We visited on a cold and windy day, so since we were the only visitors at the time we were given a private tour by the Director of the museum. She gave us a fascinating background tour of the museum. The VB Surf & Rescue Museum is a local jewel that is a must-do on your visit to Virginia Beach.

This museum is such an important part of the local history, it's imperative it is preserved. Sandwiched between large hotels, it's easy to pass up, but well worth the visit. Hours may be limited, so check that before visiting. A few blocks down is an outdoor monument display to Naval Aviation, including the US Coast Guard and Marines. If you're anywhere near the beach, be sure and check this place out.

Very interesting place. Just a small building for you to explore and look at the different things from the Navy. Kids would love it here.

This was a small museum packed with excellent history of great interest showing the resilience of the people who have settled on this coast. They are true hero’s who have conquered this beautiful yet dangerous coastline.

We visited this on our walking tour of the art at different blocks along the boardwalk. This was an interesting building with a number of good pieces outside. It was nice to see how things were back in the days before EVERYTHING was covered by sky scraper hotels.

The original was exceptionally historic, the first of its type. The current one is over 100 years old, and a good example. Still located within 200 yards of its original location. But since it was closed without notice, I can't comment on the insides. The outside displays are interestsing, but very limited.

As far as I can tell, this is a pretty good example of a lifeguard station. It is the replacement for the first one every built, and was only moved 200 yards down the beach. But not really a destination at its best.

Wandered into the museum before a day on the beach and it did not disappoint. The exhibits were easy to understand yet very informative. Highly recommend if you’re interested in shipwrecks, rescue efforts, or even the evolving culture of Virginia Beach. Admission was donation based and the museum allowed our leashed dog in. Definitely check it out!

If you want to see how Va Beach used to be, or get out of the sun and cool down, this is the place to go. It only cost a dollar. Two story former life guard station with plenty of pictures for 100 years ago, there is some real items that they used to save lives. If you are interested in local history, this is a good place to check it out. Plus they have a clean bathroom.

Had never been here despite all of our visits and my love of emergency services. $1 admission? By far one of the best deals in the city. As much research as I've done on Virginia Beach, I learned more today. Nice quick stop to learn some history.
