‪I have visited this park many times over the years.
My mother and I brought our horses to the riding trails a fair amount in the past and loved it.

I have spent the night at the camp ground with friends, it is a great place with amazing views.

My partner and I now walk here as offer. As we can, it is beautiful and so well looked after. ‬

‪This was a short 40min drive from Mangawhai. On arrival there were only 2 other cars in the car park. It was very quiet. We saw three people as we walked a loop track around 9km long. Lots of other tracks to do as well. We came her to do some geocaching as there are lots here. The tracks are all well formed. We’ll be back. ‬

‪Many choices of walks - some easy, some not so much so. Great views of the harbour.and distant hills.‬

‪If you are looking for a bit busy regional park, this is NOT the place. It is a really quiet place much less visitors but some of you probably really like this. Less people means more mingled with nature without interfere with others. Not surprise because this is the latest developed Regional Park in Auckland Region, as this previously active farm was donated to Auckland Regional Council by Jackie and Pierre Chatelanat to make sure New Zealander are still able to enjoy free access to Kaipara Harbour. Also its location at Kaipara Harbour side make this area are more remote if compared with other regional parks at east coast of Auckland region and at Waitakere Range which are easily reached by better road networks. Anyway there are camping grounds, but you need to book through Auckland Council to spend overnight, or just do relax walks in day time inside of this park, there are at least four routes, Red, Yellow, Purple and Black, at least 2.5 km each or longer keep you busy with your explorations. Along the ways you are still able to see plenty of lambs and cows grazing peacefully, and the historic woolshed. From Auckland if you traveling through Hellensville, at the last part, the road is still a gravel road along 7 km.‬

‪Courtyard house is an awesome getaway for groups/families.

The main house (2 bedroom original grand house) can accommodate up to 12. 2 x bedrooms with double bed and single bed each, one bedroom has ensuite then there is another bathroom and separate toilet near the entrance/bedrooms.

There are another 6 single beds in the Boardroom which is at the other end of the house with huge lounge, large dining area and kitchen in between. Some of these single beds could be moved to the sun room so not so many people are sleeping in the same room however this would require dragging the beds through the lounge, dining room and kitchen area which we couldn’t be bothered doing.

Across a covered driveway is the Annex which is a completely self contained one bedroom unit with 2 single beds in the bedroom and a large single internal access garage. There is also a double internal access garage and laundry connected to the main house.

Through the Annex garage and another garage there is the shearer’s quarters which is a little more basic than the rest of the property. The Shearer’s quarters has a twin room downstairs along with small kitchen and lounge/dining area and separate male and female bathrooms.
There are another 2 bedrooms upstairs in the “attic”. The website claims these are suitable for children however our group of adults had no problem with them.

We had 15 stay and could have everyone comfortably in the lounge or dining room however any more than this would have been pushing it.

There are two large dining tables in the dining area (the photo online only shows one) and there were 3 or 4 large sofas which again don’t show online.

You need to take your own linen. All cleaning supplies and toilet paper is provided (take your own soap for hand washing in the bathrooms/kitchens though).

The property isn’t super fancy however the price more than reflects this. Even not totally maxing the property out we only paid around $20 per person, per night and most rooms only had 2 people - bargain in my books!

There are walks and bicycle trails around the farm if you want to get out and be active. No great swimming area, no BBQ and not many wine glasses are in my opinion the only downsides to this property.

There were plenty of plates, cooking stuff etc. We took our own BBQ for one night and 2nd night we had 3 roast dishes and veges (utilising ovens and dishes etc from all three kitchens) and didn’t find too much missing - maybe some good knives and serving tongs but we had come prepared anyway as we weren’t sure what was here.

Spectacular views from the Main house verandah, sun room and dining room along with the peace and quiet made this a great retreat for our group.

Even with a group of 15 this place is so vast there is no problem having your own space if need be. (6 bedrooms, sun room, 3 living/dining rooms, 3 kitchens plus the boardroom and verandah made this place seem like a huge complex :-)

We intend to go back again.‬

‪Rented the Courtyard house which is the original grand manor of Atiu park. With 16 of us in the group we had more than enough space as the place is very large. The main lounge had a big gas schist fireplace - however the gas bottle must of been running low as we could only get it to work for short bursts. There were other heaters in the house though so we weren’t cold. The grounds and park were amazing and we had a wonderful time exploring and walking the trails over the weekend. A couple of things could be improved in the house: carpets in the bedrooms are badly stained and would best be removed. The shearing quarters are dark, musty and have low ceilings. The Annex is a lovely space and perfect for a small family or couple. ‬

‪Atiu Creek seems to be the quietest of Auckland council parks, the furtherest away but well worth the time it takes to get there. And with the added benefit that you may nearly have all 2000 acres to yourself. 😃‬

‪Our NZ trip brought us close to Atiu Creek, and we decided to pay this park a short visit. The park measures approximately 3x3km. Starting from, and returning to, the car park, we walked for 2+ hours through a hilly terrain with remarkable variation in scenery and some wide panoramas. Although we visited on a Saturday in December, no doubt a more busy day than an average day in the year, we did not spot any other visitors. Recommended.‬

‪There was such amazing scenery in the Atiu creek regional park and a very nice place to stay. There was a range of different trails to walk of different lengths and offered great views. The nearest town is Wellsford which was about 20 minute drive away. There is also lot of sheep around the park !‬

‪I was lucky to spend a weekend at this park for work training

The weather is really changable due to being so close to the coast and immense kaipara harbour, so take your rain coat and wooly hat just to be sure.

It's a wee way up from Auckland city but well worth the drive.

The park is laid out well with numerous viewpoints of the harbour and surrounding hills.

We stayed in the courtyard cottage, which is anything but a cottage.

The building is designed for its perfect positioning to maximise the gorgeous views.

It is a modern building with a good sized covered outdoor living areas, a full kitchen, living, dining and garaging. there is three rooms with beds and I was told it slept 14. There are beds, but you will need linen or sleeping bags.

For those who geocach, the park as 30+ caches to find, and the tracks are well laid out, for horse trekking, mountain biking and walking.

There is a campsite for those who prefer to sleep closer to nature, with flush toilets and drinkable water at the campsite.

Permits and details of of how to book accomadation are on the Auckland council website.

We walked around the park, enjoyed the native forests and located some of the geocaches, and spent the evenings sitting on the deck in the evening having a quiet drink and enjoying the view.

I will definitely be going back with the family and camp a night or two with the kids.

You can visit the park for a day visit at no charge and explore at your leisure. To gain vehicular access to the campsite or cottages you require a permit, which gives you a gate code to allow access. The codes are changed weekly to ensure compliance.

This is a great park which is quiet, isolated and not well known of, so not too busy.‬
