On saturday September 16 2023 I was to meet my son and grandson to go thru the museum.I got to the museum and proceeded to park in front the entrance not knowing where to park because there was no signage.I was there about 2 -3 minutes before a gentleman came out to ask if he couls help me.I told him I was waiting for someone and then proceeds to tell me that parking was across the road,I then said where is the handicap parking and he pointed the same direction and that they had a bunch of motorcyclist coming in and that they would parking in the area where I was.I looked at him and I said "so motorcyclist get preferential over handicapped people" he just pointed across the road and said "thats where the handicap parking is" so proceeded to move.I go overto the parking lot and there was one handicap spot and I parked ,that spot was a good 300 feet away from the entrance so if your handicapped that's what you can expect when you get there and the 1 handicap parking spot.Once inside everything was good and had a great time with my son and grandson.

Nicely displayed, beautiful cars and interesting accompanying displays including simulator racing. Decent cafe on site, too. There was a nice display of Porsches immediately after passing through registration to celebrate the brand's anniversary.

My son and I dropped our $20 each to see the 75 Years of Porsche display. We have been to ACM several times in the last eight years and are familiar with the cars that adorn the museum (they haven't really changed).
To our dismay, there were 14 Porsches in your display, with 4 of them the same model. With the exception of a couple of monitors and posters providing information, 75 Years of Porsche was underrepresented. There were no 924s, 944s, 968s, Boxsters, Cayennes, Macans, Panameras or Taycans. The array of the 911 models over the years was absent. The history making models that Porsche produced were non-existent. I understand the absence of some of the exceptionally rare Porsches, but your display is not 75 Years of Porsche. It’s more akin to having a couple of the museum's sponsors cars on the floor. My son and I were thoroughly disappointed. You are responsible for false advertising.
What you could do is reach out to the local PNW and PCA owner groups. We could flood your museum with a true collection of Porsches that would be representative of 75 years. This may allow you to garner an appreciation from us enthusiasts.
By way of comparison, the Griot’s Garage car event this past month in Tacoma was themed Porsche. It cost us nothing to peruse the 120+ Porsches on a gorgeous morning with free coffee and donuts. Rare Porsches were on display to include almost all 75 years of Porsche.
Count me as displeased.

This place is incredible. The Porsche 75 exhibit is mouth-watering and the old “horseless carriage” cars from the 1910s and 1920s were so incredible. The care put into maintaining and restoring this collection really shows. The path was easy to follow (all right turns walking from top to bottom, then all left turns going back up) but I did feel like there was a tendency to want to see the cars on the left side on the way down, too, since they seemed to be of similar vintage and make as the cars on the right. But, at the end of the day, saw all of it and the ramps down were nice and mellow. There’s a cafe up above the ticket area with decent coffee, plus food and snacks, but you cannot bring any of it down into the display area. Everything was clean, the staff was nice, and the view of Tacoma from the top was a neat add-on. Parking was easy and free. Highly recommended. Look for Earnhardt’s race car, the Flintstone movie mobile, and the Rockefeller car. We spent right at 2 hours here.

The last time I say the LeMay collection was back in 2006, when it was located at the old boy's school. There were an overwhelming number of cars back then.
The current collection is a curated sample of some significant autos. I particularly liked the "British Invasion" exhibit and the Flintmobile!

We have been to the museum twice because my husband likes old cars. We enjoyed it and may go again this next summer. If you like OLD CARS, you will enjoy the museum !
At one point we had four 1958 Chevys - now we are down to 2 (one fully restored, and one needs a few more touch ups). What can I say but: Boy's and their toys!!!

Wish we had more time. This place is like a Tardis, massive inside and full of excellent cars and information. Really didn't expect this gem.

We flew to the area just to see the Reclaimed Rust exhibit from creator/ musician James Hetfield and it was awesome!
I'm a Metallica fan and when I heard about James making these works of art on wheels, I knew I had to see them. I didn't really want to go to LA where the exhibit was first displayed but then I saw that it had gone to WA and I knew somehow, I would get there. It ends is January, so get there soon!
We went for reclaimed rust, but we stayed all day for the rest of the museum. The building itself is amazing let alone all the amazing vehicles. I know i keep saying amazing but that is the best word!
Even the cafe has good eats. We loved the Italian sodas and all the flavor choices.
The staff are all passionate about the place and love to talk about any of the vehicles. I took loads of pictures but am not displaying them, so you have to go and see in person!!
You will want to see it if you love cars at all!

I preface this by the fact that I am not a motorhead and have only a passing interest in old car, but my god I was impressed by this museum. The collection and special exhibits were amazing. The set up give you an easy path to walk and not miss anything. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. I drove by the museum every day for the 14 weeks I worked in the Tacoma area and am so glad I decided to stop. This is a national treasure and should be included in any visit to Tacoma.

How long time should one expect to typically spend there?

There is so much to look at and so many unique cars, the time depends on how much of a petrol head you are. Just for the casual enthusiast I would allow at least 2-3 hours for the die hard at least 4-5 hours. They have a cafe on site and food is reasonably priced and okay.
Is there a charge for parking?

There is a nice cafe and eating area inside on the top floor. The elevator took us there. It overlooks part of the exhibit. Food is really good, nothing fancy, just good and fairly priced. But I am not sure if they serve any beer or such. It would be nice though.

Are wheel chairs available for guests to rent while visiting or should we bring one along for a senior who isn't able to walk long distances.

Although I have not been to the museum this summer, there have not been wheel chairs available in the past. We have brought along a transport chair for our elderly father and it has worked well in the museum. Every square foot of display is accessible for wheel chairs with long ramps between floors that are themselves areas of display. As you are caught up in viewing the beauty and power of the "art on wheels" that is the vintage or classic automobile, you won't even be cognizant that you have moved between floors. There are also elevators for quick movement between multiple floors. Come and be caught up in the memories that get triggered by your experience among the plethora of vehicles. It is a cross generational family bonding adventure.

What is the difference between this museum and the one at Marymount? Also, is the whole collection pre-1980's, or does it include 90's and 21st century vehicles?

The Marymount exhibit is mostly outdoors and and also in some buildings on the grounds of a former convent/school. It's a lot of walking on sometimes uneven or wet terrain. The museum in Tacoma is totally under one roof but with several levels. Marymount is about 15 miles from the LeMay museum.

The most you pay is $16, but there are discounts for active military and seniors, $14, any student regardless of age, $12. Memberships cover families per year for as little as $95. Also 10% off adult admission if you are AAA, or have State Farm Ins. or have Hagerty Ins.
