The Casey cabin is gross and toxic. it smelled heavily of urine like smell. They chose to cover up the smell with several Febreeze plugs ins and a wall mounted "air freshener" that sprayed nasty toxins every few minutes. We don't know how long the cabin was vacant before our off season, mid week checkin but apparently long enough to cause the toxins to build up. I had a severe reaction to the poison with vomiting, nausea, confusion, all symptoms of the chemical intoxication of the toxic chemicals. We vacated around 1 AM on first night and went to a hotel. Gratefully the staff did refund our money and mentioned those cabins will be closed at the end of October for remodeling. I hope they don't install those nasty air fresheners again. If so, might want to ask them to remove them and find another place to stay. Research toxicity of air fresheners. I only hope my severe reaction doesn't cause any long term health problems. The staff was great and understanding, the area is picturesque but the cabins are disgusting. I sure wish we had decided to tow our camper instead of trying the cabins. I come to the area often and next time, we will choose to bring our camper. We KNOW it is clean. They were desperately in need of remodeling.

Just a "shout out" for visiting during the quiet season. When other campgrounds either close or limit visitors during the cold seasons, Chestnut Ridge remains open year around. Tent camped. Nice to be a little uncomfortable when the reward was quiet and a clear night sky.-As a side note, with Covid concerns, the bathrooms were impeccably clean.

hidden GEM ! NICELY WOODED CAMPSITES, we have an RV and like to camp in the woods NOT a field. Nice facilities, live music in the summer, friendly staff. Super close to coopers rock !!! Just a gem

Great park! Has two lakes that you can fish that does not require a fishing license, catch and release. The RV campsites were clean and woodsy. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Nice gift shop and the girl there was very helpful with area information.

Camped here with a large group consisting of 11 adults and 8 children. We booked ahead and had the tent sites by the pond...beautiful! This campground has sand tent pads which are nice but if you have a big tent and a small pad, I could see how you may have issues. This wasn’t a problem with us since we had so many sites for our large group and set up our tents accordingly.
I was also impressed with how clean the bathrooms were. And the people who worked there were super friendly.

Was looking for a great campground to tent camp for a couple of days, when I came across this hidden gem. The website doesn't do it justice. I was very pleased. The tent sites are raised and include high fire-pits and a picnic table. All spots are pretty tucked away in the woods and not right on top of each other. What I was impressed most with, was the customer service and general store. The people in the store were beyond helpful and made us feel like friends. They let us know how to get to our site, what will be at our site, and when we wanted to change sites, made it super easy for us to do so. The store is pretty stocked as well. They have fire starters, s'more kits, ice,drinks, snacks and more. It was nice to just run down to the store instead of into town when we needed more fuel for the fire. There was also a blue-grass concert going on the second night we were there, that they warned us about ahead of time. I loved the campground. It was tucked away deep in the woods, there is a large pond you can swim or fish in, there was a playground and no wifi connection. I would recommend this campground to those who want to really experience tent camping in WV. The only problem I had with the campground was the drive to the site. It was extremely rough and we could barely get back to our first site (why we had to move). If we would have known ahead of time about the super rough terrain we would have brought an svu and not the car. So be warned if you are going to tent camp, you should drive something that can off-road.

This is a nice small campground near the Interstate for an overnight stop. Nice clean and convenient.

Stayed one night. Arrived after dark. Lots of deer zipping across the road leading into the campground! (Be careful) Road/campsite signs were difficult to see in the dark. As a result, we missed our turn and ended up having to turn around in a close-by camp lodge. Thankfully, there was one empty parking spot next to the building which enabled us to turn around after disconnecting my trailer. Otherwise, we would have had to back up about 1/4 mile or so down the road. Other than that, it was a good space to spend the night in the woods.

Enjoyed another concert there last evening. What a beautiful setting - sitting on the hillside, surrounded by trees and alongside the pond. You can bring a picnic (or there is a vendor each time). Makes for a wonderful summer evening of live music.

We arrived late after bad traffic on the way in due to weather and motor vehicle accidents. During my telephone booking, there was no mention that there is nobody to check you in after 7... on a FRIDAY?! Nobody mentioned that there was an "after-hours" protocol if you arrived late. So I called the Superintendent, I checked the website... came up empty with what I should do with my family now that we were here. We decided to sleep in the van in their parking lot. Finally someone calls and tells us that there is a box (in the dark) that has all our check-in information. I run through the rain to obtain this information and proceed to our campsite.
Now, these are the SMALLEST tent-sites I have ever personally stayed on. I have been to several KOAs, several campgrounds outside of VA Beach and never have I seen ones so small and so stacked on top of one another.
Fast forward to the next morning. I am anxiously awaiting the store opening at 9am. I have been in my vehicle since 845am. I see someone walking around inside, so I proceed to the door to wait until 9. On a chilly, muddy morning the guy inside decides to not open the doors until he's good and well ready... close to 9:10 despite being able to see multiple people standing outside waiting.
Several people need to do a check-in having missed the opportunity from the night before. When it becomes my turn, I ask for the Wi-Fi password. To where I am RUDELY told "it doesn't work outside this building". I explained that I was able to access it in the parking lot and that my phone attempted to connect from our tent-site. Instead of giving me the password he goes on AND ON AND ON about how the building is made out of tin, how its impossible for it to work at the campsite, etc. I finally had to REPEAT my request for the password, to which he begrudgingly gave it to me. Now my issue with the WiFi is that it is not advertised that you need to be hugging the building on their website in order to obtain WIFI access. Second, the connection does in fact work from the parking lot.
I will add that the showers were fantastic. There needs to be more conversation during the booking process because I never would have made reservations for this place if someone had told me to be here by 7.
Also, I don't think the person assigning campsites should be going around putting tags on campsites that have not checked out yet... hours before checkout time. I wont be back to this campsite.
