‪What a beautiful hike!! Be prepared - it WILL be muddy and you WILL get dirty!! The hike is pretty easy - not too much elevation change - but it's a good 2+ miles so bring plenty of water. There are some very steep stairs at the end of the hike that lead down to the beach and going up will be strenuous for some. The beach itself is gorgeous!! Beautiful views and tons of tide pools to explore during lower tides. Lots of people camp and spend the night on this beach and it's also a great place for a nice picnic. Definitely worth the effort to get there!!‬

‪I'm grateful that the Makah Tri e makes this accessable to those of us who appreciate the beauty of the area. The trail was fine with boots and wasn't a problem. Those who complain about the parking passes should maybe pay attention to how things work and not forget that they are guests.

"You’ll reach the town of Neah Bay first (remember to pick up your recreation pass here!) and continue on to the trailhead. If you’re just heading to Shi Shi as a day hike, you can park at the small gravel lot by the trailhead. However, if you’re camping at Shi Shi Beach overnight, you’ll need to park in a private lot (essentially someone’s yard), approximately 0.6 miles from the trailhead.

Parking lot for camping at Shi Shi Beach
To park here, it costs $10 per day (in cash), regardless of when you arrive and leave- so if you arrive on Saturday and leave Sunday, it will cost you $20 or if you arrive on Monday and leave Sunday, it will cost you $70. While this seems a bit steep, per a sign at the lot, the money goes to support the elders of the Makah Tribe."‬

‪DO NOT attempt this hike wearing tennis shoes or anything else that aren’t hiking boots.
The trail is nice and has a long boardwalk at first - but then it gets muddy. Very muddy. Saw a person try to jump over the mud- but landed in more mud just to slip and hit their leg on a log of wood- not fun when you’re on a vaca…
I got charged $20 to park and others only $10… they don’t display prices and it seems like they charge randomly. For the price they charge and the amount of visitors they get, you’d think they could do something about the trail to make it safe.
After the mud- you have a very steep decline (incline when you come back) that is (thankfully) boarded with a handrail- much appreciated when going up/down with your camping gear.
Make sure you check the tide charts- it’s totally worth seeing the tide pools!

When your on your way there- follow the paved road- not the least traveled one (aka: don’t listen to google)
Be safe and enjoy‬

‪Both the trail and the beach are glorious! There were places in the trail that were muddy but you could pass around. That last descent to get to the beach was steep (about 6 floors) though most parts have a railing to hold onto.
The trek to the beach was worth it! The water is a greenish tone and very clear. The waves are treacherous and beautiful.
It is a great beach for walking with plenty of driftwood logs to sit for a bit.‬

‪The trailhead was a little hard to find, but we loved the one hour hike to this beach. There is very little elevation change, so the hike is not challenging, but I would not call it easy. It takes at least 45-60 minutes to get to the beach. The were several muddy parts of the trail, so expect your shoes to get dirty. If I only had time for one beach, I would select an easier one to get to, but this was a fun one to check out.‬

‪It is really muddy trail. In many places you cannot walk on a trail and you must go to a impenetrable forest. It was challenging at times and I definitely recommend to use a trekking poles. On the end of trail there are new stairs to the beach so it was easy to go down and up.Nice views to rock formations from the beach.‬

‪Not one of my favorite beaches. It felt ill maintained and kind of unkempt. It has potential but needs some work.‬

‪We have hiked hundreds of trails across the country in all kinds of geography and climate and I have never walked on a more poorly maintained trail ever. Even describing it as poorly maintained is generous because after walking the better part of two miles in mud, or skirting the mud through the woods, I stepped into a mud pit and went up to my thigh (and I am six feet tall) and was initially afraid that I might be in quicksand, then calmed and wondered if I would look my shoes and pants, and then realized we were too far away from any help (with no cell service) for anyone to assist. Made it out, partially because I work out regularly and could rely on that physical training, and had to ride back in our car caked with mud ... pants, shoes, wallet, phone. Now, to add insult to injury, you have to pay to even have the privilege to wallow in the mud because the trail in on Native American land, even though ostensibly national park, so your national park pass is useless. Furthermore, the road to the trail parking is not marked for all the turns, so you have to guess correctly or backtrack and stop somewhere and ask. When we arrived there was a note posted on the board from a disgruntled hiker warning about lots of mud, but I took it as sour grapes and thought that no national park facility could be so terrible. It can, and it is! Here's the solution: both Rialto Beach and Ruby Beach are more pretty (yes, I did make it to the beach) and very easily accessible. There is no reason whatsoever to go to this beach. Forget it -- and pass the word.‬

‪Trail head was easy to find, not too far from Neah Bay, but along drive if you are coming from Port Angeles. Fairly flat beautiful hike through the forests, though the second half, once you turn south, was really pretty muddy. It had rained the day before, and the locals did advise waiting a day or two, but we could not. As you enter the National Park, there is a moderately steep decent to the beach, but there are steps on the steep parts to make it easier. The Makeshift outhouse mentioned in other reviews has been nicely updated and cleaned up. We did NOT see all the garbage others have mentioned, maybe there has been a major clean-up? The beach is beautiful - so may amazing rock formations. The day we were there the clouds were drifting in and out, and we got some amazing photos.
So glad we went, would absolutely do it again.‬

‪Hubby & I wanted to check out Shi Shi Beach. The hike to the beach is an experience...bridges..wood walkways...muddy trail in areas...but fun. About 7 miles RT...the last part of the trail down to the beach was very steep & even steeper going back up.! when we were there we saw tons of crab legs on the beach...I assume they had been shed by the crabs. We found a nice log to lean against for lunch and enjoyed the beauty of the beach.‬
