A good place for a mornings stroll. Close to the High Street with shops and bars and restaurants. Nice to sit and have a coffee or something stronger at the marina.
Easy access, lots of parking and flat to walk about.

Portishead, the home of dog walkers, joggers, BMW drivers and Northface jackets. It all looks lovely on the surface but dig a little deeper and you'll find remnants of dog mess all over as you walk in never ending circles where the only alternative activity is drinking and eating. Perfect for the narrow of mind and limited imagination or perhaps with no appetite for life but full of desire to escape reality with illusions of grandeur. The nouveau riche dominates this tiny over populated space so with this in mind it makes me wonder what aspired the need to be a part of a system that destroys life if only to land up in this pleasant superficial non place of interest. Portishead epitomises all that's missing in this country; uniqueness. With an Orwellian feel about the place and almost robotic civility asking how one is but not really wanting to know the answer particularly if one dares to be unhappy or angry in a town where only gratitude and joy is permitted, hidden beneath a back stabbing front why bother? There's a sense of being swallowed up, trapped in a repetitive run of some unfortunate soap opera where all the characters resemble one another, no redeeming features standing out other than in how foolish anyone has been whilst drunk the night before. Seriously, if you have the money spend it on a visit to a place with culture, or even if you don't have money, just 20 minutes drive there's a city full of diversity and colour, not something you will find in this sink hole. But the boats are nice to look at if you'd rather not have colour other than blue and white with a dash of red. Black and white, tit for tat, Portishead lacks everything an imagination needs to thrive. Only out of total boredom could one flourish in a kind of maddening way, more like a cry for help really. Whatever you do, don't decide to move here, just spend the day and get out while you can.

This was our first visit to the marina. We really enjoyed walking around admiring all the boats. We found a good place for lunch there being plenty of choices.

Boring place,nothing to do, no shops(only coop,Costa,Mokoko and stinky ,smelly old oil restaurant) Very windy every time,not pleasant at all,I don't know why people want to live there??? don't visit, wasting time!!!

There's a sign in the high street that reads "SEA FRONT" lol... it guides you to the bank of the Severn estuary, not a sea front... absolutely ludicrous claim. The roads in this town are atrocious as is the shopping. Get a grip Portishead, don't claim to be something you're not.... this is NOT a seaside resort by any stretch of the imagination.

I live in Portishead so for me this is local, but anyone visiting the area should come and walk round. Good places to eat and a vibrant place to see.

Went here on Friday morning with friends, few restaurants with the usual branded names, on a clear day you can see Cardiff and the 7 bridge.

We came here for the first time in five or six years and, goodness, what a shock! The place is crammed with high-rise buildings! Not so keen on the new-style architecture with its "boxy" clean lines and not much charm or character. The marina itself was jammed with boats and yachts of all kinds. Then we walked along to the shore and sat in the sun, and what a beautiful sight that was. You could see right over to the two Severn bridges in one direction. Yes, we liked that. Also admired the painted rock garden.

Hi Andrew, your review re your group walk around Portishead sounds just what I am looking for, We have two couples coming to stay next weekend plus a couple of dogs so a nice flat , interesting walk is just what the doctor ordered. We are all pensioners so not looking to scale Kilimanjaro. You directions/ route sound great but no mention re the best place to park? Any help most appreciated.

Hi There yes the centre of Portishead and the Marina are all on the level and there are many opportunities to park and Lidles is probably towards the centre of all these facilities.

Don't know how deep the water is but quite large yachts and motorboats moor there so it must be pretty deep, with plenty of keel room. Access out to sea is by a huge sea-lock when the tide is high enough . Unless you have one of Sir Philip Green's cast-offs, it is no problem for the vast majority of private boats. If in doubt at all I would suggest contacting the marina's port office.
