Bedfords is a real gem. The parkland is lovely and the views stunning. I visited when I was a child and now bring my own children who enjoy the magic of feeding the deer in particular. Having the visitor centre and the adventure playground at the top now make it an even better place to come with kids than when I was small. My main reason for coming on here though is to point out that if you come on a Tuesday or Thursday, do try to check out the beautiful walled garden. It’s a fascinating place - a great chance to learn about the history of the estate and see veggies and fruit growing, a beautiful garden to enjoy and really unique in the area. We had a warm welcome from the volunteers and were so inspired by all the work done that transformed the place from being derelict! It looks great. Bring some cash as although entry is free there are delicious crops for sale as well sold in aid of the project and you might be tempted.

Visited Friday 29th April 2022 Bedfords Park, Havering-atte-Bower a historic parkland site of 215 acres it says in the advertising gumph but my visit was just an afternoon walk with my partner. Finding it wasn't straight forward and the turn-in is on a bend so you come across it with short notice. There is a long entrance road to the Visitor Centre which is nice and there are several smaller car parking areas on the route all of which are FREE! Once you reach the visitor centre car park there is signage/map to the various attractions on site. I came because I had read there were giant sequoia (Giant, Coastal & Dawn) redwoods. I could only find 1 but apparently, there are 40! If so you need more time to find than I had. I did have time to see the visitor centre which was closed, unfortunately (it was about 1500 on a Friday so I wouldn't expect it to be closed tbh), the wildflower meadow, bluebell wood, walled garden (closed as well but only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 1000 and 1600 according to the signage) and the Red Deer. They are apparently our largest native mammal. Don't feed the deer! Worth a revisit.

Massive open space great for a stroll round with the kids. Has some animals to look at and a decent cafe which is reasonably priced.

Great for dog walking, its nice and quiet and if you take a couple of bags of carrots with you, you can feed the deer whilst you are there.

On the edge of the London Borough of Havering, this is the start of the greenbelt around London. It is huge! Probably named after John Bedford(e) who owned it in 1362, it obviously has a long history. The mansion house, built in 1771 and extended in the 1800s, was only demolished in 1958 - a great shame as the east side of London lacks such historical buildings. Only the steps remain - just near the Visitor Centre, built on the site in 2003. There is a good adventure playground near the car park.
As the park covers the slope of a hill, there are good views towards London and across the Thames into Kent. But the park is most famous for its red deer - always a winner with the children!

The tracks and trails through the park and forest are very wet and muddy. If you are walking, boots are a must but for me, the best fun is riding a mountain bike in the mud and goo especially when there are hills involved too.
The lake was almost overflowing but you could still find a way through on the gravel paths.

Great place to spend a few hours. Nice country park and a great place to take the dog for a run. On a sunny Sunday morning it attracts a fair number of visitors with plenty of parking which is FREE!!! as opposed to the country parks just down the road under the management of Brentwood council. They are also very nice but be prepared to leave some part of your body to medical science to pay the parking cost. One downside to Bedfords is the cafe. Nice little place but run on a strictly amateur basis which is not so bad if you missed your breakfast and fancy a bacon sandwich. Not saying it takes a long time to get it served up but if you are a male you will probably need a second shave when you get home. That’s such a shame as these kind of establishments if run properly can be real money spinners and a go to place if the foods is good.

This park has some excellent views out over London, has deer and some delightful woodland and grassland. Of course it can get pretty muddy, so walking shoes/boots are recommended if it's been raining. Not necessarily good for running as it can get slippery, but head out and down the hill into Havering-Atte-Bower and there is some good pavement running to be had, plus it's a pretty village. At the park, the visitor centre is very good with a cafe, gift shop and maps.

We regularly visit this park as it has beautiful walks. The new play area is fantastic and, whilst it has become a lot busier since it’s installation, the car park is still free which is great. The visitors centre is spacious and has good quality and always clean toilets. Don’t forget the carrots for the deer, and you will have a great day!
