty to see in the gardens and estate grounds. The pleasure grounds near the house have many wonderful mature trees. There are clumps of snowdrops, some daffodils, crocus and flowering shrubs including witchazel. At the pedestrian entrance are sloes/blackthorn blossom. The walled garden also has much of interest including more snowdrops, crocus and daffodils. Along the northern side, which backs onto the stables is a border with many flowering heathers. In the other borders are many hellebores. There is also interest is the bark on birches and cherries.
The woodland and estate parkland are also pleasant to explore in early spring, with the paths well maintained and not muddy underfoot. If you follow the orange, heritage trail - the section to the north of the lakes (point J on the map) has drifts of naturalised snowdrops in the woodland.
You can easily spend half a day exploring the gardens, parkland and woodland trails at Forty Hall, with some longer routes that take in the adjacent Whitewebbs park. Or visiting Forty Hall can be combined with one of the other gardens nearby - Myddleton House - which looks wonderful in February, Capel Manor or Cedars Park.
On the practical side there are toilet facilities adjacent to the lake and more inside the house. Parking is free, but it can by tricky to find a spot in good weather at the weekend or when there is an event on. There is a farm shop selling some local and at this time of year more bought in produce. The house this time of year is open weekends and is an excellent history museum.

We just experienced the Halloween escape room at Forty Hall today. Was a nice experience, however we felt the level of assistance offered was a bit too much which took away our children’s opportunity to work things out and problem solve themselves. Which is largely the fun of an escape room. We paid £50 and it took only 25 minutes. The decorations and ambience there however was lovely.
Afterwards we thought we’d buy the kids a hot chocolate at the on-site cafe. However at a charge of £4.80 each we felt this was a total rip off! I don’t know how they can justify that kind of price.

Really nice. It is a really nice estate with gardens. We have been hear a lot. They have events on throughout the year. The place is tidy and clean, they have a farm shop and some animals you can visit. They have a toilet block as well. One the sunny days there is normally an ice cream van in the car park. The only let down is the café, it is very expensive. But you can bring your own food or picnic.

The hall and gardens are very nice. Accessible for the most part. The cafe however is expensive for what it is. £2.50 for a can of lemonade

What a dreadful cafe. Awful coffee and appalling attitude from the staff. Amongst the Hackney Gelato adverts to entice you to stop, there is a line saying they do not give free cups of water. Really? When queried, I was abruptly told that they do not give water even when an order for something else is made. They do not deserve anyone’s custom which is such a shame as the setting in delightful. But in an age of encouraging healthy eating and drinking, especially for children, plus when the weather is hot, to not give water is both dangerous and poor business.

Love this park. Going there often for a walk (by myself and with my friends and family). t is a nice place for run, walk or just to relax on the grass.

Forty Hall Estate is a grade 1 listed historic house, which is surrounded by a large woodland and a walled garden. It's also on the site of the lost palace of Elsyng (known for Stuart and Tudor visits).
The estate is free to enter and you could easily lose track of time wandering around the woodland area and the walled garden. The house itself is impressive to look and has some information about the rooms and who lived in the house.
Home to a Cedar of Lebanon, which is about 350 years old, the gardens are also well worth a look. There's plenty of space to hike around, including nature trails.
There is a gift shop and a cafe there, with plenty of space for a picnic.

When does the Carpark for Forty Hall open and does it actually close (eg are there barriers/gates to close it a set time in the day?)

The car park closes at 5 pm and there is a huge estate gate that shuts. I guess the park opens at 8 pm in the winter definitely by 8:30 as I regularly walk there at 9am.
